Is Australia all set to legalise cannabis? Watch all details here | WION Originals

Across the world, dozens of nations have changed their laws to allow people to light up. Another nation that is about to be added to the list is Australia. The Australian Greens are planning to introduce a bill aiming to legalise cannabis. The legislation, if passed, would allow for the regulation and sale of approved cannabis strains. The cannabis will be used for recreational consumption in Australia. The bill is currently out for public consultation. To get anywhere, the bill would need government support to replenish the existing law.

It should never ever have been made illegal at all. It helps with pain relief for chronic pain sufferers. You get an awesome sleep. And calms and relaxes people. It’s much safer and better than alcohol. It’s been long overdue to legalise it.

Why is it so hard to just get some kind of vote on the law? People obviously want it passed. If it passes great if it doesn’t at least we tried.

Recreational use of cannabis is already happening. But its hidden behind technicalities. Obtaining a legal prescription can be done by anyone online who answers a few questions and has a phonecall with a doctor that has zero history on the patient. Its time to end this madness. Legalize it for use by any adult who chooses. Alcohol, tobacco (and even sugar and caffine) are all far worse than cannabis will ever be!

Its a shame we don’t live in a democracy, if we did live in a democracy its the people NOT the politicians that would make the decision

  18. Arron Connell on August 25, 2023 at 10:41 pm

Just need to act as one and say to tge government us smokers and user’s are going to do it with or without your approval like we do anyways but not hide it what they gonna fine and jail morw then half our population?? Alcohol by far dose more damage then weed but it’s everywhere it’s a joke

  19. Koncept Gaming on August 25, 2023 at 10:42 pm

Best thing that could happen. Just don’t let big pharmaceutical and those grow and brew type shops stop the progress they will all vote against it and promote the negative 1 percent of why it shouldn’t be legilised like they did here in New Zealand. They brain washed the elderly with the reefer madness type stuff and drug driving ads to scare people away from yes voting. So many more positives things will come from legalising it than negative

  20. ST Carday on August 25, 2023 at 10:43 pm

It needs to be legalised. Unfortunately, the bill will not pass.

  21. pear on August 25, 2023 at 10:43 pm

  29. Sean Ranger on August 25, 2023 at 10:57 pm

They would make far more money, reducing the price for medical patients and at the same time permitting recreational use to a wider community.

  30. Chicken Noodles on August 25, 2023 at 11:01 pm

I quit marjuana due to a psychitic episode but even now i still believe legalisation is the right move

  33. Pancake Lizard on August 25, 2023 at 11:05 pm

the Legalization of Cannabis would generate more than $28 billion in 10 years This comes from GST, company tax and a 15% cannabis sales tax. With a 25% cannabis sales tax the revenue would surge to over $36 billion! This decreases billions away from organized crime, police and the criminal justice system and we can then spend it on schools, housing, hospitals and social support. It also guarantees commercial through regulated cannabis cafes just like coffee shops. This positives really do outweigh the negatives in this Law. But the federal Government are just old.

  34. marc hillyard on August 25, 2023 at 11:06 pm

Getting tired of the conversation lol. Legalise it , don’t legalise it , don’t give a shit. I’m still gonna smoke it regardless.

  35. Steve Gibbons on August 25, 2023 at 11:07 pm

Sharp presentation. Once the financial numbers sink in and politicians can understand the social benefits to community . They will give the green light. Taxes on Cannabis put back into public health will be the 1st benefit.

  36. Jeff Robinson on August 25, 2023 at 11:08 pm

    I can’t wait!

  41. Leslie Grayson on August 25, 2023 at 11:16 pm

All 3 friends of mine that smoked Pot went Mental costing the Australian Government (our taxes) $10k x 3 for a week and then one of them is costing over $200k a year as his mental status is permanently watched in mental ward situation. Australia can not handle the drug problems of ICE, Crack, fentanyl, and even vaping in school how could it possibly handle something so wide spread as chronic mental disorders like have been seen in DENVER USA… The Hospital costs alone would make Australia a worthless country, the Police bill and legal system would be overwhelmed.

Drugs have been decriminalised in Portugal since 2001, and cannabis consumption in Portugal is three times lower than in France. Prohibition will always fail!
