Legalise Cannabis: And Why It's Madness Not To

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, or so the quote ascribed to Albert Einstein goes, and that more than applies to the catastrophic failure of the ‘war on drugs’. All it’s achieved is mass criminalisation of disproportionately young Black men, more violence, people with addiction not getting the support they need, handing criminal gangs a massive source of revenue, ensuring dangerous stuff can circulate and so much more. End the madness – legalise it now.

That 1st statement is utter nonsense
But what do you expect from a racist liberal o suppose

Y3s weed needs legalizing bit the fact you brought race into it is a reflection of your own racism
    No one elses

  3. Watcher Writer on October 4, 2023 at 9:01 am

One major reason for legalising cannabis is the spice epidemic

  4. Ralph Ley on October 4, 2023 at 9:03 am

You’re right, alcohol is far more of a dangerous and addictive substance than cannabis. I’m in the process of struggling to give it up for the sake of my health but all i can think of 24-7 in my mind’s eye is an image of a chilled pint of lager. It’s horrible to resist.

Britain is so backward. Last time I checked, Moldova had faster broadband speeds.

  6. Tom Riddell on October 4, 2023 at 9:05 am

The Tory’s. A party that believes in a small government. A government so small it will arrest you and put you in prison (for 7 years) for inhaling plant smoke.

  7. Wayne Hawkes on October 4, 2023 at 9:05 am

We should drug test every one in Government that would be fun.

I have only just come across your channel and came across this from two weeks ago. I whole heartedly agree with you as I tried to explain earlier on in the year at the extinction rebellion event in April. The reason to free the weed is two fold not only would it take away the stigma and I just criminalisation of the black community but it would raise revenues for the nation and by treating it as a health rather than criminal issue help heal society.
The second and more prominent reason would be the production of Industrial hemp which could help rebuild the Nation, by making the UK one of the greenest nations on the planet. As it is 100% recyclable, renewable and has over five thousand uses. It takes C02 out of the air, it also takes C02 out of the soil as well as the metals and toxins. One hectare of Hemp sequesters between 2-3 times the C02 of a typical forest.
A crop of Hemp takes about twenty weeks to grow and leaves the soil in a better condition than when it was planted. It can be manufactured into Insulation and Cladding fuel which the emission would be water. It is easy to cultivate. Maybe you can do an episode on Hemp as it is unique and the possible saviour of all our futures.
In 1941 Henry Ford made a car out of Hemp which was lighter and Stronger than Steel. You are the future and may your message get out there to a wider audience.

I can buy tobacco and alcohol to kill myself, but I can’t cannabis to heal myself 🀨

  15. Philo Beddoe on October 4, 2023 at 9:16 am

It fuckin stinks. I was in the states a few months back. Everywhere you went stunk of weed. Horrible. Its only the weak willed that would want to use drugs anyway. Losers.

  16. sam missons on October 4, 2023 at 9:17 am

  17. steven postlethwaite on October 4, 2023 at 9:18 am

No one is asking for cocaine to be legalised. As that needs to be man made. Weed is natural get the argument straight and stop wondering off about other things.

  18. Luke & The Lazy Machine on October 4, 2023 at 9:19 am

Owen I support you or whatever but how on earth did your mouse cursor go unnoticed on your thumbnail!? Standards at your level!
P.S as someone who smoked weed every day for 15 years. And watched it slowly ruin countless lives around me- I wish the stuff didnt exist.

  19. Jack Phillips on October 4, 2023 at 9:20 am

UK Government is unlikely to pass any laws that make anyone happy, it’s against their ethos

  25. tyc on October 4, 2023 at 9:21 am

Alcohol is legal because we pay TAX on it. So why don’t they tax cannabis??
One million consumer spending is some purchasing power.

  26. Jim the Quim. on October 4, 2023 at 9:25 am

I think if Owen Jones walked onto a mental health ward, he would be banging on the doors screaming to get away from all the Cannabis smokers with Schizophrenia. Which will be around 70% of all patients.

  27. David on October 4, 2023 at 9:26 am

I have severe lower back pain for which i am prescribed MORPHINE which is a laboratory manufactured drug which is basically heroin i take on occasion when the pain is so bad Cannabis which i find helps with the pain we are so backwards in this country as Cannabis helps so many medical problems and grows naturally on our planet Cocaine does not

The UK is the world’s largest producer and exporter of ‘medical’ cannabis. GW Pharmaceuticals et al.

Our cannaboid system in our body was made to consume cannabis. Like it or not

  39. Crumpets212 on October 4, 2023 at 9:37 am

The UK is one of the biggest exporters of "legal" cannabis. We can’t compete with the lobbying that prevents legalisation.

  40. cookoo1981 on October 4, 2023 at 9:39 am

I really dont agree with a lot of your policy’s owen infact hardly anything πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ but on this one i 100% agree with you becouse a lot of my criminal record has cannabis convictions on it witch was from the age of 14 and that lead to me having to mix with ppl i really didn’t have no affiliation with and where bad ppl also i found it extremely hard to get a job becouse i was embarrassed about being a criminal just for smoking a spliff, this law needs to be changed so we can all smoke the herb 🌿 and not be punished for it

  41. FuckTheSystem on October 4, 2023 at 9:40 am

It’s funny how legalising cannabis talk was spoken hard about 6 to 5 years ago right before our lovely plandemic happened. It’s like our leaders panicked and used plandemic like here’s your new change πŸ˜‚πŸŽ‰

  42. Richard Pedley on October 4, 2023 at 9:41 am

So right i don’t understand why British ppl are always left out it help meny people everyone can get weed anyways so why not just let us be and you make a profit

  46. Daryl Skinner on October 4, 2023 at 9:47 am

    Alcohol is the biggest drug

  47. 40kWitchHouse on October 4, 2023 at 9:48 am

I can see both points, but Ali I don’t think understands the difference between legalising all drugs and decriminalising, we should still have laws pertaining to drugs, but offer better addiction services to people who are going to do these drugs either way

  48. GEAR of TONES on October 4, 2023 at 9:48 am

It’s madness to criminalise such a harmless drug. Anyone who drinks alcohol but tries to maintain that weed should be illegal is an utter hypocrite it the highest order.

  49. John Chrysostomou on October 4, 2023 at 9:50 am

Britain is still too Victorian sadly to entertain the idea πŸ™„

  50. Alex Bromilow on October 4, 2023 at 9:50 am

Love that you brought up how hypocritical these arguments become once you look at alcohol in the same way!
