Florida Seniors Lobby for Legal Marijuana

Robert Platshorn served nearly 30 years in prison on federal drug charges. Since getting out four years ago, he’s been promoting medical marijuana use to seniors in Florida. Video and reporting by WSJ’s Arian Campo-Flores in Lake Worth.

Seniors wont vote it in. There to stuck back in the old days when marijuana was looked at as reefer madness. You need the young people to change the laws. My opinion is that once this older generations die off, the younger more progressive people will make the changes needed.

I live in Orlando Florida and I think if they legalize it here we will boost the economy to the roof it will be better than Amsterdam !!

I’m a senior. I tried pot years ago back when I was in my late 20’s and I didn’t like it. It didn’t do anything for me and it smelled like cat piss. I haven’t smoked it since and don’t plan to.

However, I know that God created it and said it was good and that He gave us all plants bearing seed for our good.

How dare the government or the FDA come tell us we can’t have it! And worse, bar people that need it from having it? Of course, they are trying to make all medicinal herbs illegal or require a prescription for it.

I signed the petition to get it on the ballot and I will vote for it, even for recreational use.

I would like to grow it just for the fiber. I’ve got angora rabbits. I’m also going to check out spinning banana fiber this year hopefully.

Wow, 30 years of a humans life in a cage because he sold a few bails of hay. Absolutely disgusting. We will know that the human race is ready to move forward when this stuff is legal again.

It;s good to see seniors getting involved in this important issue. The Federal Government has kept this incredible medicine away from the people for long enough!!!

    Legalize & save lives.

  10. Ben Johnson on June 15, 2019 at 11:53 am

If it becomes "Federally Regulated" it will boost the economy because that will create inspector jobs to investigate the sales of marijuana to make sure the consumers are getting a nice safe product and an official product that they are purchasing. That will generate a ton of tax money.

  11. Zeno1999 on June 15, 2019 at 11:54 am

Robert must have access to more marijuana in the prison than outside 🙂

All plants have medicinal property. But smoking your medicine can pollute air that everyone breathes and put carcinogens in your lungs !

  12. Julio Cano on June 15, 2019 at 11:54 am

that’s all we need good intruduction to what cannabis can do. #regulate

  13. Adrian Garcia on June 15, 2019 at 11:55 am

Making someone go through chemo symptoms withholding pain relievers has got to be the cruelest thing . People who do that deserve getting cancer themselves. Cannabis helps there is no question about it.

as I get older, I am in my late 50’s I find more and more pills I do need. I can stop all the pain pills if I smoke, yes I tried it, It works. I don’t do it I am to old to go around to some dudes house and try to get it with all Florida’s laws. You have a hard sell getting older people who go to church and would never smoke a cigarette. Because smoking is bad for you but there is a difference. small amounts of eatables are a good alternative. good luck to you  Robert. lol

I really don’t think amendment 2 is going to pass, Florida is too deep south bible belt and very conservative. So, for those of you that are for amendment 2, don’t give up when it does not pass. It will be on the ballots again in future elections.More younger people need to vote, but they just don’t, so if amendment 2 don’t pass. Maybe more younger people need to get off their lazy behinds, and realize they need to vote if they want change. There’s still too many young people who just wont vote and are expecting this amendment to pass, expecting the other guy to vote it in. They are going to be in for a rude wake up call.

When you study the conspiratorial forces of cannabis prohibition one research should start with American Pharmacopoeia cannabis 1936, Kaneh Bosm and US patent on medical cannabis and it scheduling of #1 and then follow the money

its not a question of is it good or bad for you…but who OWNS your body and what you consume ????

if you dont commit a crime against another person there is NO crime.

  33. Jaime_FANG on June 15, 2019 at 12:22 pm

Just think of it this way guys, this law of prohibition was around the same time that segregation, and public lynching, and the death penalty was still in effect. they realized the other ones were wrong, whats up with marijuana? Why can’t we make minorities sit in the back or hang wrong doers from the street anymore?

Its all a scheme that revolves around money, that’ why marijuana remains illegal. Its going to be a very hard fight to get marijuana legalized in Florida because the way our legislature is set up is flawed. The people of our territory shouldn’t be dependent upon a few individuals in congress that are subject to corrupt lobbyists to get things done. Also so many people believe what they hear without researching it themselves. Everyone needs to look up the benefits of cannabis.

  38. WeAskThePeople on June 15, 2019 at 12:32 pm

take a dirty big CLUB & bash CONGRESS over the head… we don’t need those cretins.

  39. ItIsFunnyDamnIt on June 15, 2019 at 12:32 pm

Most of the older generation is very adamantly against marijuana legalization. They grew up watching Reefer Madness propaganda films and totally believe it. My mom is a perfect example. She is 77 years old and extremely against marijuana, always has been. Me and her got into an argument about amendment 2 this morning.

She was reading her church bulletin from Saint Pauls Catholic church and they are telling all their parishioners to vote NO On 2. Every church I’ve heard of so far is telling their  parishioners to vote NO On 2, saying that legalizing marijuana is what the Devil wants. An saying it will totally destroy our society and all other kinds of B.S..

Anyway I told her, that as long as churches stay heavily involved in politics and tell their parishioners who and what to vote on, they should have to pay taxes and not be tax exempt. There really is no real separation of church and state. That’s why we have dry counties and Sunday laws in others ( an I don’t even drink ) but I see no good reason why such laws should even be allowed to exist. No one is being harmed by someone who drinks on Sundays.

Those are laws that got made by the religious to dictate to everyone weather they are religious or not. It’s the churches, religious people that keep gay marriage banned saying it will somehow destroy the sanctity of their marriage more B.S., and  I’d be willing to bet most, if not all churches are going to do everything they can to prevent amendment 2 from passing. I’ve done all I could by early voting, I voted Yes On 2, but I am NOT holding my breath that it will pass.
