Why is it so difficult to get medicinal cannabis in the UK? – BBC News

Since it was legalised five years ago hardly any patients in the UK have been prescribed medical cannabis.

Used to treat a number of medical conditions, the Government has been accused of misleading the public over its availability on the NHS.

Campaigners say an exception has been made for a few patients but others are being forcing to fund it themselves, go without or turn to the black market.

The UK government says safety needs to be proven before a wider rollout.

if the NHS doesn’t get a move on i will just be growing it. same boat can’t work and trying to sell things to make enough for my prescription every month or a few seeds for £30 and i don’t need to worry about funding it.

I have to pay 250-350 per month in the uk. The price changes as I sometimes cannot afford enough at the time and have to change or do without a certain amount. its hardly affordable sometimes i have to choose it over food because of my health. I am hoping the price becomes better and more streamlined by using the nhs in the future…

Let people grow it or there will always be a black market far cheaper to go to. Ridiculous fees put it out of reach of people with real illness that prevents them from working full time to pay £300+ a month for the sub standard prescription.. so forces them to go to black market..

Phillip May, Paul Kenward, Victoria Atkins MP, all involved & directly profiting from ICI/British Sugar’s exporting of ‘medicinal cannabis’, whilst denying it to uk citizens.

I hate how people try and say it’s for medicine, there’s better stuff for all your needs out there. Just admit you like it and how it makes you feel

I can’t imagine living somewhere that it’s still illegal anymore since it became federally legal here in Canada 🇨🇦in 2018 . I grown my own now and even make my own edibles and I even live right next to a dispensary. There are a ton of dispensaries now everywhere you go .

5 years after legalisation in Canada there has been no increase in cannabis use amongst 16 – 19 year olds and no health care disaster. Stop fretting brits, leglise away!

There are thousands of people that in the same situation as Connor around the UK. Legalise it and let people have their medicine and legalise it for people just to enjoy. It’s one of the safest drugs on the planet for your own health and the health of society. I remember I used to live with a guy from London and he told me that he had grown up in a bad neighbourhood and he had known people who were real thugs making their living from battering people and robbing them but when they were introduced to cannabis they got jobs and became functional members of society. I know it’s an anecdote but it’s a good one.

£300 is really cheap I’m paying £600-850 depending on the strains available that month, I’ve ADHD/ASD and chronic pain issues with both knees I would be on at least 3 different medications that were ineffective and interact negatively with each other, or I take CBPM’s that cover all 3 conditions witch have less side effects by far for me.
