Jude Thilman on Medical Cannabis 01

Jude Thilman owner of Dragonfly Wellness Center in Fort Bragg #California and Patrick Lang of CA Labs, a medical cannabis research company, talk about the current state and future of cannabis as medicine.

Cannabis has been a part of traditional medicine for thousands of years. Yet modern science has done minimal research, especially in the US, on cannabis.

Modern pharmaceutical companies can trace their roots to chemical weapons in World War I. Pharmaceuticals are about altering the bodies chemistry to suppress symptoms to make you feel a little better, but require more pharmaceuticals to treat the side effects of the first pharmaceutical.

Cannabis, by contrast, doesn’t cause harm such as liver, kidney or stomach damage. But research is sorely lacking. That is starting to change. Research is being conducted in places such as Israel, Spain, England, and Brazil.

In both cases, the patient is responsible for the dose taken on a daily basis.

The goal is ultimately to operationalize the research and theoretical knowledge in a cultivator or cannabis medical manufacturing setting. We’re still far from bridging that gap and operationalizing the research.

Regulation will help separate the real medical operators from the recreational operators.
