Grow Homies(Growmie) Stories – GIANT scrog, Massive Canopy – Almost a pound from 1 Plant

We’re starting a new segment called growmie stories. This is an ongoing series where we tell tales about our homies that grow and our first guest goes by the username kykeholt56 on Reddit. What you see in these photos is a SINGLE plant that was stretched out to completely fill a 3 x 5.5 foot closet. This plant was never topped or FIMmed, so the canopy spread was made solely on low stress training using both twist ties and a trellis. This plant came from a clone from the
Oklahoma Clone company and the strain is cosmic serpent number 8.

The final yield was a massive 246 grams of dry weight and what’s incredible is that this was actually Kyle’s first grow. So how did Kyle do it?

Kyle did this all indoors and started with the clone in a 6 inch pot with happy frog soil https://amzn.to/3msTQZL

With a cheap blurple light and a 18 hour light cycle,
Phlizon 600W LED Plant Grow Light
https://amzn.to/3xpGFPF

The plant was fed just regular pH balanced water. Growth was off to a really slow start. Kyle wanted to Low Stress Train from the jump , (record scratch)but quickly realized the plant was too young, so he resumed LST at day 22 when the leaves looked stronger. As the plant grew, Kyle tied down the main stems using twist ties https://amzn.to/3MSGX6z

Once the plant filled the pot, he transferred it to a 5 gallon pot of Ocean Forest https://amzn.to/3O2BM4J and planted it close to the edge.
As the plant grew, he would continue to tie down the new growth so that it is parallel to the soil’s surface and aligned with the perimeter of the pot. He continued circling the new growth around the pot and fed it plain pH balanced water, relying on just the nutrients in the soil until day 53. On day 53, Kyle eased in Grow Big nutrients https://amzn.to/3FjV0iY and on day 64, the plant completely wrapped around the perimeter so he transferred it into a 7 gallon pot filled with Strawberry fields soil https://amzn.to/3xeuJ1Q He also switched the lights to a more powerful, Spectrum King SK602 https://ebay.us/O3qUvK still maintaining 18 hours of light.

During the transfer, he removed all tie downs and let the plant grow stress free for the next couple of weeks and also stopped feeding nutrients. On day 81, he installed a trellis in the closet which he bolted taught into the corners. This is where the magic happened. Now, instead of tieing down the plant, he stretched it out using the Screen of green method. At this point, commenters on reddit convinced Kyle to GO IN on scrogging and succumbing to their remarks, he said “I was able to tuck a lot more than I thought”. On Day 88, he flips to a 12 hour light cycle and on day 91 begins feeding Open Sesame Flower Nutes, https://amzn.to/3MmYvah once a week. Any new growth would be forced into the furthest square on the trellis and the stretching continued up until 4 weeks into bloom when horizontal growth ceases and vertical growth begins. For the remainder of the grow, the focus is now on buds and what you see is the buds developing. It’s still mind boggling that this was a first attempt and the yield on this single plant filled up 4 32 oz mason jars AND a gallon mason jar. Beginner’s luck?, I think not, it just goes to show that a thirst for knowledge and applying it is really all it takes for a successful harvest.

I HAVE to try this next year. I’m getting bud rot on my 5 footers and I’m certain that the sun exposure would be a huge benefit. Great video

  18. @JamesS.254 on February 11, 2024 at 12:25 am

Seeing this gives me hope, I’ve got limited overhead space as I can only grow in my basement. I haven’t started yet, and will have another year of collecting information and materials needed, so plenty of time to save and get what I want. Man it sucks having to wait around in my state (OH) while it seems everyone around me has the freedom to grow.
This video shows the image I had in my head brought to life. Thanks for sharing.

That’s wild. Mine is on accident. I’m growing a photo with an auto. So she’s only 6 weeks old. But I don’t have the room for her to really stretch the 4×4. But by the time the auto is done. She will be huge. The auto has another month to compete. I plan to scrog the 4×4 and stretch from corner to corner with her

  37. @aricv1295 on February 11, 2024 at 12:47 am

Too bad the buds didnt dense up that well 🙁

  38. @rvansteensel420 on February 11, 2024 at 12:47 am

  41. @Winnetoo85 on February 11, 2024 at 12:48 am

Ok. The plant look amazing and all….. its an beautiful piece of art and a stunning first(!!!) grow. But its not efficient to veg 3 months for that yield imo.

  48. @lgdjokovic3766 on February 11, 2024 at 12:56 am

I’m still growing a very cheap setup sativa strain grown as indoor

  49. @jeromed2 on February 11, 2024 at 12:57 am

why do you show plants outdoor then in? it is 2 different crops?? I dont follow you at all pal. I think only those probably like you with a university degree in horticulture could understand it. Growing cannabis is easy, but to harvest a lot is the opposite of easy. I just got around 3/4 pound out of 14 plants…FAIL!!! You got it with 1? wtf dude? I used CANNA nutrients line, which is costly, especially their BOOST… and I used two 600W HPS lamps….How come I get fucking 3/4 pound out of 14 plants??? They looked great!!!

  50. @Horizontreecare on February 11, 2024 at 12:57 am

its more like over half a pound there bub
