How To Give a Cat a Pill | Chewtorials

When learning how to give a cat a pill, it’s important to be gentle, careful, and encouraging.

First, sit with the cat in your lap. Then wrap them in a towel, so just their head is exposed. Next, gently hold their head from above with your free hand. Then, tilt it back softly, so their nose points to the ceiling.

Carefully open your cat’s mouth by gently applying pressure on the lower lip and front teeth. Close their mouth quickly and keep it closed with an easy touch, while softly rubbing their throat. Finally, bring their head back slowly to its normal position and reward them with treats and toys for a job well done. That’s how to pill a cat.

Just keep following these simple instructions and handy cat tricks to take your pilling expertise to the next level.

Why am I watching this at 2am? I don’t even have a cat lol

  5. @natashalynn14 on April 16, 2024 at 8:24 am

    1. Crush pill
    2. Dissolve in a few drops of water
    3. Administer with oral syringe

Why do people make this so much harder for animals???

  6. @lauramalek3128 on April 16, 2024 at 8:28 am

I crushed my cat’s pill up and added water to it – she had a post surgical cone on so I just dripped it slowly down inside the cone and she kept licking it off the inside of the cone before it could reach her face. Mission accomplished.

We put Charlie’s pill in a soft Lysine cat treat. They mold into a ball and Charlie just scarfs them down.

I figured this would have involved buying something from Chewy. The only problem with that is that, as getting to be usual, Chewy is late sending my cat’s transdermal medication, so I’m having to give him a pill that I’ve had come to keep as backups because it’s a pretty heavy antianxiety. I don’t want him to cold-turkey suffer. He has anxiety bad enough to need this medication, so you can imagine what fun it is to try to give him pills. Well, considering Chewy’s pill popper is a thousand miles away in their warehouse, I’ll have to check out some other video that can give me a refresher on doing it the old fashion way.

Ohhh I should ask about compounding! I use the pet-piller device, but she spits out the pill.

  18. @keikoasmommy on April 16, 2024 at 8:48 am

Great video for most kitties. But I have a crotchety grumpy Russian Blue (are all Russian Blues grouchy?)
who 1. Wouldn’t sit in my lap if his life depended on it 2. Only lets me pan him for 3 seconds before he bites 3. I can’t trim his claws for the above reasons 4. I can touch his head for 3 seconds….
But the video is too cute.

  19. @katewehr414 on April 16, 2024 at 8:50 am

Yo what the hell do i do if my cat is a demon child? There is no way she is letting me do this.

  20. @dannamcfarland5531 on April 16, 2024 at 8:53 am

My question, was the cat I’ll or was that just the capsule?

  21. @Chris.357 on April 16, 2024 at 8:53 am

    Excellent video.

After pilling my cat multiple pills twice a day for over a year now, glad to know I figured out the best way without ever looking up how to 😂🤣😂 even down to the neck rub…

  26. @sondra8652 on April 16, 2024 at 8:59 am

I initially watched this video bc I needed to learn how to get my kitty to take a pill. I find myself returning to it bc Richie is so comforting and encouraging. Does he have other videos?

  27. @ericplaysbass on April 16, 2024 at 9:02 am

I thought he said “pet killer”. WTH?

  28. @lorrainewilliams7896 on April 16, 2024 at 9:02 am

Had to watch this as a refresher. It has been a while since i had to pill lady cat and the last time she spit one out three times. If the pill pockets fail, it will be back to pilling so I am grateful for this video.

  29. @jefferyneu3915 on April 16, 2024 at 9:04 am

    I needed you 30 years ago!😱

  30. @LolasAbode on April 16, 2024 at 9:04 am

This was a miss click but I sat down and watched the entire thing… I don’t even have a sick cat

  31. @catherinebreitfeller669 on April 16, 2024 at 9:05 am

Would never work with my cats

  32. @nikki10114 on April 16, 2024 at 9:06 am

My cat see that tube and wants to claw his life away

  33. @samuelkirschbaum6833 on April 16, 2024 at 9:07 am

Is there a way to block this video from showing up on my feed? I’m literally just trying to watch stand up comedy and it’s kind of the worst video to have continually interrupt. I don’t have a cat, they don’t need people to do just fine, but maybe we can do a video on how to feed pills to cat people and be done with videos like this that keep finding their way into the feed.

  34. @raekell on April 16, 2024 at 9:08 am

Something about this man with this adorable cat is so sexy. Hahaha.
And btw, I just shove the pill into the corner of my cat’s mouth really fast like a sneak attack. Then stroke her throat like in the video. Easy peasy. I was surprised it worked when I tried it.

  35. @alexiapatrick319 on April 16, 2024 at 9:08 am

I’ll be sure to let you know how goes

  36. @ccalexander1924 on April 16, 2024 at 9:08 am

That looks like my cat Boo Boo who died last week. I miss him. I had to give him liquid bc pills were impossible

  37. @clind6682 on April 16, 2024 at 9:08 am

Can I hire someone to come to my house and give my Effie her pill? She’s sick so I’ll get her out from under the bed for anyone daring enough to try. I have had only 1 cat in my 66 years who didn’t fight like a tiger to keep me from putting the tiniest pill down their throat regardless how sick.

  38. @kittywilhite9583 on April 16, 2024 at 9:09 am

It’s crucial to follow the pill with liquid or wet food to make sure it doesn’t damage the esophagus by lingering there. Just like with humans but more so because theirs is a lot smaller.

  39. @dcastleb69 on April 16, 2024 at 9:09 am

Bullshit! Try this on MY cat and see how it works. Cleaned up way more $128 pills off the floor than went in his belly.

  40. @lanihummel8397 on April 16, 2024 at 9:10 am

    Very helpful. Will try. Thanks!

I need to give my cat 1/2 tablet. I don’t have a pet piller. What suggestions do you offer?
