What weed people call genetic drift when talking about a single plant or its clones is really telomere degradation. (look up telomeres) Telomeres prevent errors in cell replication in an organism over its life span but they them selves wear away with each replication. So for example once a mother plant has been alive for 12 to 20 years its replicated its cells so many times that it’s telomeres are worn away and errors can occur in cell division causing retarded growth, mutations and deformities.
Here is a link that will get you to the "literal definition of genetic drift" according to the encyclopedia of genetics which was complied by a nobel prize winner in the field of physiology.
