Black-owned business striving for N.J.’s cannabis market

As recreational marijuana legalization has played out across the country, Black and brown entrepreneurs have largely been shut out of the industry. Black-owned Roll Up Life hopes to become one of the first companies in N.J. to earn a recreational cannabis license.

Black in New Jersey is a series highlighting and amplifying Black voices and culture.

Racist City leaders want to help people based on skin color and not help others because they don’t have the right skin color 🤯

Citizens are not recognizing the truth behind weed being illegal. The entity that owns the US Dollar along with most large corporations in America…. including the alcohol industry views it as direct competition. They made it illegal to ensure citizens continue to buy alcohol. It has NOTHING to do with "drugs" and "safety"……..IT HAS TO DO WITH MONEY. People would not spend the enormous amounts being charged for alcohol when they can grow weed-free in their house…..have fewer health problems and no hangover. Legalizing it will result in a controlled cash cow just like alcohol. They will legalize its sale but not it "growing in your basement"…… which will be against the law! It is all about money……. it is not about the citizen’s benefit. We live in a world of constant and increasing controls in every single aspect of our lives.

Since gentrification there’s no such thing as communities that was impacted and if there is is a very small number, because European Americans people live in the so-called hood, disco work on a new generation who is raised to believe that this place is one big gap commercial and it’s all equality we are not equal if I do not produce anything that European American ,Indian and Asian kids have to go to school for to build our 🤴🏿👸🏿empire as a black person if we don’t have that no diversity. What happens once European fund you. Good luck to those aboriginal get a chance to get a new business and may your business flourish bigger than any European out there.

As a white guy im feeling pretty discriminated, Ive been ducking and dodging cops just as much as anyone else. My whole life I’ve been considered an outlaw. Cops are cops no matter what color you are. Seems like more division than unity!!!! Scary how being white is problematic for getting a license. It’s not the color of your skin it’s the depth of your pockets. It’s the same people who persecuted us who now control this industry. Is it really legal? Or just incorporated?

Isn’t it funny now that weed is legal in NJ no one’s getting high. They forbid us to buy or grow and you can’t by but a little. Telling us to wait till they can get committee , and supplyer right when they have had way more than enough time . Doing the right thing but it don’t take no one this loooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg. But they know how much to tax. Ain’t that counting chickens before they hatch , and at least know where to get em from. Frustrated in Jersey

Good Luck! Hopefully people will become a little (or a lot) less ignorant, that way you and many others will not have to have this conversation for too much longer. For the people in the comments you call it race baiting because it does not apply to you. The truth is no one wants to keep having this conversation, it keeps coming up because it is real.

This is a rich vs. poor problem. Licenses can cost thousands to millions of dollars due to high demand and artificially low supply, and while still federally illegal, loans are impossible. You could have the best business model in the world, but unless you have 10million just chilling in a bank account or somehow convince friends, family, or fools to loan it to you, you stuck. people think we are a capitalist country but we are not. needing to pay over 1k for a license to operate is corruption, plain and simple. due to many years of structural racism, minorities are more likely to be less fortunate, but the less fortunate gross numbers are increasing. retail is dead, service industry is crowded, tech is becoming a broey circle jerk. We are all screwed.

  19. @leoneforte444 on July 15, 2024 at 7:19 pm

We should support good people not just people based on their race you guys make everything about race ya are the racist ones

  20. @GetInTouchTV on July 15, 2024 at 7:19 pm

Reparations for black people should come from the sales tax of legal weed. they already do it in a small town in Illinois.

  21. @stantondavid4435 on July 15, 2024 at 7:20 pm

The no medical program is trash, they don’t do any concentrates, only follower and carts and when u get the product it doesn’t even have anything listed from the lab report, like THC percentage and terp percentage, I’m not trying to buy shit that I don’t know what it is, if I wanted to do that I’d still be coping from homey

  22. @_-Knight on July 15, 2024 at 7:25 pm

It’s about the area you live in, not the color of your skin. There aren’t any free passes when it comes to starting a business.
