Maine Cannabis w/ President of the Maine Commercial Grower's Association

[reupload – improved audio]
“…There’s definitely going to be big business and small business, we just want this industry in Maine to evolve as a local industry that gives back to Maine. Not companies that are coming in, taking the money and investing that money outside of the state to the next state to allow recreational marijuana. We want to keep the money here and allow Mainers their first shot at licensing. ”

Tom Mourmouras is a tax consultant specializing in legal marijuana businesses in the state of Maine. He is also the president of the Maine Commercial Grower’s Association: a nonprofit trade organization that binds together business owners and growers of medical marijuana, adult-use marijuana, and agricultural hemp. He also is an engaged political advocate for small-business led legislation reform at the state level. A true voice for Mainers, he generously sat down with me at his Portland, Maine office to talk entrepreneurship, the changing state of the cannabis industry in Maine, and to give advice to regular citizens trying to create or find a new opportunity in any industry (hint: nothing comes without hard work).

Tom brought a ton of value to the audience: the fundamental importance of trust-built relationships for long-term success; the necessity of pure, ugly, unglamorous hard work; the value of apprenticing or finding someone who is doing what you want to do with a level of success (and then “showing up before them, leaving after them”). He also updated us on specific legislative events at the regional and national level — discussing the challenges, successes and future of the cannabis industry in Maine.

This is the full length interview. To find out more about Tom and his tax consulting service (Fiscal Therapy Financial) or the Maine Commercial Grower’s Association, follow @woodislandfarms on instagram or visit, www.MAINECGA.com

Finally got the external audio synced up — fan hum from first upload is gone but now there is occasional desk vibration…oh well! Learn and adapt for next time. Thanks for following along…

There’s so much that has changed since this interview! I’d like to get some kind of update video out there. Let me know if you guys know any other industry folk that might be good to talk to.
