Thailand will re-list cannabis as a narcotic by the end of 2024, the nation’s prime minister said on May 7, 2024. The stunning U-turn was made two years after the country became one of the first in Asia to decriminalise the drug for recreational use and despite the rapid growth of the marijuana retail sector. Tens of thousands of shops and businesses have sprung up in Thailand and the industry had been on track to be worth US$1.2 billion by 2025.

Cannabis should be absolutely just as legal and easy to obtain anywhere as alcohol currently is. In every single state. No exceptions. It’s so easy: As legal and easy to obtain/use as alcohol currently is. Why hold relatively benign, often healing cannabis to any sort of irrational, stricter double standard than perfectly legal alcohol?

  5. @ThompterSHunson on September 3, 2024 at 6:02 pm

They are rolling it back, to reset it benefiting the big corpos only, and they will roll it back out again.

People will turn to alcohol which will cause so much more harm than puffing, edibles or dabs etc.

  9. @hammyhamhamster5993 on September 3, 2024 at 6:05 pm

Legalize cannabis federally now. What’s legal to possess and consume in over half of the populated areas of The United States should not make you a criminal in states still being governed by woefully ignorant prohibitionist politicians. Cannabis consumers in all states deserve and demand equal rights and protections under our laws that are currently afforded to the drinkers of far more dangerous and deadly, yet perfectly legal, widely accepted, endlessly advertised and even glorified as an All-American pastime, alcohol. Plain and simple! Legalize Nationwide Federally Now!

  16. @bogse on September 3, 2024 at 6:11 pm

Kids who want marihuana get it anyway. And most importantly they get alcohol too anyway. As a kid you can easily overdose and die to alcohol but it is impossbile to die in marihuana. So law makers cant understand this, wonderful.

  30. @rhysshine3804 on September 3, 2024 at 6:23 pm

I believe they still need to pass this through parliament as it got passed through an emergency bill

  31. @Isacc.. on September 3, 2024 at 6:25 pm

Watch the big money pharma companies get the licences to suply cannabis.

  32. @eugenec7130 on September 3, 2024 at 6:26 pm

Legalization of marijuana in Thailand was done in a hurry with no extensive study on its long term effects. Thailand has now come back to its senses. Way to go!

  33. @LukeThomasPerth on September 3, 2024 at 6:27 pm

well done Thailand…you have dnone well

  34. @nlorand9033 on September 3, 2024 at 6:28 pm

Children can get ice and yabba easy but the government aren’t stopping that.
The amount of ice and yabba being sold shows there is a big market in Thailand. Children also can get alcohol easy too. Maybe the government can stop alcohol sales and production. The amount of young teens on alcohol and yabba is astonishing.
The government should be focusing on that.

  35. @Purowalangkwenta on September 3, 2024 at 6:32 pm

Hahahahahha! The Gov’t is right! If its for medicinal purposes yes. But for recreational no! HAHAHAHAHHAA!
