What is the BEST WATER for GROWING CANNABIS?

What’s the best water source for growing your cannabis? Most people will just turn on their taps and use their household water, but you’ve likely heard that you’re better off with distilled or Reverse Osmosis water for growing your cannabis, but why is that? And what is distilled and Reverse osmosis water and where do you get it? What about well or lake water? That should be a good source of water to grow healthy plants, but is it? You may have heard that others have had success using water from your air conditioner or dehumidifier, is that an option?
*DISCLAIMER* This video is for people 21+ who live in areas that have some sort of legal Cannabis program. Gary the Water Guy does not support any illegal activity of any kind.

Water quality is critical when it comes to creating all life including plants, but people generally use tap water for growing and then add loads of different products to the water in order to feed their plants without checking the quality of their water. Then they’re surprised with their mediocre results. Using the wrong kind of water makes your plants much more susceptible to illnesses and attracting insects and fungi infestations, which can lead to poor quality flowers once harvested.
In order to get great quality flowers and to make the most out of the nutrients used, the most important thing is to make sure that you know your water, which means knowing what’s in the water. Secondly, you’ll need to work within specific pH and EC levels so that your plants can absorb everything they need to flourish. Keep in mind that these levels vary depending on the phase your plants are in and the strain grown. This is why you absolutely need pH and EC meters to test your water, when growing cannabis, although this video is more about different types of water and how and if they can be used.
Potential problem areas with the water you use are Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, sodium, boron, silica, Chlorides and Chloramines. Keep that in mind when selecting your water source. The goal is to use water that has a pH of 6.5 or less and TDS that is under 200 ppm. PH tells you how acidic the water is or isn’t and Electro Conductivity or EC or TDS tells you the total dissolved solids content of your water. You need to test your water with a pH tester and EC or TDS meter to make sure you know what you’re starting out with. Generally, you will need to start with water that has a very low EC, the lower the better.
Always keep in mind that water is a natural solvent and absorbs whatever minerals it comes into contact with. So if the soil in your area has a lot of minerals so will your water, minerals that are not particularly good for growing which will raise the EC.

  4. @HoaxManTheOne on November 10, 2024 at 10:00 pm

AC runoff is great, been using it forever 🙂 can keep all my plants alive with just a portable unit too…and its less humid/warm in here. ph is around 7 usually is with all pure water. 7 is totally fine for cannabis.

It ain’t about what you support, because it’s still illegal federal so you’re still breaking the law, I’m just saying don’t sugarcoat it I’m a libertarian, as long as you’re not hurting anyone live free 🆓

Water from a rain barrel….only compost tea for nutes, garden photos GG. 8ft plus, big yeilds!

If you weren’t going to tell us what "good minerals" we need and how to find them the entirety of this lesson was your graph,,, and the RO sales pitch at the end

  14. @LetsGetitTv2 on November 10, 2024 at 10:16 pm

This man has found something wrong with every type of water on the planet and outer space. Just get a good water filter and a ph tester.

  15. @Joe-ti7qd on November 10, 2024 at 10:17 pm

Spring water is just rain water from caves.

  16. @DC-nt3zk on November 10, 2024 at 10:17 pm

What do you know about growing cannabis with any water thats right none. Anyone that uses r/o water will have difficulties with keeping the ph stable because theres no buffer in the water as the filter removes it so unless you follow the lucas method or mix a percentage of tap water you will have problems. You are only a water filter salesman and want to target the cannabis community for sales

  17. @Fannyschmeller2002 on November 10, 2024 at 10:18 pm

I’ve found rainwater where I live in England seems to be too acidic for the plants they don’t always but I see them go into lockout sometimes from rainwater but it never happens with my tap water so that’s the best option for me imo . I believe everyone’s best option of water is different based on where they are and they should test and see . Experiment with different water sources to find the best one for them

Using a RO filter with a house that runs on culligan water softener. Ok?

  20. @brucebehner4142 on November 10, 2024 at 10:21 pm

How do you get distilled water with a ph of 5.9? It should be 7, it should be completely neutral with no ppm

  21. @alincosnita4570 on November 10, 2024 at 10:22 pm

I have a Plant wich grow in starter soil for 5 days.. now i look at her and look overfertilize .. i measure the ec on My source of Water and is 1.1 .. What do you think? I overfertilizing her when i watering with this water ec 1.1 plus the nutes wich alteady exist in the starter soil? Thx

  22. @erocker78 on November 10, 2024 at 10:22 pm

I’m new to growing but here’s an observation that I would like to share. I’ve tried ph’d distilled water, bottled water, ro water, all with and without nutes, cal mag, and other things, etc. My tap water comes from Lake Erie with a PH level consistent at 7.6. I used just straight tap water toward the end of the last grow with some run off, watering every 3 days and the plants seemed to really love that the most.

  23. @robertgordon8606 on November 10, 2024 at 10:22 pm

How about the water sold in stores, the big 5 gallon jugs you fill in the store?

  24. @420kushmaster on November 10, 2024 at 10:22 pm

if your doing Hydroponics Only its better to use filtering for water. soil grows tap is fine just add three lemon drops and call it good for tap

  25. @cory4419 on November 10, 2024 at 10:24 pm

Should i use water from a spring the ph is 5.9 and ppm is 311

  26. @OrganicGreens on November 10, 2024 at 10:25 pm

Cant beat spring or rain water.

  27. @brianbright9812 on November 10, 2024 at 10:25 pm

This is just a commercial. I’ve been using spring water forever. No problems at all.

  28. @imothy on November 10, 2024 at 10:36 pm

I use tap water, where I live the TDSS is 65 and PH is 7.5, its very good and i’m lucky. I sometimes use "Prime" to dechlorinate, iv’e used it in my aquariums for 20 years it seems to keep fish alive can’t hurt to try? My soil buffers my PH down about 1 whole point, so I’ve just been giving them straight tap almost the entire grow unless i mix up a compost tea or something.

  29. @geogreen8360 on November 10, 2024 at 10:36 pm

    This is a commercial

  30. @Scalemodelhotrods on November 10, 2024 at 10:39 pm

I’m able to harvest at least 5 gal a day of condensation from my AC. I collect it in a 35 gal container with live Goldfish for nutrients. Water test stay at 125 TDS, 6.3 Ph and nitrates at 45ppm. My plants absolutely thrive

  31. @Bob-en1ge on November 10, 2024 at 10:39 pm

My cannabis plants get only rain water. My vegetable garden gets city tap water that comes from a well.
Using rain water and growing in living soil, I don’t need to know my ph.

  32. @ezlife2x228 on November 10, 2024 at 10:40 pm

Main thing is when it comes to water no matter what kind of water it is. It Must get tested. So you know what your working with

  33. @electricurinal on November 10, 2024 at 10:40 pm

We live in a city that has the best tap water in the united states. It comes out of the tap with a TDS of about 40ppm… but the pH is 8.6. Easy to correct. We are very lucky.

  34. @derektomey7888 on November 10, 2024 at 10:41 pm

Love the presentation excellent information but may you remind me of Scotty Kilmer so bad?

  35. @gremlin5813 on November 10, 2024 at 10:41 pm

Can you Add bottled water to well water to lower mineral PPM?

  36. @someguywithajob5328 on November 10, 2024 at 10:41 pm

I use my well water, no problem ever

  37. @four20producerz77 on November 10, 2024 at 10:44 pm

RO. ONLY not sure what IN WATER you have.?? home depot has lab test sent out for free. just takes a while to get back to you, but it tell you what u have and amount per million. tds just say total dissolve metals per million. if on a budget? go get a tap filter for RVs 2x at walmart or online. less than 30$ those take out the heavier. metals

I use Poland spring’s bottled water. Ph: 6.53 PPM: 63

  41. @llpadrinojfcmc7042 on November 10, 2024 at 10:50 pm

Why does my RO water have a PH 0f 9.0

  42. @torresroger26 on November 10, 2024 at 10:50 pm

A comment made by this video that’s false is about distillers. He’s stated that purchasing, operating and maintaining a distiller is expensive. No it’s not. I purchased a distiller back in 2016 and if used everyday, will clean it every 2 weeks. Using a decalcifier removes the calcium build up and normally takes it off by operating the distiller for 30 minutes and pouring it out. I have clean water all the time with almost effortless work involved. Also my PH is 6.3 consistently. Not sure how that is too low, because this is in the optimal range for cannabis. Please inform me if any of what I said is wrong please.

  43. @saltybildo9448 on November 10, 2024 at 10:50 pm

Runnin a well here need to check it though

  44. @bankruptjojo5009 on November 10, 2024 at 10:51 pm

I dont understand how using PH down helps… The PH always goes back up. i learned when keeping fish trying to reach a PH is impossible unless using RO. Having the PH bounce around is bad and better to just stay consistent. So in my mind using PH up or down is pointless.

  45. @TopoftheSouthPacific. on November 10, 2024 at 10:51 pm

    Tropical island,Mountain stream water .

  46. @SuttyHaze on November 10, 2024 at 10:52 pm

    So the answer is MAYBE.

  47. @valhollywood4002 on November 10, 2024 at 10:53 pm

Ive been using tap h2o & knowing that it has chlorine/chloramine in it, i use potassium campden tablets. Usually the tap is right at 7 ph so i bring it down to 6.2 for veg and 6.8 when flowering. I haven’t experienced any issues. Thanks for the great information and the video.

  48. @randomdude189 on November 10, 2024 at 10:54 pm

Essentially the world is further gone than anyone wants to admit

  49. @thedatajanitor9537 on November 10, 2024 at 10:54 pm

Yeah… nope. The best water is actually tap or bottled water run through a Brita filter. Reverse osmosis and distilled water will leech minerals from the soil and likely from the plants because they are completely deionized and that’s the opposite of what you want. Ideally, you are looking for a pH of 7 or slightly below.

Not here for cannibus but general purpose and test results. Also wanting an RO for my house so I’ll be here a minute
