Medical Cannabis Status in South Africa and Export Comments

This video provides a presentation followed by a general open group discussion on medical cannabis and quality considerations for international offtake and sale from a South African perspective. By focusing on the quality control standards of pharmaceutical/medical grade cannabis we address how to potentially incorporate dietary supplement and recreational cannabis quality control considerations. An open forum of questions is initiated at around 27minutes into the video. This video touches on topics like GACP (Good Agricultural Collection Practices), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) focusing on 21 CFR 111 vs 21 CFR 210/211, PIC/S (Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention/Co-operation Scheme) and how South Africa is a unique member in Africa. COAs related to a monograph for cannabis along with the need for ISO 17025 testing in the space. The testing discussion covers pesticides, heavy-metals, microbiological tests, aflatoxins, potency, and stability testing.

Government needs to focus on Industrial Hemp and release its associated domestic socio-economical upliftment potential with grants and subsidies and a simplistic regulatory framework, and let private sector cover THC and CBD botanical extraction grows through specialised department as opposed to SAHPRA. The American Industrial Hemp Market differs from ours as we have a far higher need for basic products(houses, clothes and food) that are created from sustainable materials. I would also rather an ISO approach to standardisation! Nice discussion points guys! Good talk!
