This story is quite shocking, first of all you have to know that all that "captured marijuana" ends up on the street. And the police don’t even think that 80 percent of growers have already taken on debt to do people good, but these people don’t ask, they are interested in investing. And here violence ensues.
where im from in virginia. it was first decriminalized in 2020 then legalized up to an ounce in public in 2021. we’re also allowed to grow up to 4 plants but usually people grow a little more, chances are you’ll get away with it. marijuana is going to be big money in the future for those who have the connects to sell it, especially in illegal markets or grey areas.

Here in USA in legal (recreational) states $500 a lb for commercial cannabis is the going rate.
There is a war between large scale well funded commercial growers and those doing home grow/boutique growing with the general public preferring the gray mkt over the green mkt because the large scale growers cannot produce the quality of the small boutique growers.
with that being said, organized crime has infiltrated the industry and runs whole chains of grow to distribution networks with name branding etc and those organizations look to push the boutique growers out of business.
it kind of backfires in their faces when their (commercial ) cannabis is full of mold and pesticides the public is reminded not to trust big business once again and the money flows to the growers that grow top shelf organic medicine.
