Coco vs Soil – Marijuana Grow Comparison – We did not expect such a big difference!!!

Now that both plants are considered well established I think the differences are going to become even more clear between plants grown in soil versus a blend of Coco and perlite… I was expecting the plant in Coco to do a little better but when I saw the difference in Roots I said to myself, holy s**t!!! What do you think? Both plants are getting fed the exact same nutrients.

Led poisoning from the lights is what I call the red stems if you move it to a hps light it goes away too some strains get led poisoning has no affect on the plant

  2. MTBR s on September 11, 2020 at 11:31 pm

Red stems could be too cold in dark period

  3. Bishop Taylor on September 11, 2020 at 11:34 pm

If I use my homemade nutrients and compost as well as organic soil in my garden to grow my bud would I still need to flush towards the end

why would you not add soil before stepping up? roots arent gonna grow up lol

  8. Belua on September 11, 2020 at 11:49 pm

    Cool

  9. CoastChillin on September 11, 2020 at 11:54 pm

obv the soil will win if your feeding them the same lol

  10. Dan J on September 11, 2020 at 11:55 pm

great experiment, real useful to see.

objectively the pot in soil is getting more nutrients/ferts due to the nutrients that came with the soil.

    quote from advancednutrients dot com
"Can lock out calcium, magnesium and iron: Because of its high cation exchange rate, coco coir stores and releases nutrients as needed, but it tends to hold calcium, magnesium and iron. This means you’ll need use specific coco coir nutrients to boost Ca, Mg and Fe levels for healthy crops."

not sure if this grow is still going but would love to see how extra calcium, magnesium and iron ferts ( the the right nutes/ph to unlock said nutes) would bring up the coco coir grow.

either way would love to see the same experiment on a new grow with extra needed nutes on coco coir

would also be interesting to see soil/coco test to see levels of nutrients

    keep at it 😉

You spoke straight facts about the root zone (rhizosphere) being more like a web and not having big denser roots. 💯🔥

  12. VanIsland Beauty on September 11, 2020 at 11:56 pm

Obviously the coco plant will do better, your nutes are feeding the roots where as the soil not doing as much, you need a organic amendment line!!!

  13. Sam soom on September 11, 2020 at 11:59 pm

I find the stem colouring to be from the cold where I am, even a cold wind blast can discolor them temporarily ,

  14. announmous my life on September 11, 2020 at 11:59 pm

The leafs are droopping you are over water ring

  15. Mykul Trashe on September 12, 2020 at 12:00 am

what a waste. they should be twice the size and not be as anemic. the solution? fabric pots. oh and dont wait as long as this? the plant in the coco shouldve been transplanted two weeks earlier than he did. and if you dont know, topping your plant would make them much fuller

  16. johny ubankta on September 12, 2020 at 12:00 am

Is there a specific technique to make the roots feather like this or is it dependent on strains or other variables? Thanks for the no nonsense video

  17. SuperDjavol on September 12, 2020 at 12:00 am

all i can say is that plant will grow in soil without any nutrients, but not in coco!!!

WHAT DOES THE LEAF COLOR BEING DIFFERENT INDICATE?? MAYBE DO A VID TALKING ABOUT LEAF COLOR CHANGES AND WHAT THEY COULD MEAN

  23. Talon Polach on September 12, 2020 at 12:03 am

Hey Wizard NPK, I’m growing in oceanforest with RO water. Did you add calmag with every watering when you did this comparison???

  24. Marcos Gorostieta on September 12, 2020 at 12:05 am

If you where to just water them with plain water with right oh the soil one will grow all the way but the coco one would not because soil carries calcium and magnesium etc… when the coco has no nutrients so feeding them the same is really not feeding them the same you fell me

  25. Rusty Shackleford on September 12, 2020 at 12:05 am

This should have it’s own playlist because now I gotta get my shovel n start digging to find the other videos lol

Isn’t it phosphorus that the plant is lacking when the stems go purple?

  27. Star Gazer on September 12, 2020 at 12:06 am

Try a 70/30 ratio with your cocoa and perlite…I love using cocoa it’s really simple!!!❤️❤️❤️

  28. Ahmad Pince Sr on September 12, 2020 at 12:06 am

WHAT SIZE POT DID THEY GET TRANSPLANT FROM AND WHAT SIZE DID THEY GET TRANSPLANTED TO???

  29. Classick Genetics on September 12, 2020 at 12:06 am

This is a good comparison but what I would like to know is what kind of Coco you started with in the first place because some Coco is extremely salty and will cause lock out. I used to use ocean forest with great results and then I switched to good brand name Cocoa and had explosive results. It just depends on the Coco you’re using

  30. NorCal_CBR on September 12, 2020 at 12:07 am

to see the advantages of coco you need to feed it like hydro thats one of the things about her being so flexible. if you treat it and feed it like dirt they you will get dirt yields. if you feed smaller feeds of around 125ml 6 times a day like a hydro feed then you will also get the hydro results. Also your mistake is mixing any let alone half and half perlite. It may not seem like it but the plain coco has more then enough airspace in the roots it doesnt need any at all. Doing a side by side of coco and coco mix will show you what i mean.

  31. Jimi Hendrix on September 12, 2020 at 12:09 am

Wiz I’ve been following your videos for a couple Years. I love and appreciate the information. Much respect buddy! I was curious what should I use on this grow? Coco and perlite? What all nutrients are you feeding with coco. Is airport better than the smart pots? Lmk if you get time. Much respect Wiz!!

  32. Darren on September 12, 2020 at 12:10 am

    Both shit looking plants.

  33. Quincy Pinola on September 12, 2020 at 12:11 am

Why didnt you start in the 5 gallon?

  34. Bushylingus on September 12, 2020 at 12:11 am

The red and purple Anthocyanins are a response to uv light.

  35. Rhodes68 on September 12, 2020 at 12:12 am

Not feeding the coco enough, it aint soil

  36. JG Photography on September 12, 2020 at 12:14 am

The red means it’s getting tons of light and it’s loving it. A lot of plants do that.

  37. CAJUN W33DH3AD on September 12, 2020 at 12:15 am

Should have used same strain and same genetics

  38. 25Patman on September 12, 2020 at 12:15 am

The ocean forest looks alittle nicer to me.

  39. MovingName 358 on September 12, 2020 at 12:18 am

Its a tan thats what the red is

  40. Chris lov3s Oldschools on September 12, 2020 at 12:18 am

Check roots they get root bound and start to turn purple

  41. ROLFCOPTERZZ on September 12, 2020 at 12:18 am

    soil looks more healthy

  42. shadymaint1 on September 12, 2020 at 12:19 am

I mix coco and a high compost soil. Use smart pots. Root balls get very dense and not root bound at all.

  43. nivesknight on September 12, 2020 at 12:21 am

Have you done a comparison on breaking up the root ball and not breaking it on root bound plants?? I dont like to break up the root ball it seems to much for me. If you haven’t you could also try soaking the root ball in water to let them loosen naturally. You would pull the plant out of it’s one gallon and soak for a little bit while preparing the next size pot. I would like to see the difference but with 3 plant max for some places. Might sound silly but about how tall or maybe a number of nods are your plants when you take them from veg to flower? As well as when they finish?

  44. Truth hurts on September 12, 2020 at 12:24 am

I’m sorry but I’ve grown using fox farm ocean forest for over 10yrs. My hydro produces 2x the amount with zero complications and zero deficiencies. Fox farm is for beginners. Clean your drain pans fyi. No disrespect.

  45. Lars Van Den Broek on September 12, 2020 at 12:24 am

You’re overfeeding the soil plant dummy

  46. SNoWfLaKe_Da_BoSS on September 12, 2020 at 12:24 am

Red stems is normal just a genetic trait not something that can be changed

  47. Diogo Oliveira on September 12, 2020 at 12:25 am

The way you treat your plants reveals an huge lack of respect for mother nature.

  48. Chris McAllister on September 12, 2020 at 12:27 am

    Too much perlite.

  49. Justin Martin on September 12, 2020 at 12:28 am

man… these are some bad practices. that room looks like a mold issue just waiting to happen.

  50. 61Hedge on September 12, 2020 at 12:29 am

Check out growweedeasy.com for a short list of possibilities for the red stems. Nothing to worry about.
