The Legal Marijuana Industry Is Rigged | Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj | Netflix

As rich, white business owners monopolize newly-available marijuana licenses, states continue to arrest people of color for cannabis crimes, even after it’s legal. This leads Hasan to ask: if cannabis can’t be legalized fairly, should it be legalized at all?

Yeah πŸ˜‚,it’s still called a Doobie!!! I moved from Hard core NC for greener pastures. I’ve traveled to Washington State, California, Oregon and Colorado. Came back East and reside in Virginia. Virginia is listening to the Voters and Legalization is right around the corner!!! I can hardly wait, been waiting 43 years to see changes. BTW in California, I felt like I had walked into a whole different Country! Needles,SLO,Atascadero,Passo Robles and Morrow Bay were so freaking awesome 😍!!! What’s neat is there were Dispensaries and also Private growers with some pretty dank underground weed, cheaper than dispensary and as good as dispensary!!! For all those that made My adventure so wonderful, thank You,I Love all of You β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘!!! Can’t wait to come back to visit!!!

Capitalism ruins everything, even pot. It was better when the gangsters ran it; they were more honest and fair.

This gave me a nice laugh. 5-6 years ago I remember having a discussion, heated even, with one of my good buddies whos a pot head. He (they, pot heads) were/are so eager to have weed legalized they willingly stepped right into this mess. I kept asking him, dude when have you ever had an issue buying weed? to which he said never. I then said why do you want to legalize under terms that will not be all that helpful?

Oh and the white swami is like you being 90’s George Michael… big fan of his Faith look I take it.

    medicinal vs recreational ???
grow your own. its a weed. they cant stop it even if they REALLY wanted to . PLUS That way you know what nutrients (organic preferably) are in it.

  6. Matthew Shanks on September 13, 2020 at 11:40 pm

Decriminalizing it period, let whomever grow their own. End of story.

  7. Bill Feil on September 13, 2020 at 11:41 pm

DVJ Fine Cannabis near the Death Valley in California is on a Reservation. Prices are almost half what I see at other dispensaries in California. I hope the White Man can keep their hands off that one. I only get up that way once every couple of years, but I like stopping by when I can.

The hypocrisy of America is astounding. The same politicians who enforced mass incarceration of African Americans for selling and smoking weed are now starting their own drug cartels to benefit from the selling marijuana now that it is illegal. Now we know the real reason why John Behner walked away from politics. You couldn’t make this sβ€”t up.
When are those imprisoned going to be released and have their records cleaned?

  9. Justin Nix on September 13, 2020 at 11:44 pm

Millions killed, tortured, and jailed over this. How many more must die and suffer before we just grow weed everywhere?

The smaller companies need to diversify. Cannabis is not just for smoking. There are a wide range of products that can be made from the plant. Paper, rope, and clothing.

  14. Ed Buckley on September 13, 2020 at 11:48 pm

It is not surprising there are not more black owned marijuana companies as someone who grew up in the industry I would meet maybe five African American good cannabis growers for every hundred white cannabis growers I have met also this story makes it seem worse than it is legal marijuana will always be two or three times more expensive then stuff you can buy on the street which will always leave a good opportunity for those who want to take it with it being legal in a lot of states once you make the transaction with your customer their weed is now legal and they don’t have to worry about being prosecuted therefore your risk as the seller also goes way down I have not met many expert black growers but there are a lot of Hispanic and Asian growers besides just white people

  15. DARRYL DAMON on September 13, 2020 at 11:49 pm

I don’t think it should be legal if it’s only for white dudes

Don’t legalize it! Decriminalize it and parole all former criminal litigants. Remove all non-violent related criminal charges from the record. If anyone can grow it in their own back yard, it becomes what it is a worthless weed that some use for medicinal and pleasure.

  21. Anthony Brown on September 13, 2020 at 11:57 pm

I never seen people kill themselves because of marijuana. I never heard of anyone commit suicide while smoking marijuana.

  22. Martin Mellembakken on September 13, 2020 at 11:58 pm

Of course you need vertical integration, or next step company will ruin your product probably without even knowing. It’s like a kick it’s several steps made into one, if you are going to start the kick and someone else is going to finish it, it’s impossible. Also if you don’t have vertical integration you have no chance of bettering the quality of the product. I had my own growing thing going on years ago i did not sell it, just gave it away for free to people who should get it in the pharmacy, like we could here in Norway before we somehow got included in usa war on drugs. It actually only made drug addicts here. I guess that was the plan. And I smoked myself, usaly together with the disabled people i was given it to for free. I’m an orphan i never had money to expensive equipment, but I got some for free, from some of the people who got weed and hashish from me. I tried to make as much cbd as possible, not thc, but of course it was that to. It’s easy to do everything from producing seeds to making hashish. I did most from clones, with around three mother plants at the time,,, if the state wasn’t so corrupt about those permits you could easily find your own place in the market, but if you only think about money it’s not really for you anyway

i am Not in favor of legalizing cannabis. These criminal b@stards have no right to touch it. God gave all herb bearing seed to man not government. Until folks decide to stop being stupid and follow common logic that tells us All government is utterly wicked, we’ll remain slaves to All government. We’ve made our government god and that is pathetic on our part.

  28. The Safe Journey on September 14, 2020 at 12:06 am

legalize it but take it away from the medical side, its no more madical than green tea, or aloe vera. if more people grew their own they wouldn’t have to buy it in a store that charges 3 different taxes. were as medical is tax free. vote for less regulation and licensing.

  29. nbarrager Productions on September 14, 2020 at 12:09 am

I’m from Florida and it’s exactly as described. The legal weed is so ridiculously overpriced that even most people I know who got medical cards don’t bother with it.

Leave it to the good ol’ U.S. of A. to turn weed into an advanced capitalist nightmare… and they take your personal contact info and ID when you buy it, but "don’t worry man, it’s just to make sure we don’t sell you over the limit in one day…".

It’s still federally illegal because marijuana laws are Jim Crow tactics to allow whites to corner the market and still ruin minorities lives.

All the over 20 licences given out in Illinois. None of them were given to Black and Brown people yet there are black and brown people in jail or have records for using or selling. The definition of crime doesn’t mean "bad" it means what a municipality deems "illegal"
