Chris Harris on… Tesla Model S 'Plaid': 0-60 in under 2 seconds | Top Gear

Chris Harris joins Top Gear Magazine Editor Jack Rix to discuss the new Tesla Model S ‘Plaid’ – a revision of the Model S with 1100bhp, a 0-60 time under two seconds, and a steering wheel suspiciously devoid of its roundness. So, what do you think of the ‘Plaid’? Let us know in the comments.

Also, if you’re in the UK, don’t miss the new series of Top Gear, available on iPlayer right now: http://bit.ly/TG-S30

P.S. It was quite chilly in the hanger that day, hence why the boys are wrapped up.

Weird hearing Chris worrying about the depreciation of EVs, when in reality it’s the other way round, EVs depreciate much less than their petrol and diesel counterparts. I predict the balance will probably sway further towards EVs as more people come to realise this, some used EVs have appreictaed in value which is mental. Nissan Leafs bottomed out a couple of years ago.

4:16 it is like Chris harris is reading my mind. current rs6 is overstyled the last generation was the peak of rs6 design.

  3. Sine Nomine on April 7, 2021 at 11:17 pm

2sec 0-60 is pretty much irrelevant, I would be happier if it did it in 9 second but managed to go 1000km+ on a single charge.

EV’s don’t provide good, sporty driving experience.

i dont want because its too fast… SAID NO ONE BUT THIS DUDE

Proof Chris is literally fuelled by big oil

  6. Parax77 on April 7, 2021 at 11:22 pm

Nobody really needs 500 miles non stop range.. it exists in current cars because it’s a visit to the petrol station every two weeks, instead of a visit twice a week… but this is null and void with electric cars that charge on your home driveway every night. you don’t need "fortnight range" you need range to the next stop over.. and you need a charger at your stopover! and this is where public infrastructure is a bit lacking..

In England it is a Tezla?

  8. Jonathan Pollock on April 7, 2021 at 11:26 pm

How is it a true car review if no one gets behind the wheel?

  9. caleb hunter on April 7, 2021 at 11:26 pm

Hearing them discuss how 0-60 in under 2 seconds would be "painful" and "uncomfortable" just plainly shows their petrol bias. Since when has that level of acceleration ever been looked down upon by car enthusiasts? Of course EV’s are only impressive in a straight line– but so is an American muscle car and we still cherish those vehicles. Likewise, the vast majority of EV owners aren’t looking for a car to take through the hills– they’re looking for a car to take them to work. We need to stop looking at these cars as though they’re competing with Porsche.

Great automotive futurism. Well done Chris!

  13. Mythix2 on April 7, 2021 at 11:29 pm

I’d rather have less range and more steering wheel.

  14. MegaS on April 7, 2021 at 11:30 pm

Your love for fossil fuel is leaking out. Pss pant Tw^ts. But Fossil fuel will not be used after 2030, try whatever you want.

  15. Tesla Lover2000 on April 7, 2021 at 11:31 pm

I do love my Tesla, simply far superior to any electric vehicle. Though Audi and Volkswagen are getting better.

  16. Knight Hood on April 7, 2021 at 11:32 pm

Complete rubbish, it comes with normal steering wheel and York as options and also for reversing you have option on the screen to swipe, please learn more about new Tesla model S before you talk about it

My takeaway from this video is that Harris needs to hydrate

  18. Steve Blomefield on April 7, 2021 at 11:32 pm

    acceleration in good for overtaking

  19. UnderageBeerHere on April 7, 2021 at 11:34 pm

What he’s describing at the end with just adding a body is already being done. Look up the company Canoo.

    Bunch of car conservatives

  21. CoolRaul on April 7, 2021 at 11:38 pm

It looks to me like two guys worried about their future.
Everything they complained about basically puts them out of a job

  22. Gerg C on April 7, 2021 at 11:40 pm

Aerodynamics play a huge part in the range.

  23. Joshua McGuire on April 7, 2021 at 11:41 pm

0 to 60 in under 2 seconds is something you don’t wanna do more than once?? What a bunch of clowns

  24. Rodfather Fishing on April 7, 2021 at 11:42 pm

How did we get to the point where it’s so fast its uncomfortable? Is there such a thing? I’m a speed junkie the faster it accelerates the better. I don’t drive 300 miles per hour. Model s plaid is my new dream car.

  25. PengWin76 on April 7, 2021 at 11:42 pm

Chris Harris is a TOP bloke. He is TOP gear for me. I don’t watch the a daft stuff anymore.

  26. m Jerome on April 7, 2021 at 11:42 pm

So the only thing that is different is the damn optional steering wheel and higher price….Wow big deal.

We know what happened last time. Don’t think we don’t know this is all scripted. You aren’t smart.

  30. Captain G on April 7, 2021 at 11:50 pm

Absolutely on the nose right up to the point where he thinks batteries will come along so far in 2 years. This will not happen except for Tesla and what they’re doing with their new cell and production technology to bring costs down.

  33. Sith-3PO on April 7, 2021 at 11:52 pm

Strange that TG emphasises the importance of acceleration when testing ex-cars, and counting tenths of a second to determine how good ex-cars are.
But when it comes to el-cars, acceleration it’s suddenly painful, a problem and something you don’t want. Did you guys inherit the silliness of Clarkson?

  34. J M on April 7, 2021 at 11:52 pm

Get on the Joe Rogan show be a good yarn

  35. misujerr on April 7, 2021 at 11:52 pm

Oh man, I thought that he was actually going to ~drive~ one πŸ™ No thumbs down because it was still interesting to hear him talk about generic electric underpinnings with a 3D printed car (say a W124;) above.

  36. Andrew Church on April 7, 2021 at 11:52 pm

wow, WHAT has changed in 15 mths – at 62, saved enough for a factory new car – bought Tesla stock TSLA instead, Oct 2019, sold just a few at 11 times what I paid.

They’re talking as if EV’s are a given, and Tesla is in front with an advantage, I’ve heard VW CEO say that a few times. Did Covid accelerate market perception? Seem crazy how much broad market perception and public opinion has changed, my sister thought me nuts, Tesla? at 62, so close to retirement age…. they’d have to perform huge just to be as good as Superannuation returns and tax advantages in Australia.. She’s right, listen to the analysts at the time, it was a gamble, and not a very smart one.

  37. D Jones on April 7, 2021 at 11:53 pm

boring i know, but i wish we would talk about the width of cars – its getting out of hand. they don’t fit anywhere – in the real world

  38. Nigol T. on April 7, 2021 at 11:54 pm

Imagine you had tickets to see Luciano Pavarotti in concert. When you arrive, there’s an announcement that Luciano’s vocal cords were surgically removed. If some ultra genius can figure that out, I would buy an electric car.

  39. YouTube Life on April 7, 2021 at 11:54 pm

Chris Harris is a dinosaur. Sorry buddy but Tesla and electric cars are the future.

  40. Kyle Davis on April 7, 2021 at 11:56 pm

"do you want to experience it or do you want to get a passenger and show off?" how about both? Tesla and its speed are far less "show off-y" than a 2 seat supercar where you can’t even touch the top speed in a big city.

  41. Signman 68 on April 7, 2021 at 11:59 pm

They missed the point that Tesla’s are unobtainable to the masses

  42. One Issue Voter on April 7, 2021 at 11:59 pm

So when Tesla makes a super fast car, they criticize, and when Porsche comes out with an even FASTER car with LESS range, they say it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Go ahead England, funnel all your money to nazis that make unreliable cars with huge maintenance costs, unnecessarily complicated features, and cheat on emissions testing.

  43. Mo A on April 8, 2021 at 12:01 am

Tesla is ahead but Nio is catching fast

  44. Tr3X Shadd on April 8, 2021 at 12:02 am

Sounds like apes talking. Detaining whether to drive or reserve is the easiest to implement based on existing parking sensors. Do ask drivers about cars or it tech, ask them how the drive felt.

  45. Dirk Dechering on April 8, 2021 at 12:04 am

Tesla 7 yrs ahead of the pack? Wait for the Mercedes EQS next week, seems to be already a close race between Tesla and EQS right now

  46. Mr M. on April 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

Carmageddon is coming soon and Tesla will be alone on the top. All due to battery scarcity, the FSD and too low margins for all the others.

  47. Macc on April 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

from 1:30 to 2:00 are just brainfarts… wait… nahh the whole thing is just brainfarts. Let me give you morons (the two in the video) some legit cons (at least for the Model 3 performance, which I own).
1- Steering is too direct. At high speeds (70mph+), it will be hard to keep it in the "middle" of the line (not in the line).
2- Lack of heads-up display; which will allow you to not have to look at the middle screen for info like speed limit and current speed.
3- AC will eat up half your range. Sentry Mode, more so.
4- Charging takes too long if you can’t charge it at home/work (which will make it not a problem since you just plug it and charge while you sleep/work).
5- Turning radius could be improved. Currently is 19 (not bad) vs for example 17 on some competitor BMW models. It makes a difference when making U turns on some tight 2 line streets, and when parking.
6- Glass roof, while it gives passengers a nice view (if you are driving most likely you won’t be enjoying the skyline), when parked in the sun will turn your car into an oven. And to that, we should add that you have to be careful where you park. Don’t recommend doing so under a palm tree for example.

Don’t know how you can spin having instant acceleration into a negative: "you just use it to brag"???. This Imbecile needs to stop reflecting.

  49. Rob Kay on April 8, 2021 at 12:09 am

The Tesla supercharger network stops at Gretna Green: after that you have access to the superb Charge Point Scotland Network: I know which I prefer north of the border.
500 mile range is a bit silly really: you are using far too much energy just moving a heavy battery from a>b. What matters isn’t range,it is efficiency.

  50. Daniel Zajic on April 8, 2021 at 12:12 am

EV torque never gets boring, at least not after 8 years anyway, in my experience.
