Legislators moving to legalize retail cannabis, dispensaries in Texas

Lawmakers in the Texas House and Senate are moving to legalize the sale of retail cannabis is Texas through almost a half dozen bills. The longshot bills face a hostile Senate, and precedent where possessing over 2.5 ounces of the drug can result in jailtime. While the bills might be impractical, lawmakers behind them say it’s about normalizing the drug and starting a conversation.

  4. Everything Pc on September 12, 2021 at 11:39 pm

One of Dan Patrick’s biggest donors is the pharmaceutical industry. Of course he’s going to say no to cannabis legalization because it’s a much better medicine than most pharmaceuticals and those companies would lose billions if pot was legalized nation wide

Texas makes more money putting and keeping people in jail for marijuana that’s why is still illegal

  10. I’m the Ice King on September 12, 2021 at 11:42 pm

It’s legal in Houston but not closer to the borders which I think is dumb because The majority of cannabis that crosses the border is sold near it.πŸ™„ Kill two birds with one stone make a lot of money and take out cartel groups

Still trying to get answers…IF legalized. How does 1 person smoke on a Friday or Saturday knowing it will still be in the system by Monday and not lose their jobs?

I agree with legalization, I don’t agree with property owners being forced to allow it on leased properties. It should be up to landlords to decide if cannabis should be allowed on the property they manage.

Its not going to happen. At least not now. Weed is the catalyst for oppression mostly targeted at minorities. It is the ultimate tool used by the justice system from the courts down to law enforcement. Weed or to properly say it, drug offenses is the number one money maker of privately own prisons, bail bondsmen and parole officers. Drugs is also power over employees. Employers tend to use so called random drug test to subdue or get rid of the bad and even good employees who dose a good job, but speaks up when they feel abused. Without this tool of oppression, Texas would no longer be called the fuck you state or al least on the avenue of legalized marijuana. Seems like Texas is more interested in allowing a 21 year old to buy a handgun without a permit and with absolutely no training. They are fine with allowing alcohol sales on Sundays only for revenue purposes… In a state that has the most DUI incidents that includes death. Of all the dangerous things out there Greg Abbott once said he will not legalize marijuana because, get this, "I am concerned that people will overdose on marijuana". They wont give us what we want. If conflicts with thier own interest with power over the people which is the dark power of oppression…It makes too many people rich, particularly the ones who are mechanisms of the justice system.

  27. Dbuckdragon on September 13, 2021 at 12:03 am

I was born and raised in Texas and i’ve long been proud to claim myself as a texan and love practically everything about it but i’ll be damned if there’s one thing i’m ashamed of with this state it’s its ridiculously strict laws on cannabis! We’re so far behind with progression on weed it’s beyond what embarrassment can put into words smh. I suffer from epilepsy and i feel like weed helps tremendously with it as far as with having auras but unfortunately my access to it relies on illegally obtaining it. I’m not desperate enough by any means to move to a state with legal marijuana to be able to have access to it. I do take other prescription meds that help my condition but ultimately i’d prefer to use something more natural and organic, plus i know it eventually will make it in place it’s just a more timely matter for us texans. It’s not a matter of if, it’s just when, but until that day comes i guess we’re just gonna keep taking tiny baby steps unfortunately

  28. ChuyJr Torres on September 13, 2021 at 12:04 am

That medical marijuana card is wHt Texas needs….

  36. J Fowler on September 13, 2021 at 12:18 am

I’m always amazed that so called β€œpatriots” can be so comfortable with the idea that the government should be able to dictate what an adult should be able to choose to consume.

You are either pro legalization and decriminalization…Or an unAmerican scumbag who opposes personal liberty. There is no middle ground.

    Grow up.

  37. Thee Annabel Lee on September 13, 2021 at 12:18 am

They need to hurry tf up fr. If any state needs weed, its Texas. We literally sell EVERYTHING for smoking weed but we cant have the weed…theyre fucking with us.

That don’t mean nothing it’s not coming to texas to many racist peaple down here but guns and gambling is cool that’s messed up

  42. ernie page on September 13, 2021 at 12:23 am

This way they get a % of the profits instead of allowing the profits to go into the community. Never happen with our Gov and Lt. Gov in office. They would have to release alot of inmates licked up just for cannabis possession.
