80% for everybody for Universal Healthcare๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ. Love from Australia where it is 2% of taxable income. You know America was the can do country, now known as the "Can’t Do it Here" country.

Artificial Inflation of Medical Bills by medical corporations is for profits. Actual costs are much lower. Fault Medical Corp.

    Uhhh…

The rich don’t pay more taxes like rich Bill Maher just said. They LEGALLY hide their money offshore and pay next to no taxes…Maher.

Truly amazing that the audience applauded when the progressive spoke. She was completely wrong. How can people not see this?
The systems are broken.. therefore we need to add more aspects of the system??? Insane. We need to look at the problems regulation has cause, and strip it away. Get the money where it needs to go!!!!

    Good show. She seemed unhinged.

Marianne is a very smart person and she has some eye-opening ideas. Bill should let his guests speak more. Both were interesting tonight.

Social medicine works because the govt Iis large enough to hold big pharma AND the insurancies companies to a fair and still profitable price. If you’d let her talk she might have said that. They currently work with each other to price gauge. There is a medication.price list that gets updated annual by every single hospital. They work together to pay each other and raise prices much higher than they should be. Example $500 Tylenol for 2 pills.

I do not want to live in Vivek Ramaswamy’s anarcho-capitalist/paleolibertarian nightmare. He uses the words of Hans Hermann Hoppe (Democracy: The God That Failed) AND Steve Bannon (Breitbart) to forward the incredibly toxic and unproven ideology currently being lapped up on the Right. He even got very close to the "Greed is Good" mantra that led to the Financial Collapse. Sorry, not falling for the "You can trust us. If you’d just take away all the regulations and regulators – everything would turn out great" thing again.

Bill Maher’s analysis that laid a good portion of the blame on hospital administration greedy profit seeking policies is on point. All u have to do is ask someone who works in healthcare and they would tell u

This show lacks a conservative point of view. I watched the whole show and Bidens name never came up once but lots of jabs at Trump. No one tired of this yet. Bring back Ben Shapiro please these conversation need testing. Bill show turning into the View over the last few years.

While Bill talked about the โ€œprofit motiveโ€ in healthcare, all I could hear in my head was โ€œnationalize hospitals nationalize hospitals nationalize hospitalsโ€ and then 9:19 happens lol. This was truly one of Billโ€™s best shows and moments! Thank you for such an engaging show Bill!

  15. James Matthew Neeland on February 13, 2022 at 10:56 pm

Much as Delta & Omicron were weaker variants of the novel coronavrius, COVID-19, Vivek Ramaswamy is the weaker variant of Dinesh D’Souza, only with a brighter, whiter smile and more agreeable tactics ("Oh, you and I are in agreement, absolutely"….. "I liked you better than the other candidates", among other panders.) What he’s peddling may seem like high-minded analysis of the pressing issue when in reality it’s general-issue, albeit contrived, culture-war taking-points clap-trap designed to conflate good corporate stewardship in the manner of such outrageous subterfuge as, oh, celebrating Black History Month or recruiting from formerly unrecognized talent/labor pools, notably Latino, in an attempt to (Here’s comes a dirty word – you’ve been warned) diversify its ranks and roster. Heavens. Not all successful employment outreach is "quota." Particularly in a nation with a near-fifty-percent demographic split of (non-traditional) non-white citizens. And not everything that benefits a nation is going to be a profit-making venture. Capitalism is a wonderful method for exploring and unleashing the dynamism of man’s creativity, and entrepreneurship is among the highest of economic endeavors. Yet even capitalism, even a profit on your investment, and all its power to unleash the best, and often the worst, mankind is able to conceive has its limits, and often its excesses must be contained. And someone like Vivek grasps that. He just can’t acknowledge it, or his entire ideological tower comes a-crashin’ down, along with the newly-smelted ‘wokeness’-as-public-enemy-number-one rebar. He further conflates economic issues with this straw man set to a roasting fire by equating it to be the root-&-branch of middle-class angst and agony. Right….So, the middle-class in this country have been squeezed for the past forty years (thank you ‘trickle-down’) and can no longer survive on stagnant wages coupled with through-the-roof housing prices (which had been the problem long before 2008, as he referenced that period as a marker in one instance), because, oh, NASCAR, of all institutions, recognizes Pride month? It’s sleight-of-hand, grand-unified "theory" stuff(ing) that claims to offer a solution when all it offers is nothing more than tired ‘Libertarian’ constructs now glued to the popular ‘woke’ hysteria. That’s his gimmick with "Woke, Inc." The ideological leap is that you, regular guy & gal, are being held-back by the Leftists who have taken-hostage America’s corporations. The prescription is to "heal the culture", so sayeth Vivek. (How? Florida-style "Don’t Say Gay" legislation sweepin’ the nation? Texas and Tennessee-style book-bannings and other good, ol’ fashioned, homespun ‘conservative’ initiatives? Hey, once we drop that Roe, just watch the ‘healing’ commence.) No, that’s not the prescription – that’s the diagnosis. The prescription is to help the boots-on-the-ground get-by while dealing with totally unfetttered for-profit fervor. And that takes regulation. That takes government to separate civil society from the unabashed money-grabs of plutocratic capitalism. Ironically so…..Think rural electrification prior to 1934. There also is much to be examined about how other nations regulate food and beverages for fat, sugar and sodium content and cap-off medical torts at a certain amount, things that may not go-over well in a federal system like ours with a strong individualistic temperment and historic cynicism towards government involvement, on our way to designing a system of universal health coverage. Just a few things to consider. And what is Vivek’s solution? To get government "out-of the way" with a (cue laugh track) medical voucher program, a la Paul Ryan. Sure, Grandma, take your $5K, and hunt for insurance coverage on the open market. Five-thousand dollars won’t cover a single overnight in a hospital, whether age 80 or 18. Medical coding. Medical billing. Redundancy after mindless administrative redundancy. (Let’s not forget about that deductible.) Vivek actually patted himself on the back after he dropped this non-profundity with "That’ll get us most of the way there." To where, exactly? Bankruptcy court? There are many things to be said/written about the over-indulgence and admitted absurdities of some far-Left cheerleading, yet embracing the ‘new paradigm’ of Vivek Ramaswamy’s treatise on America-being-screwed-by-virtue-of-adopting-‘wokeness’ (?) is neither a societal or economic template. It’s crass, paint-by-numbers culture-war retreading, conflating economic woes with increased visibility for formerly marginalized persons (and, as a gay man, I know a little something about that) – a theoretical dead end. He’s banking on the unpopularity of corporate control as galvanizer for both the Left and the Right while jumping-on the bandwagon of the perception of ‘wokeness’ as a national cancer of some sort, and the most malignant at that. It’s a melding that doesn’t work. (Oh, and in a congressional election year. The BOOK. How implausibly convenient.) He pops-up regularly on Fox, addressing everything from education to climate change and, of course, wedding it to his overarching government = bad, now made worse with those gays & lesbians in positions of power. Yep. He is the living embodiment of that meme which reads (paraphrasing): Everybody’s in favor of small government…..until YOUR town is underwater.

  16. Berni V on February 13, 2022 at 10:57 pm

Europe is not free-riding the USA. It is absolutely ridiculous to say that. The USA is destroying the world with it’s demonic free market capitalist greed. We have free health care but the greedy American bully wants to destroy our free health service and replace it with the dollar. Europe is in despair with you American dunderheids. That is the truth of the matter.

  17. First Last on February 13, 2022 at 10:59 pm

The people most often talking about separating big-bad government from free market capitalism are the ones who want deregulation but lobby for every tax-avoiding loopholeโ€”$trillion tax cutโ€”& multi-$billion government contract. One-person-one-vote Democracy has to have power over the market. A market can only be free if a free democracy is truly present & functioning. But an unregulated market that creates monopolistic & oligopolistic winners will destroy a democracy & the supposed freedom of the very market itself.
Medicare for All is already proven to be cheaper than the current healthcare expenses of the US today. And healthcare expenses would be that high if education were truly comprehensive & universalโ€”as were economic & job opportunities. More people would live healthier lives that would reduce healthcare costs in the long run & as a whole if more people were given the opportunity to learn how to create new lanes of innovation to work for themselves & or widen the lanes already available. #COLLEGEforALL means #POWERforALL thru #KNOWLEDGEforALL thru #EDUCATIONforALL thru #CriticalThinkingForALL thru #TheScientificMethodForALL.

  18. bkit5 on February 13, 2022 at 10:59 pm

Hospitals shouldnโ€™t be for profit because they will want to overrun the beds? Go look at socialised healthcare in Canada all be are full and have to wait because they donโ€™t have adequate beds because government runs on a budget not for profits.

Marianne Williamson is delusional and completely removed from reality.

  20. Jason Watson on February 13, 2022 at 11:04 pm

I agree that this was the best show in a while. Nobody is mentioning the interview with Ricky Williams. I thought that was very informative as well!

  21. Patty Tracey on February 13, 2022 at 11:05 pm

Bill = stop defending the corporations. Get rid of Citizen’s united and get money out of politics and then BOOM suddenly we will be able to afford Universal health care. We need to stop the War machine and we will be able to afford everything we need.

  22. Gr8flGrrl on February 13, 2022 at 11:05 pm

Thank you for a meaningful conversation about the real issues and problems we face instead of the usual cultural and political divisions.

Iโ€™m with Marianne on insurance. Health insurance is the biggest scam going. The cost to individuals bares absolutely no relationship to their consumption of the service/product. So healthier people like myself end up subsidizing the cost of unhealthy people who wonโ€™t or canโ€™t take better care of themselves.

Every year my premiums keep climbing in spite of the fact that Iโ€™ve only set foot in a doctorโ€™s office once in the past 25 years and that was 17 years ago. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

What if we abolish health insurance and let people use the money they save by not paying exorbitant premiums to pay for direct care and allow the market to drive the cost instead of artificially inflated prices set by insurance reimbursements?

Better yet, why donโ€™t we take some of the government corporate welfare handouts to hospitals and Pharma and invest it in educational programs that teach people how to live healthier and give them access to real whole foods instead of the cheap processed garbage that is made widely available to low income people and people in general? That way they donโ€™t need to rely on doctors and medication and health care (which should really be called what it is: sick care) wonโ€™t be a big issue anymore!

I have been saying for 50 years (yeah, I am old) that I don’t mind paying taxes if the money goes where it should…aka: NOT into the pockets of the already filthy rich, instead of onto works that benefit WE The People. Like school improvements, low-cost house, mental healthcare, drug rehab assistance, universal healthcare, infrastructure maintenance & improvement, cleaner energy projects, job training programs, …my list goes on…and, yeah, I’m a rational progressive. Like Bill claims to be.

I broke my leg here in Canada yesterday. Went to hospital, had 4 nurses looking after me, a great doctor, had multiple xrays, a ct scan to check for internal bleeds as my blood pressure was low. Got casted up. Will see fracture clinic Tuesday and be monitored regularly for issues (I am a quadriplegic). At the end my bill will be $0.00

  27. Lynn Ross on February 13, 2022 at 11:11 pm

Iโ€™m surprised Bill had Vivek on. Heโ€™s not a Lefty!! Heโ€™s a Fox Contributor ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. This was a good discussion. Actually Mary Ann was on Gutfeld a few weeks ago. The Pharmaceutical companies make so much more money than the hospitals. They RULE the healthcare industry. They lobby our entire Congress. You want to talk about GRAFT?! Ha! And it goes for both parties. Itโ€™s disgusting. And so much corruption in Medicare and Medicaid. And look whatโ€™s going on with illegals coming into our country. 2 million came in this year! Guess what?? They are all getting FREE MEDICAL! Then Bill wonders where his tax dollars go? Ha! And forget Socialized medicine! Ppl in Canada come here if they need good health care! Mick Jagger came to NYC for heart surgery! I rest my case your honor.

  28. Michelle Frost on February 13, 2022 at 11:13 pm

Do people want free healthcare? Yes. Will they like it? No.
Rationed healthcare is not quality healthcare. 2 years for a knee replacement. Weeks to see your GP. Months to see a specialist. That may not sound bad until you have serious health problems. So of course young people think thatโ€™s the way to go.

  29. Janelle Gard on February 13, 2022 at 11:13 pm

When I researched where the money comes from to back BAIL BONDS, and found out from major INSURANCE COMPANIES….ENOUGH SAID! The most corrupt behind way too much…๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคจ

  30. Ken E on February 13, 2022 at 11:13 pm

Bill got fooled by the "crunching the numbers" story! Every great country has free health care but they don’t tax 80%

  31. Christos Ioannidis on February 13, 2022 at 11:15 pm

Bill! do you really believe the polls on Trump? Their all fake. TRUMP 2024!!!

  32. Malik Shabazz on February 13, 2022 at 11:16 pm

    great episode!

  33. dorfman jones on February 13, 2022 at 11:16 pm

These are astute criticisms but they’re all over the map. You need to start out with a simple proposition. Your health should not be determined by your wealth. Health care should be disconnected from profit. The next step is to figure out a system that delivers affordable quality healthcare for every citizen. See how Europe does it. Cherry pick the best aspects and amalgamate them into a proposal for the citizens. Tell us what it will mean for us tax-wise. Put it up to a plebiscite, meaning bypass congress, which is bought and paid for by big pharma and insurance interests. One person, one vote. My mom, an American tourist, broke her leg in Paris. They ambulanced her to a hospital, x-rayed it, and then set it, and sent her on her way. They accepted no payment. The French pay for that. If we want that here we need to set it up and pay for it. People are people and money is money.

    Simple universal healthcare wont work

  39. Tom Breckinridge on February 13, 2022 at 11:19 pm

Every other democratic country in the world can afford universal healthcare. Itโ€™s idiotic to think it canโ€™t be done here.

  40. Jim Baker on February 13, 2022 at 11:21 pm

Making healthcare a for profit industry is what is killing usโ€ฆ..we are getting gouged left and right for medicines, cares and services that should be given to us at a fraction of the cost.

  41. HubbaBubba on February 13, 2022 at 11:22 pm

Your state and local government should get the lion’s share of the taxes you pay. State and local governments should be over their own social programs. The federal government should only have the powers granted by the constitution as stated in the 10th Amendment, and should require the Article V process to be expanded. Not only will this create a competition between states to create good economies, but it also puts them in competition to attract citizens. It also isn’t ethical to expect a well run state to subsidize the mismanagement of other states.

  42. Mushy Pork on February 13, 2022 at 11:22 pm

People should really start making a distinction between capitalism and free market.

  43. James Nelson on February 13, 2022 at 11:22 pm

Hard to watch this with the incredible misinformation around the 1:30 mark regarding taxes. BIll incorrectly states that he is paying over half his income in taxes because he is in the 39% tax bracket plus California’s 13% tax. Does he not know that we have a marginal tax rate or is this purposefully misleading?

  44. Cjdoy on February 13, 2022 at 11:28 pm

Our healthcare system will be fixed when we let Congress fend for themselves for their own healthcare.

  45. brian wilcox on February 13, 2022 at 11:30 pm

born 01/15/60 I have had a few kindred spirits I would trade souls with on their own subject. Dan Fogelberg for love songs. Stevie Ray Vaughn for rock and roll. Bill Maher for politics , until lately. Fast and loose with facts on prepared statements. COVID 19 mitigation exhaustion ? Bill’s (along with most overly privileged entities) downfall will be hubris. Non-COVID i.e. "MTV no longer plays music". MTV has at least 4 channels that play music videos 24/7 by genre. I live in Dallas and haven’t been able to watch the Cowboys play for many years. I’m afraid RealTime has assumed that same position with me.

  46. Flanamac on February 13, 2022 at 11:37 pm

Unfortunately told the higher billing rates lie to close the show. No one questioned the veracity. Unfortunate, because it was abive average.

  47. Cavanagh and Willis on February 13, 2022 at 11:38 pm

I hope you see this post Maryanne Williamson. You have made such a huge contribution to society with your past books, video, audio, and public speaking regarding spiritual matters and in particular, related to "The Course in Miracles".ย

I think you have a big heart and yet there are some things that you are blind to and therefore do not consider in your political views. PLEASE invest a couple of weeks learning about the precious gift the U.S. was given through the beautiful ideals of the Declaration of Independence and the genius of the U.S. republic and how it is supposed to be run according to the Constitution. Out history has not been perfect, but pretty darn good (at least until the last few decades) it is the story of a country seeking perfection and the brightest light that the masses had ever seen.ย You are very intelligent but you ARE NOT as wise as the cluster of geniuses that produced these documents and figured all of these things out.

Now there is a lot of corruption in the system. That doesn’t mean we should tear it down though with Communist and Socialist ideas that have a terrible track record. We need your heart PLUS wisdom to take the corruption out of the system and go back to ideals and policies that made the U.S. a place where people from all over the world wanted to live and provided more freedom to the people than had ever been known.

You have a lot to offer and the world needs you – with an update that gets us the benefits of responsible freedom and capitalism (and equal protection under the law (that’s a veryย
Constitutional idea that has been corrupted) – nobody gets any favored status – including corporations and rich folks and including the cronies of the Republicans AND the Democrats) – not a retrograde to political and economic policies that lead to slavery and despotism.

It’s easy to find the atrocities and hardships created by Communist China, Communist Russia, Communist North Korea, Communist Cambodia, the socialism of Argentina and the socialism that Mussolini and Hitler started with, etc. and etc..ย

Time to take the next step Maryanne.
