Meet The Republican Congresswoman Who Believes Cannabis Legalization Is Good for America | Forbes
“There’s a million reasons to end federal prohibition and the only place where this is controversial is up here,” says Mace. “It’s an enormously popular idea. America is like: ‘WTF, D.C., why have you not done this yet?’”
In November, the 44-year-old freshman Congresswoman, who represents South Carolina’s coastal swing district spanning Charleston to Hilton Head, introduced the States Reform Act, a bill that would end the federal government’s 85-year prohibition on marijuana. Mace is certainly not the first politician to introduce a cannabis legalization bill, although it’s been impossible to get one passed by both chambers of Congress.
But Mace already has one of the most powerful conservative groups in the world in her corner: Charles Koch’s Americans for Prosperity. And now she has one of the world’s largest companies supporting her bill: Amazon.
In June, the retail giant announced that it would exclude marijuana from most of its employee drug testing and started lobbying to legalize cannabis. Six months later, the company met with Mace and now says it will support her States Reform Act. “They don’t want to sell it,” Mace says, noting that employment is the driving force behind the support. “It opens up the hiring pool by about 10%.” Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president of public policy, adds: “This bill offers comprehensive reform that speaks to the emergence of a bipartisan consensus to end the federal prohibition of cannabis.”

The banned the wrong plant! Tobacco has killed and Marijuana has killed no one! Tobacco causes cancer, Marijuana retards cancer, so who should be illegal here?
Only two doctors testified at the hearings for the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 – the deviously named legislation enacting marijuana prohibition. The representative of the American Medical Association said there was no evidence that marijuana was a dangerous drug and no reason to prohibit it. He pointed out that it was used in hundreds of common medicines with no significant reports of problems.
In response, the committee told him that if he wasn’t going to cooperate, he should shut up and leave.
The only other doctor to testify was Dr. James C. Munch. His sole claim to fame was that he had injected some extract of cannabis directly into the brains of 300 dogs and two of them died. When they asked him what he concluded from this, he said he didn’t know what to conclude.
Dr. Munch later testified in court, under oath, that marijuana would make your incisors grow six inches long and drip with blood. He also said that, when he tried it, it turned him into a bat.
Dr. Munch was the only doctor in the US who thought marijuana should be illegal so he was appointed US Official Expert on marijuana, where he served for 25 years.
They did not create it…..therefore why are they able to govern it….playing God to me. LEGALIZE this plant that has been used for THOUSANDS of years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nancy Maces story here is not only brave about her childhood past, I respect the FK out of her for someone finally speaking up about this issue of how messed up childhood rape traumas can be on a human level. This story rings so true and echos throughout not just the USA but across the globe. Support this to the fullest and get our people moving and talking again. It doesn’t have to be so hard for people. We lose so many to suicides every year because people can’t handle things with the way the system is designed! I too have been there. Please support this for not only our vets but others that can not get the right help that fits better to there lives. Thank you.
THIS COULD BE AMERICA’S NEW CASH CROP….BILLIONS OF DOLLARS THE GOVERNMENT COULD BE GETTING IN TAXES….IT’S STUPID THEY DON’T LEGALIZE IT….!!!!
She’s scrambling to win over voters after she alienated the MAGA base. But criticism aside, any progress on this issue is positive. I support it. End the prohibition.
So sick of it being illegal and I’m Republican.
I also support the States Reform Act.
Please! Just let us smoke freely! "USA LAND OF THE FREE" 🇺🇸
As long as its organic
Legalize it
MedMen to launch its global trademark licensing program beginning in Florida.
Buy as much as you can. Medmen will be the next McDonald’s. MMNFF
Do it. I want my freedom back. Get rid of theses old fucks in office that oppose freedom.
brilliant <3
Republican Senators and Representatives are the problem.
Omg a intelligent politician!!!
GOOD TO HEAR 😁😁
Can’t everyone just start rioting again and get this legalized fully … please 🙂
This is glaring proof our political system is completely broken. What a joke. Legalize it
Been waiting incarcerated twice for simple possession of cannabis
BIG PHARMA IS OUT TO STOP CANNABIS WORSE THAN IT IS OUT TO STOP IVERMECTIN, AND ALL THE OTHER INEXPENSIVE COVID DRUGS!!
POLITICIANS SUPPORT THIS BILL!!!
this definitely need to pass🍃
Why is it controversial? Pot is legal to buy in DC. Political hypocrites. I used cannabis to get free from pain meds.
I will be growing my own cannabis until I can’t no more. I love Cannabis. I love smoking, growing, and learning about the plant. I also love the fact that it aids in retaining memories and knowledge from an event of recent. It brought back the memory and helped me unplug from the simulated reality we live in. It uses AI to control humans, however, "it" also re wires our brains while sleeping, hence "REM". We are biologically enhanced by a civilization on a sun orbiting planet, unknown to most humans. However, we are being simulated or controlled by another civilization that was already here. When they arrived over 2000 years ago from this planet, there was a clash due to the planets gravitational pull and impact on the Earth and Moon-(AI satellite to monitor, control the effects of the planet).
Then, the flood occurred wiping out many of the humans who were here. The Sun orbiting planet left the vicinity of Earth and headed back towards its farther than usual orbit, most likely outside of our galaxy and/or solar system.
The intelligence the visitors gifted humans with minimally remained. However, enough remained to begin again. This time, with us being observed for our intelligence and/or controlled for some unknown reason.
This prior entity/species either knew or learned that electronics, phones and anything AI allows for easier control over the human race.
Then come search databases, ride share platforms, cell phones, AI algorithms, robots, Alexa, etc.
There is a reason everything is done through a phone or online.
There is a reason you have "glitches in the matrix", see things, dream, see UFOs, feel things, hear things, see things, shadow people(which most people have seen)*primarily at night
If you dig deep enough, ask enough questions, ask the scam callers or "telemarketers" that you know what they are or ask them about a simulation. I’m serious. See what they say and how they react. You ever see something dissappear? Have missing time? Sleep really late for no reason. All these things are hints. Not proof for your brain.
You can find it if you look.
Problem is, most people that read this or hear this from me will be pre-programmed to not take action or seek answers. If you do, you’ll get distracted or give up and not pursue anything.
Cannabis won’t be legal for another 20 years
So I need EVERY, show room light on at five a.m. to eleven. Is that not just obvious.
This is your brain on drugs.
Why don’t the Republicans and Democrats combune their marijuana bills and get the descheduled! And stop the game of telling us about the different bills that aren’t getting passed. If they can get it done. Let the people decide.
Cannabis: The only thing in the world that is a wonder drug for dying kids, but very dangerous for a mature adult 😒
"Guess what? Your base loves pot." Thanks for your advocacy, Congresswoman Mace.
#EndCannabisProhibition
Wait a second? An american politician who actually works for and cares for the people instead of beefing with their political rivals on twitter?
The government is making a huge mistake by not fully legalizing cannabis. We should avoid calling it weed, gonja, and dope. It stigmatizes this wonderful, beautiful plant that has changed and saved so many lives, such as mine. Why not create a legal system that keeps people accountable for their use so ailments can be treated in a safe fashion.
All my republican friends smoke weed
The government always thinks that they have to have their hands in everything we do.
How can we leave fossil fuels for the next generation?
Jeanne Shaheen says "I’m not interested in seeing another way for people to misuse illegal substances." — It continues to amaze me how stupid people gain public office. – Guess what, Jeanne? When we re-legalize marijuana, it’s not illegal anymore. And how in the world do you "misuse" a non-addictive, near harmless plant?
After smoking weed for two years I’m currently “detoxing” for a mandatory drug test at MEPS (Military Entrance Processing) as part of my enlistment into the United States Air Force. I’m permitted to fight and die for my country but in my FREE time if I smoke a plant that brings about positive psychological and physical effects I might as well be a Russian agent in the eyes of the federal government, the same squares I’ll be taking an oath to defend. Absolutely ridiculous. It’s permissible to smoke cigarettes that upon the advertised packaging explicitly state that “cigarettes contain carbon monoxide”, the same chemicals found in that of a car engine or drink alcohol until my livers falls out, but again, if I smoke weed I must be a dangerous criminal who has nothing but ill intentions. While smoking pot I’ve never gotten into an altercation, I’ve actually been significantly more positive in my outward appearance and actions to others. However, when I’m drunk or what have you it’s the complete opposite. People in support of prohibition are a walking double standard with limited to no information regarding the functionalities of marijuana and inherently impede upon the civil liberties of others to make INDIVIDUAL decisions. Legalize marijuana. If you don’t like it, don’t smoke it. Stop forcing people to comply with your junk science in favor of substances that will quite literally kill them.
do i see a future presidential candidate???? i think i do
Only person you have to worry about is that clown Biden. He sees Republicans supporting it also he’ll veto it
I voted R the last two elections, and I won’t vote for anyone in the future until I see a promise to Legalize It. Innocent Americans are in jail for pursuing happiness
I wish more Republicans like her would come out and support cannabis legalization and freedom.
She speaks the truth – cannabis has helped me on a physical and mental level during my tough times.
❤ 👍
She is not the only Republican! Mike Minardi HD59 Florida is running for election and is ahead in the polls. He will win!…Mike is a Cannabis Attorney who has the legal mind to get Cannabis Reform thru …Mike Minardi HD59! Mike will be President one day! He is the only one I trust not to mess it up.
I smoked for 12 years, and recently stopped. I’m now 3 months sober and I will tell you it SUCKS. Smoking weed makes EVERYTHING better, it makes your body function better, makes you feel good, just everything is better high. I wish I didn’t have to stop for my job. It’s a total invasion of privacy to drug test anyone for anything!
We needed it years ago politicians need to be scared enough to know they work for the citizens
treat it just like alcohol and tobbacco. It’s a joke that it’s still on the same level as heroin.
I love chocolate, doesn’t mean I can eat it every day all day
Look at it this way if we had access to a substance that wasn’t so harmful like marijuana I could probably see the humongous meth epidemic that we have here in Kansas go down also alcoholism because this substance marijuana doesn’t hit us that hard like alcohol does I mean you can still use this stuff and go about your day normally provided an extra bag of chips
Whoa, she went deep. I admire her honesty and the real way she approaches the seriousness of the topic.
