How Australia's most radical cannabis laws are coping two years later | ABC In-Depth

FYI: This story contains content that may be distressing to some viewers, if you or someone you know is struggling call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

People in the Australian Capital Territory have been able to use, possess and grow cannabis for nearly two years. The radical laws were introduced to steer people away from the criminal justice system, but a growing number of people are using the laws to produce their own medicinal cannabis.

The ABC reporting on a greens led jurisdiction. They must be in rainbows and lolly pop land.. Any articles questioning why Australia is under a full country health crisis that only started in the months after the big pharma globalist jabs were rolled out that you helped guilt trip and force on to the naive Australian population with lies??.. Oh thatโ€™s right you are STILL promoting them. Any articles on ivermectin yet or is it still a horse paste and to treat scabies???.. Didnโ€™t think so. The ABC stopped reporting for Australia a long long time ago. I makes me sick that I have no choice but to fund this inner city elite propaganda channel. I should be able to opt out!!

Genuinely still no clue why alcohol is legal and cannabis isnt

  12. Sam Day on September 10, 2022 at 6:22 am

Canberrans would have had a tough couple of years growing outdoors, as weโ€™ve had a succession of La Nina events. This means high rainfall and humidity. Cannabis is prone to fungal infection, particularly close to harvest time when the plantโ€™s flowers are dense. Mouldy Cannabis is unusable.

If you drink a litre of whiskey daily and hurt people around you then you get sympathy in court.

If you smoke hard drugs and cry about it you get sympathy in court.

If you grow your own weed and keep to yourself. The police will knock your house down and you’ll get no sympathy in court. Its insane.

This politician wants people on medical weed to profit the industry but we don’t want that. Its gods gift we should should grow our own. Its therapeutic itself just growing it. Exciting counting down the days till harvest and starting again.

Horticulture is a ancient hobby. I want to know exactly what I’m smoking. I want to breed my own strains and get dirt deep into the genetics of it all. It’s s good hobby and keeps me active. Learning and distracted from my own mind going 1000mph against me.

I can instead follow other people’s grow diary learn from them. Use their advice in my own grow what works what doesn’t work.

2 plants under one certified safe LED light is all I want. UK fall in.

Bangkok has and I swear they sent people to the firing squad over it afew years ago.

I’m almost ready to just give in and drink whiskey all day see what happens.

  26. gavin b on September 10, 2022 at 6:41 am

the only reason its not legal is the government don’t know how to tax it when people can grow it in there own homes. even people in the government have said this

  27. Bluey2shoes on September 10, 2022 at 6:43 am

I had a bad previous life and I used all sorts tried most things to stop feeling what I was but using cannabis relaxes all my stresses in life. Chills me out instead of thinking negative and wanting to rip someoneโ€™s head off. Iโ€™ll rather grow than pay money to someone selling it 3rd hand and itโ€™s like a lucky dip and most the time it tastes crap. I donโ€™t drink I donโ€™t do anything else all I do is spend time with my dogs go for walks and smoke cannabis. Such a lovely life but itโ€™s against the law lol something that Iv done for 10 yrs and I KNOW IT WORKS FOR MEโ€ฆ. BUT DOCTORS STILL WANT YOU TO TAKE DEPRESSANT TABLETS THAT DONT WORK ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I want to grow two plants at home ide be sweet. 12oz from two plants ide grow once per year.

  29. Ajay Fernandes on September 10, 2022 at 6:44 am

Cannabis users have been demonized since the late 1930s. Successive governments have been bribed by lobbists for almost 100 years and have destroyed the lives of millions of people solely for greed and personal gain by forcing sick people to use poisons sold by Big Pharma.

  30. Bruce Murray on September 10, 2022 at 6:44 am

I have legal permission to use Cannabis to improve my appetite after having my stomach removed because of cancer. But living in Victoria it is not legal or me to grow Cannabis so I can only source it through the exorbitant commercial supply.

A friend of mine smokes an Oz per month, another friend can cultivate max 1 oz per plant under lights. That means 12 plants a year. What’s the max limit per person can grow? Can you grow 12 in 1 legit season?

  33. Zz Zzzz on September 10, 2022 at 6:46 am

People get paranoid because its illegal, legalised it and for the people be responsible user. Mj is for positivity not for stupidity

  34. Uncle Phil on September 10, 2022 at 6:47 am

The problem with decriminalising drugs is the question of supply. If, say, Ice was decriminalised in small amounts for personal use, where do the users get their supply? From illegal dealers. So, you are effectively incentivising those dealers to be criminals. I’m not sure that supporting the worst organised criminal gangs is a great idea. Why not decriminalise supply and tightly regulate it (and tax it and use those funds for rehab services), if you’re going to decriminalise use? At least we can then take a whole and huge part of international organised crime out. Either it’s illegal, or it’s not. These stupid half-arsed laws don’t make anything better.

  35. John Smith on September 10, 2022 at 6:48 am

Medicine! Grow her own medicine! Absolutely hilarious, ridiculous! Missing a few brain cells, obviously…

  36. The German on September 10, 2022 at 6:51 am

I grew a few plants in my backyard for several years in NSW in clear view of my neighbours in their units, not a problem! ๐Ÿคฃ

  37. Lee Moshos-Churches on September 10, 2022 at 6:51 am

i’ll never understand how a PLANT. literally just a plant with no environmental negatives. a PLANT is illegal. but they can prescribe amphetamines to kids with adhd. like ther’s nothing wrong with that example in particular but the fact these things are allowed but WEED isn’t… it’s just ridiculous to me

  38. Mark Marsden on September 10, 2022 at 6:53 am

The only reason these politicians are decriminalising drugs "only in act" (were the politicians and their kids live) and not country wide is because their kids keep getting caught with them…. Corrupt system led by corrupt individuals and policies if you ask me

  41. Vape Lsd Shroom Dmt Available legalthccartstore on September 10, 2022 at 6:56 am

They’re not completely risk free, but they carry a small fraction of the risk of cigarettes. E-cigarettes do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, two of the most harmful elements in tobacco smoke. The liquid and vapour contain some potentially harmful chemicals also found in cigarette smoke, but at much lower levels.

  42. Tim Lowe on September 10, 2022 at 6:56 am

  45. As-if If-as on September 10, 2022 at 6:59 am

Kids sell weed in UK. The govt prefers it that way. The kiddy mafia need business too. Who cares if they running each other through.

Who cares if they get trapped with weed its just weed. To owing money and being packed with hard drugs to shift instead to their school mates.

    Who cares. Nobody cares.

  46. Simon Simon on September 10, 2022 at 6:59 am

What’s the point of decriminalising something, then making it almost impossible to acquire. Just make your minds up, legal or illegal.

  47. B Sway on September 10, 2022 at 7:00 am

No Iโ€™m sorry but bonging on every day is not healthy no matter what anyone says. If thatโ€™s what youโ€™re doing then you need to stop kidding yourself that itโ€™s medicinal. That second dude smoking the bongs is clearly abusing it and using mental issues as an excuse. Marijuana exacerbates mental illness, it doesnโ€™t make it better.
