Marijuana and the Young Brain

Jodi Gilman, PhD, is the director of neuroscience at the Center for Addiction Medicine. Her research examines how marijuana affects the teen brain. Her team’s research has shown that the level of memory decline from marijuana is dependent on the age at which a young person begins using. She notes that this is a matter of public health concern as marijuana use has been shown to affect learning and has been strongly linked to the development of psychotic disorder.

    My experience:
Im 16 years old and a junior in high school. I always wanted to try weed but didnt have te nerve until today when one of my friends told me “i got a surprise” so we went to the restroom and he told me how to use a vape pen by holding the button and all that stuff. Keep in mind this was my first time also. I take a hit and he says “just one?” Then my retarded self says fuck it and hits it 5 times. My friend has done this multiple times so he’s experienced in this and stuff. We then walk out into the building were we hang out and are talking with our other friends. Then out of nowhere it hits me and i was like “woah” my friends already knew what we did and were asking questions and i was like yea like mumbling and shit. I go to 4th period thinking im ok and then it hits me harder and im like “holy shit im gonna fucking die” i was sooo paranoid and time was going really fast i was getting scared thinking i was gonna die and shit. Then class ends and i go to the restrooom and stay there for 2 hours ditching my classes just sitting there waiting it out. I was tripping balle and shit getting lost and day dreaming i was fucked as fuck. The bell rings 2 hours laters (1 minute felt like 6030 years) no cap and it rings i stay in school a while chillin and then i go to house when i feel a little better. I eat, avoid my parents trying to hid it cuz i was paranoid as fuck. Then i eat lemon cuz it helps like an antidote and then i go shower and sleep. I will not be doing this again

Each strain effects each person differently. Find your right strain just like you’d find the right pair of seeing glasses for yourself or the right size shoe

  34. Gamercatsz on April 15, 2019 at 10:03 pm

This video did not make me happy, I started smoking pot at 13, by 17 i was smoking basicly everyday uptill now I’m 34. My memory definitly is affected, however my cognitive skills are not, I still score +125 on mensa’s abstract thinking IQ test. And I always thought I was not very intelligent as a child, so the THC might have enhanced my cognitive brainpower later in life? (I would not say that is a fact, it’s just a remark).

I’m a 17yo girl and I first smoked at 14 and didn’t smoke again until I was 16 I smoked/smoke just once to twice a week usually on the weekends or special occasions. I’m a bit of a smart person, been recorded to have an IQ in the range of 160-170 and I suffer from depression very often. Although never to the point of suicidal thoughts or anything but very close to it. Whenever I’m feeling this level of depression I usually roll a J by myself since I keep this a secret from my friends and it makes me feel better even if just for a few hours it takes away my depression. It also makes me even more creative.

  46. Joe Albano on April 15, 2019 at 10:19 pm

"strongly affect development of psychotic disorder"
Go fuck yourselves, if you are prone to a psychotic disorder, a mere car accident can cause you do see symptoms of psychosis.
People who aren’t prone or at risk of psychotic disorders will never see symptoms of it, no matter how much they smoke.

  47. NVSCLR on April 15, 2019 at 10:20 pm

I smoked weed and eventually got hppd from psych use but was triggered by weed 😂 now ain’t that a bitch. However, when I stopped smoking for a month to let the symptoms leave I did realize that moderation is the key to everything and no matter how you figure it, marijuana is bad for you in excessive amounts
