Residents in Islington, St Mary, are embracing a multimillion-dollar marijuana industry investment in their community.

Castleblack Cannabis is in the licensing phase of business and is expected to be a fully operating ganja farm.

The plantation is expected to be one of Jamaica’s largest medical marijuana businesses.

The 28-acre property will have over 100,000 sq ft of greenhouse space with 32 state of the-art greenhouses expected to be built for marijuana farming.

There will also be a 40,000 sq ft laboratory including a custom built drying and processing facility for genetics, clones, and seeds.

Research and development collaboration with the University of West Indies on the plantation.

A 15,000 square-foot main office and residence for guests and doctors.

A 10,000 sq ft Genetics and water treatment facility.

Aron Cadeau, CEO of Castleblack, out of Ontario Canada, said he hopes to create a great impact worldwide in the marijuana industry through Castleblack’s investment in Jamaica.

Cadeau said the main aim is exporting to Europe and Canada where Castleblack has sister companies.

The community has already embraced Castleblack and he is looking forward to working with them.

The investment is expected to provide full-time employment for a workforce of over 50 people, soon to grow to over 100 people once the operation is started.

Apart from farmers, who will be an active part of the business once operations start, Cadeau said the community is set to benefit in ways such as tourism.

“Tourists are going to be able to come here and do like a winery tour, like in California, for medical marijuana, and see how the plants are grown and a lot of what is earned will be going right back into the community.”

However, in the development stages residents are already benefiting, with many employed from the community.

Errol Jacky Haughton, vice-president of National Ganja Growers Association and president of the St Mary Chapter, said getting Castleblack to invest in Jamaica took hard work and dedication. He said getting an investor into St Mary was his passion.

Haughton, who is also the public relations officer for Castleblack Jamaica, said the Ganja Growers Association has been getting its members to apply to become licensed growers so they can play their part going forward.

Haughton said the process of getting companies to invest in the marijuana industry is a very tedious one.

He explained that for an overseas company to participate in the industry the law is for the Jamaican entity to have 51 per cent share in that company.

“Not only is it difficult for many Jamaicans to come up with the capital needed, but many investors do not like the arrangement,” he stated.

INJAMAICA : I AM HAPPY WITH THE JOB THAT THE PRIME MINISTER IS DOING OVER ALL.BUT I AM NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE GANJA CANNABIS/MARIJUANA TRADE.THEY ARE MOVING TOO SLOW AT SNAIL PASTE.THEY ARE NOT CAPITALIZING ON THE LUCRATIVE MARKET THAT IS TAKING PLACE RIGHT NOW. CANADA MAKING BILLIONS,COLUMBIA MAKING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS,35 STATES IN THE U.S. IS MAKING BILLIONS. WHILE JAMAICA PLAY AROUND WITH POLICY.ANDREW MICHAEL J. HOLNESS.NEEDS TO RUN WITH THIS.

I made a suggestion on twitter last year about Jamaica supplying the USA with its great green herbs since its totally the best there is an there’s no need to artificially grow it in JA like they do in other countries and it’ll take no time to get it over to the USA…i hope they consider exporting worldwide there’s dollars to be made 🙏🤞👍

InJamaica : IS JAMAICA AN INDEPENDENT NATION, OR IS JAMAICA A POPPET OF GREAT BRITAIN. AND IS THE GOVERNMENT OF JAMAICA AFRAID OF WHAT THE UNITED STATES IS GOING TO SAY ABOUT JAMAICA COMPLETELY LEGALIZING THE MARIJUANA TRADE. JAMAICA NEEDS TO CAPITALIZED ON THE MARIJUANA TRADE THAT IS TAKING PLACE ACROSS THE WORLD RIGHT NOW. PLEASE TELL ME WHY CANADA HAS TO GO TO COLUMBIA TO BUY MARIJUANA,WHEN JAMAICA AND CANADA IS PART OF THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH. PLEASE EXPLAINED THAT TO ME.JAMAICA IS MISSING OUT BIG TIME. THE GOVERNMENT STAND TO MAKE A LOT OF REVENUES FROM THE MARIJUANA TRADE.WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT WAITING FOR.

JAMAICA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THAT IS KNOWN FOR THE HIGHEST QUALITY MARIJUANA THAT HAS NOT COMPLETELY GOTTEN OFF THE GROUND WITH THE MARIJUANA TRADE. CANADA IS GOING EVERY PLACE ELSE IN THE WORLD TO BUY THE CANNABIS OR MARIJUANA/ GANJA, WHILE JAMAICA CRAFTING A POLICY FRAME WORK.THAT IS LUNACY. THE U.K. DOESN’T ALLOCATED AN ANNUAL BUDGET TO ASSIST JAMAICA,NEITHER DOES THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ALLOCATED A ANNUAL BUDGET TO GIVE JAMAICA. JAMAICA IS FOR THE JAMAICANS,TAKE CARE OF JAMAICA,SHE COMES FIRST. FORGET ABOUT U.K. AND AMERICA.

InJamaica : SINCE I DON’T LIVE IN JAMAICA,I HAVE AN IMPORTANT QUESTION TO ASK YOU.? WHY IS THE MARIJUANA / Ganja TRADE IS TAKING SO LONG TO COMPLETELY LEGALIZE IN JAMAICA. MORE THAN HALF THE STATES HERE IN THE UNITED STATES COMPLETELY LEGALIZE THE MARIJUANA AND ARE MAKING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.CANADA IS RAKING IN BILLIONS THIS YEAR.WHY IS JAMAICA ALWAYS WANT TO LAGGED BEHIND THE 8 BALL. IT IS THE GOVERNMENT OF JAMAICA PREROGATIVES TO MAKE LAWS THAT GOVERN ITS JURISDICTION.

  12. Wiston Gel Infrastructure Development! on September 16, 2020 at 12:13 am

THE GOVERNMENT OF JAMAICA NEEDS TO TAKE THIS MARIJUANA TRADE SERIOUSLY.CANADA IS OUR FRIEND AND COMMONWEALTH BRETHREN,OPEN UP THE MARKET TO CANADA AND TRADE. BOTH MEDICAL AND RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA,AND STOP DRAGGING THEIR FEET.THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE FOR THE COMMON MAN,AND REVENUE TO BE COLLECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF JAMAICA.THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD STOP FEELING SKID DISH ABOUT THIS ISSUE,AND GET ON WITH IT.

I hope that the local people will benefit from the ganja farming and not mainly the foreign entities.

  15. Wiston Gel Infrastructure Development! on September 16, 2020 at 12:28 am

THESE POLITICAL IDIOTS ARE MOVING AT SNAIL PAST TO GET THIS MARIJUANA GANJA / CANNABIS TRADE MOVING AT WARPED SPEED. MOST OF THE WORLD IS REAPING A WINDFALL PROFIT WHILE JAMAICA CRAFT OUT A POLICY FRAME WORK. TAKE AWAY ALL OF THE BARRIERS,JUST MAKE SURE YOU THE GOVERNMENT COLLECT YOUR REVENUES FROM ALL SALES BOTH LARGE AND SMALL. THAT’S MY TAKE ON THIS SUBJECT.

I see someone already got a head start and is flying high. 🙈😂😂Seriously, that plot doesn’t look like 28 acres to me. Maybe I am high as I write, too. 😂😂😂

That cathedral looking mansion is quite impressive. I would take a tour just to see the interior of that castle like fixture. Congrats to the investor and I hope the jobs are filled as promised. 👍🏾
