This Video is About Marijuana

Uh Oh.

OK. A thing I didn’t say, that I probably should have, is that we haven’t actually had a chance to do as much research on marijuana as we should have. Edibles have different effects than smoking which has different effects from vaping. Different strains have different amounts of THC and CBD and that matters. These are both psycho-active compounds and they both have effects on your brain. That’s why they get you high, but the highs are different and the effects (and thus potential negative side-effects are different.)

But it’s also very hard to even STUDY marijuana because it’s illegal…so this is both another reason to decriminalize (to make research easier) and a reason why it’s more complicated (we don’t know for sure how many of the negative effects we’ve teased out.

What We Know about Marijuana

Why is Weed Illegal?

Marijuana has been fully legalized in California, and it’s changed my life. I didn’t smoke before because I didn’t want to go to jail, but now every night after I get ready for bed I have some, and finally de-stress for the first time during the whole day. I sleep better, with less nightmares, and my muscles aren’t so tense. What’s great is it’s still illegal to drive under the influence of, you have to be 21 to get it, I don’t have to worry if it’s laced because it’s regulated, and people high on marijuana are significantly less violent than drunk people.

The only downside is that tons of black, Latino, and Native men are still in prisons for selling/possessing a little bag of weed a long time ago. Which is a HUGE point of anger.

I posted a rather large response, and apparently it was deleted, that is incredibly sad that you’re not open-minded or responsible

Also weed can be addictive, just like food, exercise, and sleep. We need to understand that it can be addictive and overused it just doesn’t have addictive properties like hardcore drugs tend to have. I don’t know how to say this in a smarter way but potheads are addicts just as much as an obese person who eats 3 bags of candy a day

Prison reform should start with legalizing marijuana.

  7. ADHDBookworm on December 9, 2020 at 9:54 pm

In Alaska, it’s legal. Every April 20th, the streets of Anchorage will look strangely smokey, and that’s not an exaggeration. It’s kind of funny to look out your window and get a contact high.

  8. Ercan Er on December 9, 2020 at 9:56 pm

Well alcohol and tobacco is legal because criminalizing them would deprive government from getting huge amounth of tax.

  9. Middle Of The Road on December 9, 2020 at 9:58 pm

To be clear, there is a difference between decriminalizing and legalizing. What you are talking about here is legalizing. – signed, a legalized Canadian

I LOVE the "weakening the authority of law" point, and I think it’s a maybe a general observation that could explain a number of problems with compliance and social cohesion.

There is no correlation between cannabis use and schizophrenia, that is a scientific fact. Only reaching qualifier you can honestly say is, if one is predisposed to schizophrenia cannabis use could be a precipitative event, but onto itself it does not cause schizophrenia. Please do Better research

Funny story about this video. About a year ago I had to do a group project with a few other kids for a health class. We were assigned to research a bunch of stuff about marijuana. The project went fairly normally until one girl said that we should add a video to the slides, since that kind of thing was impressive to this teacher.

Well, she saw Hank Green, saw marijuana, saw the video was short, and didn’t think to check what the video actually said. We present the video, and our absolute Karen of a teacher turned it off after about 30 seconds. I would have argued the point but I was already on bad terms with her because she almost gave me a detention for not having my chromebook charged. accidental progressive movement squashed.

Of all the toxic drugs and poisons out there it’s interesting that things like mushrooms and grass are made illegal.
no physical dependency, zero toxicity, and proven medical efficacy as well as better recreational safety than alcohol or tabacoo.

Long term use of alcohol and tabacoo has been associated with as much or more long-term mental health issues. Correlation does not equal causation.

So I know you did this video two years ago but it couldn’t come at a better time for me. AZ is voting in to decriminalize marijuana in November. I have been on the fence whether to vote yes or no. Your video seriously helped me make my decision. I know you probably won’t see this but I would be feel bad not thanking you. Thank you!

This is the only way I can get this message out; HEMP plastics is the future for earth.
    LET IT BE KNOWN;
I wrecked my Harley not wearing my helmet that stopped my heart 3 times, put me into an 87 day coma waking with a 5.5 brain injury requiring relearning life. Once returning home I tried having my doctor do an MRI of my brain to compare to my wreck. He refused telling me that BIG PHARMA will financially destroy any doctor that proves THC restores brain injuries.
This upset me so much that I taught myself MOLECULAR SCIENCE and went to the gold shop in KALISPELL MONTANA showing JB how copper transitioned into gold. This got me kicked out and he told ‘city council’ that I am making FOOLS GOLD from copper pass tests
Boiling water proves that ‘heat’ excites MOLECULES allowing ATOMS to escape.
Earth must be restored by growing HEMP world wide.

Haha, jokes on marijuana, I got schizophrenia without smoking it.

  30. TypowyB4list4 on December 9, 2020 at 10:24 pm

Bro but the government is right since usual weed contains high percentage like 22% of THC but low or none % of CBD like 0.01. That would not provide any medical benefits but instead getting people high which is linked to psychosis.

  31. Limerence on December 9, 2020 at 10:25 pm

I really couldn’t care less if people smoked weed, I just wish modern media would show weed and other stuff in such an okay light. Like back in the early 2000s there was a push in sitcoms to show smoking as a bad habit and to create designated drivers in effort to convince the masses to not to drink and drive and stop people smoking. And it worked. Making something socially unacceptable is the most powerful tool in fighting addiction. Now I’m not saying jail them or dehumanise them like the war on drugs does, cuz that doesn’t work either. It’s not about what the law says is okay, it’s what people say is okay. And drugs is not okay because it can kill you. Weed may be small but its effects are the same as cigarettes (if you smoke it that is, they’re at least very similar).

I use weed and CBD products every day, and, as a person with ADHD, asperger’s, bipolar and PTSD, I feel like I can’t live without it.

It blows my mind that marijuana is a Schedule I drug defined as "no medical use" yet it’s being legalized medically across the nation….ok gov’ment

  35. Coyote Green on December 9, 2020 at 10:29 pm

I would also say that keeping it illegal means buying it from people who might also sell other things, like LSD or coke. And if marijuana doesn’t seem like it is all that, bad people can think the same of other drugs.

  36. TheMatron'sMilitia on December 9, 2020 at 10:30 pm

The whole conversation about health and economics is irrelevant to legality. Nobody should be put in a cage for having the wrong flower in their garden, pocket or pipe, end of discussion. Yes, it should be regulated, everything is regulated, but legality shouldn’t even be a question, the answer shouldn’t need defending.

  37. James m on December 9, 2020 at 10:30 pm

probably not great that i started at 16 on the stuff initially recreational
wonder if the damage is reversible or preventable.

Alcohol is not available in every gas station. In PA you can only get it in state stores (but they’re finally beginning to shift to allowing grocery stores to sell) (I know that’s not the main point of the video but I always like to point it out)

  43. Limerence on December 9, 2020 at 10:37 pm

What I don’t like is people in my school going around saying vaping is okay and marijuana is not as bad as other drugs and using those excuses all the problems that come with it. Firstly vaping was only invented for people who were already addicted to cigarettes to slowly ease off the nicotine. So people these days who start vaping when they don’t already smoke aren’t any better off then those who do. Also it doesn’t matter how much better off marijuana is, most people smoke it so they’re inhaling smoke into their lungs. If you do want to get high, eat it, don’t smoke it. The planet’s already dying from too much smoke, don’t make your lungs have to put up with it too. Secondly if you do smoke, or drink, or do drugs, do it within the safe limit. And if you do have a problem, own up to it and seek help. Drug problems persist because people are in denial of their own addiction and encourage their friends to do the same. The younger kids see the older cool kids doing it and follow suit.

Cannabis itself is 100% harmless. The fact our body creates it’s own cannabinoids and has an entire endocannabinoid system to work with and use cannabinoids in our body should be enough evidence that this herb is safe. It’s even in our DNA and is used by our body on a molecular level. There are cannabinoid receptors all over our entire body and organs. Legalize the thing, it’s just a plant.
