Both medical Marijuana and adult-use marijuana are legal in the State of Michigan. While the medical marijuana bill passed in 2016, Recreational cannabis in Michigan was legalized in November of 2018, with recreational sales beginning a year after sooner than expected.

Even though the recreational marijuana market has taken some time to grow. Michigan, one of the first states in the midwest, along with Illinois, to legalize adult-use cannabis, has estimated cannabis sales of $730 million to $875 million only in 2020. And it’s projected to reach $2 billion by the year 2024.

Medical Marijuana In Michigan
Medical marijuana in Michigan allows patients in the state to purchase up to 2.5 ounces cannabis daily. The purchasing limit per month for patients is 10 ounces of cannabis. To qualify as a patient a certification from a physician is required.

If a patient or caregiver is found exceeding these amounts, they would face a civil fine of up to $250.

The Michigan medical marijuana program was legalized in 2016, by the passing of several measures, the main ones are:

HB 4209, which gave authority to license and regulate businesses
HB 4210, that amended the previous law allowing the production of cannabis infused products and edibles for medical purposes.
HB 4827, that established a commercial monitoring system. This particular bill replaced a 2008 ballot initiative that allowed for the possession and use of medical marijuana.

    What did they lower in the application process to bring in more applicants? The fees? Or the liquid assets requirement? Seems like they murdered the home grow operations with their outrageous fees.
