Medical Marijuana Could END Big Pharma’s Grip On Our Lives

The biggest opponent of legalizing medical marijuana across the country is the pharmaceutical industry. Drug companies have poured millions of dollars into efforts to defeat the legalization of both medical and recreational marijuana, and those efforts have helped curb the growing trend of voters making choices about their own health. But the days of Big Pharma’s influence could be waning, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.

In the last few years, we’ve seen a bit of a boom with the marijuana industry, both medical and recreational. Cities, states, they’re legalizing marijuana, mostly for medicinal, a few of them for recreational purposes, but all along the way, there is still this massive fight over whether or not we should be doing this, especially in the medical marijuana debate that’s out there. And to be perfectly honest, there should be no medical marijuana debate right now. In fact, we’ve had that debate for years, and the anti-medical marijuana people have lost. Science is on the side of medical marijuana.

But you know who’s not on the side of medical marijuana? Big Pharma. A new study came out recently that said that Big Pharma stands to lose $4 billion every year if medical marijuana is legalized from coast to coast here in the United States. And that is perhaps why Big Pharma has become one of the major opponents, one of the heavy-hitting mega donors to the anti-marijuana movement here in the United States. They have poured millions upon millions of dollars into state and federal races to run against candidates who are in favor of increasing access to medical marijuana or in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.

Big Pharma, those pharmaceutical executives who make millions upon millions of dollars every single year by ripping us off, they are the ones fighting for this cheaper and safer alternative to the pills that they keep pushing onto the American public. Pills that, by the way, if you have never had the opportunity to go through any Big Pharma documents for any of the lawsuits they’ve faced, I strongly suggest that you do that. You can find plenty of them online. I have actually had the opportunity to work on a few cases as a staff member and help Mike Papantonio go through some of these documents.

The behavior of these pharmaceutical executives would absolutely blow your mind. I mean, we have done our best to try to convey how evil some of these people are in the drug industry, but even that fails to really paint the picture of some of the horrid things that these people say in their internal documents. They know that they put out pills that kill people, they know that they’re going to destroy your lives, and they know that they don’t have to be charging us as much as they are for these medications. But they do it anyway, because they just don’t care, because they love money so much, and that’s why they’re fighting back so hard against medical marijuana right now.

But in my opinion, after seeing these documents, after being around attorneys who have taken these people to court and exposed them for the corrupt frauds that they are, I think anything that gives us an alternative to the pills of Big Pharma is a good idea, something we should at least try. And if it’s something that is actually backed by science, like medical marijuana is now, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that we cannot get this legalized all across the United States. The only reason it hasn’t been is because that money coming from Big Pharma to politicians, both federal and state and local, is just too sweet for those politicians to actually do the right thing.

Big Pharma has an interest to not have any competition. There are other industries that don’t want hemp, like the cotton industry, petrochemical industry, lumber industry, the oil industry, tobacco industry, and other industries that don’t want competition. Hemp is the easiest crop to grow, it is naturally resistant to pests, it can be applied to many industrial uses like making plastics, oil, paper, etc.

It isn’t just the Pharma industry that is interested in keeping people dependent. I noticed a similar pattern in most industries, like how they make parts that aren’t standardized. Making it very difficult to repair machines by gluing them together, requiring specialized software to service them, etc. It is just the nature of our economic system that stifles innovation sometimes.

Cannabis is the miracle plant. It should be legal all the way around. Canada is being smart with their full legalization.

  4. Jerry BISBO on March 8, 2021 at 9:38 pm

It’s just marijuana. Medical is just saying it’s good for medicinal purposes.

Humans need crutches. Why are cigs and booze still around? They kill people. MJ does not do those things and it is causing grief among the Eurotrash powers that be.

Fossil fuel empires and their investors also helped big pharma when the plastic revolution came out and hemp products, (the roots and stem) and Cannabinoid oils, (the leaves) fell under the same attack as did the THC components, (the flower) of the plant. With Big Pharma and Fossil Fuels as enemies, the plant now confirmed to be of the vegetable group and filled with cancer fighting proteins, never had a chance when combined with the bigotry injected, when they finally went after Mexicans at the end and even named the cannabis plant, mari-juana.

Doesn’t take care of everything, but it does treat most common complaints. As well as helping with the side effects of powerful pharmaceuticals. I have a brain tumor, chronic cluster headaches and migraines. Helps with the pain from the tumor, is great for migraines and helps with the nausea from the cluster headache meds.

Don’t like Big Pharma decide WHAT WE WANT. They aren’t that important and we don’t need them to make billions off our suffering. Do not believe that Big Pharma is important, they are money grubbing killers. Let them lose 4 billion they need to!

Cannabis is like the opioid family. You don’t balance the two key components cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannibinol (THC); including factoring in whether the patient has a possibility at schizophrenia from their lineage. You are looking for serious trouble. I’m talking death; exponential number of mental instability problems (40% of a sample group by several studies) basically like Max Payne the movie. Even brain deformalities for those under the age of 25. I’m not against it. Just be wary of its effects bad as well as good. No such thing as a miracle drug.

It should have never been made illegal. It’s helped a lot of people. The should have made alcohol illegal, there are too many sinceless deaths that were alcohol related, family’s destroyed you could go on and on. As far as I know I’ve never heard of any marijuana related deaths. It’s natural, you could grow it yourself and the cost would be practiley zero. People wouldn’t have to pay for a Dr visits or have to take all kinds of pills with terrible side effects and the costs of them are outrageous. If it helped you. I know It wouldn’t help everyone, but it would help a lot of people. It would be the right thing to do. Screw big pharma and insurance companies. Make America green again, grow your own medicine. Keep big pharma away from it. They are so corrupt and greedy they couldn’t stay away from it long. If there’s a good thing, someone or body will find a way to screw it up.

  14. TruthHurts on March 8, 2021 at 9:50 pm

They’ll fight it until they can’t fight it anymore then they’ll hijack it. They’ll take total control of the production of it by buying off politicians then require a "safety certification" or some other BS process that costs so much to get it will drive out most other competition. That or they’ll limit the number of growers by selling a set amount of certifications like the NY taxi cab medallion system which big pharma will buy up.

NFL is on the side of anti weed as well. cause when players get hurt they give the players highly addictive opiates because they have deals with that company. players who want to use legal weed for pain get fined and banned if they choose weed over opiates

Cannabis is known as an effective pain medication, which is not addictive, as well as a *very* effective treatment against epilepsy. If anyone is worried about its psychoactive effects, there are strains of medical cannabis one can purchase that have *none,* yet still retain its medicinal properties.

I am 100% behind decriminalizing marijuana. The claims of medical benefit are so far, way overrated. The science behind benefit across a wide range of conditions is just not that strong.

God put marijuana and magic mushrooms on this earth, not man. Micro-dosing magic mushrooms heightens the senses and brings a euphoria. I also think magic mushrooms should be used for people with head injuries. Heads injuries are a blunting of the senses. What better way to bring the senses back on line then micro-dosing magic mushrooms. When we humans realize what we have been robbed of for so long, I think there are going to be some pissed off people (conscious people, unconscious people will never figure it out).

Big Pharma will get their piece of Med. THC.
As soon as the federal gov’t gives up and legalizes, watch how quickly the laws which allow home or independent growers quickly either get modified or disappear entirely.
The State of Ohio tried some hinky shit with corporate monopolies being sole legal growers. Glady, the smokers of Ohio let their lack of enthusiasm for this over ride their needs for THC.
There is no damn way those corps are keeping their mitts out of the lucre available in the THC market. Be it smokables or edibles.

i still say if trump were to legalize then noonce could attack him anymore ….lol i dont believe he is being attacked invalidly he is a crook but what a curve ball it would be if he and the repub control congressed legalized bout a week before this years election in november? liberals would be scared to call him out on his shit and repubs lick his taint anyways so that would suck in some ways but be sweet in others…

  34. Richard Thomas on March 8, 2021 at 10:17 pm

This is a new era of medicine, legalizing cannabis can have better benefits not only for health. But to boost the economy that can create jobs from pot shops to hemp farms. That will end the decades of failure in the War on Drugs. That will kill the black market on drug dealing and stop the monopoly of Big Pharma and the Health Insurance companies screwing over the American people.

The Oxy’s were paid for by my insurance, and since I was/am unable to work it helped me monetarily. Now, I’m getting screwed by the insurance company since they will NOT Pay for my Cannabis prescription.. There is also No Recreational or Growing allowed in PA, so I am stuck struggling to pay for my prescriptions, this is just not good at all for me..We NEED Recreational, or at least the option to grow our own medicine..*

Yes marijuana for medical purposes is a wonder drug. I suspect that is the only big reason it was made illegal in the first place.

Please stop using the word "marijuana". It’s legitimate name is Cannabis. Marijuana was a slang term created by big pharma in the 1920’s and 30’s. Don’t empower the people you speak out against. It’s cannabis people. You might as well say weed or reefer if your gunna use the term marijuana. smh

Real simple, I prefer a pothead over a drunk any day. Just imagine how a burnt out stoner acts, then imagine a belligerent drunk trying to get into a fight with you. I choose the pothead.

It needs to be legalized in every state. Its a waste to spend tax money on arresting people for smoking something that isnt effecting no one.
