Should cannabis be legalised in the UK?
Thousands of people have gathered in London’s Hyde Park to celebrate 420, the unofficial International Weed Day.
The event is recognised by marijuana lovers all around the world to celebrate the use of the Class B drug while campaigners call for it to be legalised.
Ian Collins: “The organiser said it’s not just dirty hippies that smoke marijuana. It’s older people, business people, academics. All sorts of people use cannabis in a responsible and active way”.
HOLY SMOKE ππ€©π¬
Yes. Simple. Cigarettes and alcohol are far worse.
Smoking weed made me quit alcohol completely. Truth is too many people think they can have an opinion on it while having never tried and when they talk about it itβs laughable.
Legalise and find out, who knows you may put the bottle down
This makes me so angry, the constant bashing with words like "skunk", Skunk isnt even a thing! its a media word to scare people. cannabis is all the same, the thc level is just varied, the pastors idea that people will just move on to black market "skunk" when they want stronger stuff, how many people go to their local moonshine maker looking for a stronger vodka? nobody…
Yes it should be. It’s no more harmful than alcohol and society encourages us to drink.
Smoke blunts no tobacco then ππ»
Its amazing its even a question. The fact you can buy tobacco and alcohol says enough and while alcohols benefits are debatable, tobacco certainly isnt theres no actual benefit to it and yet weed thats literally a medicine, a cure, and has a number of benefits that outweigh any (if any at all) downsides. So yeah if you’re gonna sell tobacco that has no actual benefit then i dont see why its even a question of should it be legalized, its stupid it isnt already.
If all the haters had a joint I really think their mind would change
Doesn’t he realize his country is already legalized for medical use already they are just waiting for recreational legalization
The point against it is invalid. The boogieman didnt appear in Canada or many US states when they legalised.
All recreational cannabis is unpollenated. Once the buds start to produce seeds they stop producing cannabinoids… Basically seeded cannabis wouldn’t have any effect if you consumed it.
I enjoy hearing people that are suddenly worried about the health of weed smokers whilst showering no concern for drinkers, I was beaten my a drunkard father and loved by my weed smoking step father
I used cannabis to pass A level chemistry and physics with A*
Yes it should
This is the prohibition arguement and the arguement leans so obviously and heavily on legalisation. It hasn’t messed up society in other countries and the suggestion that it would is preposterous. If you haven’t seen the vice documentary on the war on drugs you don’t know what your talking about. It’s a medicine and the negative effects have come about as a result of it’s illegalisation. It has meant easy money is in the hands of gangs and criminals. These gangs grow weed at risk to there own life and freedom to make quick cash. Because suppliers want more bang for buck and quick cash, the strains that we get today have been bio-engineered to have a much higher dosage of the one type of chemical that makes you high as a kite. The UK really need to untie from the stereotype of lazy smokers and embrace a cannabis culture and a potential billion pound industry were it is used in the same way as alchole or nicotine. Alchole and nicotine are no where near as safe as regular old weed. Regulation and integration would be so easy with the extent of knowlegde coming from weed specialists in weed legal places. The newly growing market would be galvanized by this and with more science going into this field we could potentially backward and then foward engineer the plant to the needs of patients that need this plant to stop feeling excruciating pain. My final arguement is that we have grown this plant for many years and we are now symbiotic with the plant it has evolved to suit our needs wheather that be hemp rope or paper or even tapping into producing more of the chemicals that already exist in our brain. But through illegalising the symbiotic relationship between man and plant has been sabotaged as a result of the original reason for illegalisation which was in fact systemic racism within the U.S.A.
it’s time
YES
The war on drugs keeps away the war on pedo’s
I get high af before and during work, only way to get it done.
Legalise and tax, missing a trick m8s
Yes
"Would you want to meet a pothead in the street asking what day it is and looking for a packet of hobnobs"? Yes its better that being mugged at knife point by a heroin user who is desperate for money so he can get another fix. Heroin and cocaine are also both illegal substances here in England and yet people still get their hands on it. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Boris say that the time was now right for Cannabis to be made legal when he first took office in 2019? I seem to remember him promising that he would look into it. Looks like all those voters who lent him their votes wont be lending them again
Ive been a alcoholic for the last ten years, tried to stop and failed many times. Smoking weed has been a game changer for me, it suppresses the need for a drink. People say weed is a gateway drug, I disagree it can be used to wean you away from other drugs. My liver has never been better. Alcohol kills millions of people every year, but it is ready available everywhere. Our drug laws are dated and we need to catch up with the rest of the world. One more point it would generate millions of pounds to the economy.
Yes, yes it is. There is actually no counter arguments that make any sense at all. Legalising takes it out of kids hands, takes it away from gangs, builds tax money, fund our NHS, stop people smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol, creates an environment where it’s made safe for growing and sales, it has Medical benefits, helps you with creativity, eating disorders there’s just too much! It makes better paper and grows it faster than trees, you can eat it… The seeds are a super food along with hemp, why the fuck would you not legilise it?
Honestly after a hard day of work and stress, smoking cannabis is a very helpful tool to unwind. It helps you think of things rationally and can stop you from holding onto the anger built up from people all day.
Hearing him saying skunk makes me cringe so much .
In 15 years of smoking never heard anyone who actually smokes call it that
THC is ,,15 percent in most skunk weed where as hashish is a lot more higher in THC
Nothing wrong with weed .. people getting arrested for smoking a plant and getting a criminal record is mental
I don’t smoke weed nowadays but did for many years mainly growing my own at home so I didn’t need to risk arrest and being robbed
I’m a full time working person not all smokers are hippies
Rant over
I think it’s another couple of years away in the UK & Ireland.
Yip for over 21yrs of age.
Weed isn’t addictive
Legalisation doesn’t cause an increase in use in the long run in states in America that have legalized, having a age restrictions would protect children and being able to pick your strains would help people get medical benefits. Also our university’s could do new research and we could actually find out more hard medical facts surrounding cannabinoids π₯π¨ free the weed! Saor alba !
Trust mr goody two shoes to be the prophet of addition. He should study the subject, most of us are addicted to something in some way or other, many of us are in need of some down time and healing. But it’s like John Lennon said, what ever you do in life, it all comes down to you man, you have to get down to that place, that temple in your own head. Maybe in the UK we are liable to get a bit more carried away with it initially, but we all have other interests and intention that we’d like to pursue in attentive sobriety. Alcohol can be a lousy thing for many, same old, same old because what else. At least, if used respectfully, maybe just the once, maybe barely, maybe whenever, like (yeah I know another usual suspect) Bob Marley say’s, it let’s you think, not so much like alcohol, you get that time to think ..you know!
The decriminalisation of drug use and possession in Portugal has work amazing and is still looking promising, I believe it was caused by a dire heroin crisis in the 90s
I dont care I’ll smoke it either way.
β οΈ Dont tell me that weed is fine until you know what itβs like to have induced psychosis and sectioned in a mental hospital because of it β οΈ
Should be legal but being under the influence of it should be treated under the law the same as being drunk, so can’t drive, operate heavy machinery, or anything you can’t do under the influence of alcohol, in the U.S. You legally can’t buy a gun as a cannabis smoker because it’s still illegal on a federal level, I think that’s stupid but carrying a firearm in public while under the influence should still not be permitted even though carry should be legal to users when they’re sober
Defoe and ban the drink
I was forming an argument in my head when you were listing the negatives, but then you mentioned Hob Nobs and in my head I immediately thought, "yeah, he’s right in a way, those milk choc hobnobs would be nice now"
Go and talk to Theresa May’s husband hes making a mint out of weed their company is called Sativex.
LEGALISE EVERYTHING. THIS SHOULD NOT EVEN BE UP FOR DEBATE.
Persecuting people as criminals for possession of any drug is more of a crime than possessing said drug is.
It is wrong for drug users to have to argue their case. WE ARE NOT GUILTY. THEY ARE.
Well if they did, they would have to make cannabis smoking areas, and drug crime would go down, plus making it legal would mean the gov could create a tax on it like with tobacco or suger
100% weed will be legal here very soon, we are going to need to have more of an economical pull, especially with Brexit and COVID-19, it’ll be too enticing to not have it. I’d rather weed be legal and alcohol be illegal. Coming from someone that doesn’t do either, weed is way safer.
Weed is the one that helps me get a better quality of life. I hope we can stop the hate that surrounds the industry. Cannabis gives many people a new chance at life. I hope we can embrace it as a medicinal plant and not just a drug that can give hallucinations.
I’ve been smoking it for 40yrs. Never had a problem, apart from a craving for kebabs and chocolate. Nobody has died of a Cannabis overdose.
Of course it should.
100% it should be legal, either way I’m still gonna smoke itπ
Just legalise it, its not gonna give you a clear head but it will help you when your suicidal.
Also right now the least amountyou can buy is 2 grams. But change it, make it legal and let us buy smaller amounts, this way we can get stoned as a one off instead of resorting to chronic usage everytime we want to buy some.
I dont need some soy wide mouth tard. Telling me what i can smoke or not. We are going to smoke it if its against the law or not.
Cannabis might be illegal but it’s not unlawful. Where and who is the victim? Legalising or decriminalising means one thing, it can be reversed. What really needs to happen is, the police must organically stop arresting cannabis ‘felons’. This is the only credible solution and the only one that will work. This fucking idiot has not got a clue what he’s talking about and should just leave it alone and talk about what he knows.
Only one word needs to be left here… YES
