Canada's cannabis products routinely mislabelled, a Nova Scotia study finds

Since Canada legalized cannabis in 2018, sales have skyrocketed to an industry now worth $4 billion a year in the country.

But Nova Scotia scientists have made troubling discovery over the products – cannabis strains are being regularly mixed up and mislabelled on the shelves.

The Cannabis Council of Canada, which represents more than 700 licensed growers in the country, suggests it’s a lingering effect from the illegal cannabis market.

Ross Lord looks at how exactly it’s messing up the marketing over scientific facts – and why it could be dangerous.

Are we surprised our reject government screwed something else up? Trudeau couldnt manage a lemonade stand, god help us with that reject in charge of our once great country.

  4. Rocky johnson on October 20, 2021 at 9:39 am

It’s funny how that works. I order my stuff directly from a country that has been in this industry for at least 30 plus years. The illegal market transition should have never occurred and pure genitic strains from country we know and love could have been put in place rather easily. Also this government packaging is a joke and such a waste to the environment. Weed supposed to be bought in bulk and placed into a nice zip lock bag. Instead we have heavy plastic and cardboard waste being produced so the government gets it’s tax due and that’s all it ever cares about instead of making the price reasonable and good for the environment. Also they added a 10% tax to buying weed.

How about the THC amounts that are completely wrong but they price it based on thc level? You don’t know what you are getting until you pick up the bud, look at it, smell it. Where it comes off the plant makes a big difference as well.

Up to about 20 to 25 years ago, the designation of Indica vs Sativa was a generally good way to distinguish the physiologic effects of the various strains; But since then the cross breeding and multiple lines of hybrid upon hybrid has mixed the genome to the point that visual characteristics provide a much less accurate indicator of the ultimate effect on human physiology.

Tim houston and Dr. strang are war criminals along with the sham of a news broadcaster.

  9. Joolz Forrest on October 20, 2021 at 9:41 am

As a budtender I knew this all along lol that’s why I tell my customers if it’s not a specific land race it’s a hybrid, as everything is being cross breeding on mass these days.

  10. tonyfanfarone on October 20, 2021 at 9:42 am

So many factors contribute to effects. Cannabinoid content and ratios. Terpenes content and ratios.
If vaping, temperature effects what cannabinoids and terpenes are vaporized and made available and in what quantities. Amount of cannabis consumed has a very large effect and large amounts of the same bud can have opposite effects to small amounts or microdosing. It is up to the individual to learn the strains, techniques and LPs that provide the results they desire. A diary of use with this info logged can be invaluable for this.
The legal market makes it much much easier to repeat the results desired by using the same LPs and strains, temps, amounts etc. Using different strains, LPs etc every time makes it almost impossible to predict results. This can be fun for recreational users but medicinal use requires some effort on the part of the patient to achieve consistent results. It is definitely possible though.

This is misleading because very few strains are sativa dominant, the strains that say they’re sativa almost all have some indica in them. A dispensary worker can explain that to him. All he is attempting to say is that some indica dominant strains are labeled sativa when in reality, almost all strains are indica dominant, these days. It would be very difficult to make any money, bringing back sativa dominant strains, it will never happen. The most that people who want sativa can get is maybe around 50/50.
He could be bringing up problems like over charging for crappy weed, labeling the same weed as two different kinds of weed, stale weed, weed that’s too dry, but no, he wants people to realize that there is no sativa dominant weed, because sativa has a different effect than indica. He must not smoke weed much. The effects are different for everyone and vary depending on a person’s tolerance, and the amount used. Today’s weed is too strong to smoke much of and not be totally stoned, laying on the couch. If the dispensary worker says one is more mellow or whatever, that’s maybe true if you smoke one hit or are very sensitive, but there are only a few active ingredients of weed, the thc gets you stoned, and it’s in both sativa and indica. Making a big menu with all the levels of goodness is ok but it’s all weed, it all does basically the same thing. I have smoked hundreds of different strains and I never think to myself, this is a sativa buzz, or an indica buzz.

I’ve bought cannabis from the OCS that smelled like water mould. The brand was "Grower’s choice" and clearly the grower must have been an amateur or on crack

We need this legalising in Uk, I’m sick of having to see dealers to get my weed and you never know how good it is till you get it. UK is so backward with most things. I need to move to Canada I think πŸ˜€

  20. Terrible Timmy on October 20, 2021 at 9:53 am

The potency sucks.. it was WAY better before legalization.

  21. Shark Larmey on October 20, 2021 at 9:53 am

The longer you let a sativa finish at the end of flower, the more indica-like it will be πŸ˜‰ The trichomes turn amber and more sedating. And if you grow an indica, if you cut it down earlier (8 week flower), it can be more sativa-like. In my opinion, Indica and sativa are just indicators on where the plant originated, how the structure of it grows and how long flower generally takes (recommended).

  27. Martin Paiement on October 20, 2021 at 10:01 am

For a so called expert what is he basing his findings off. Sativa means tall and skinny and indica means short and stout. These people are talking about things they don’t understand.

The packaging is bad. You should be able to see what you are buying. Imagine going to a grocery store, or all stores and the fresh fruit and vegetables all came in black bags and containers. Plus it is over packaging. A simple baggie is that is needed.
