WOW Texas news Half-ton of marijuana uncovered

JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) – Weighing-in at a half-ton of marijuana, a drug bust Monday in Jasper County is one of the largest in recent history.

A state trooper discovered 1,000 pounds of the narcotic in the back of a truck along U.S. Highway 190, west of Jasper.

Around 7:42 a.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper pulled over a 2004 Isuzu truck driven by Enar David Zuniga, 45, of Clinton, North Carolina for a seat belt violation.

According to DPS, the trooper became suspicious when Zuniga and his passenger, Henry Hernandez, 31, of Pleasantville, New Jersey began giving conflicting stories.

The trooper then asked to search the vehicle and a K-9 was called in to help. DPS spokesman Trooper David Hendry said the massive amount of bundled marijuana was found in the body of the box truck.

Both men were arrested at the scene. A third, unidentified male was also in the truck.
