It’s time for an America v Germany drag race!

We’ve got our hands on two Porsches – the Cayman GT4 and the entry-level 718. Alongside them, we’ve got the Ford Mustang Mach 1. Now you may think it’s a bit of an odd line-up, but when you check out the stats, you’ll see there’s a method in our madness!

Let’s start with the GT4. It’s powered by a 4-litre flat-six that can put down 420hp & 420Nm of torque. It’s RWD only and it’s also equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. In terms of weight, it tips the scales at 1420kg.

Alongside it, we have the 718. Now it’s the entry-level, so it’s only powered by a 2-litre flat-four turbocharged engine that puts down 300hp & 380Nm. It’s also RWD, however, it’s the lightest car here, at 1365kg. But that’s not all – it’s also the only automatic in the line-up!

Then finally we have the Mustang. It’s got a HUGE engine – a 5-litre naturally-aspirated V8, no less! It also puts down the most power, with 460hp & 529Nn. However, it’s also the heaviest, weighing in at 1807kg, and just like the GT4, it’s a manual.

So what do you think – is the Mustang out of the running given the weight difference? And will the manual 718 take down the GT4? There’s only one way to find out – LET’S RACE!

European cars are better than american cars, at the tehnology.

  2. Dorian Vrbančić on January 19, 2022 at 7:36 pm

Proof that american horse power is weak

  3. Michael on January 19, 2022 at 7:36 pm

    Should’ve had a gt350 here lmao

  4. Arian Dito on January 19, 2022 at 7:36 pm

no 4 or 6 Cylinder car sounds as good as Porsche does, most great sounding cars are +V8 but Porsche doesn’t need that to sound great

  5. boeingdriver29 on January 19, 2022 at 7:37 pm

The Mustang defines the term “Yank tank”. Piece of junk.

  6. David Dyer on January 19, 2022 at 7:39 pm

Mat, please stop these ludicrous sound checks – they are meaningless in today’s environment.

  7. Alberto on January 19, 2022 at 7:39 pm

Mustangs are so damn expensive in Europe

  8. mambo on January 19, 2022 at 7:39 pm

The irony of selling it with a manual as if real petrol heads would go after a mustang 😂

  9. Márió Dukay on January 19, 2022 at 7:40 pm

I love how rubbish the Mustang is, I remember when I made a comment about a german estate being faster that an American muscle car and I got so much hate for it but just look at the carwow leaderboard and an E63 amg is faster than basically any Mustang they tested lol

  10. Jacob on January 19, 2022 at 7:40 pm

Mustangs are slow as hell xD

  11. deejayimm on January 19, 2022 at 7:41 pm

It’s not really interesting that modern automatics are faster than manuals, we’ve known that for years now.
Manuals are just so much more fun though….

  12. stickvortex on January 19, 2022 at 7:45 pm

The problem with the Mustang remains it’s weight, not to mention a front engined rear drive car will almost always underperform to a mid engined setup…

  13. Yo Yo on January 19, 2022 at 7:47 pm

That yellow thing is a bad ass 😏… Means Porsche… 😎

  14. maxwell cobbs on January 19, 2022 at 7:47 pm

I really love this vidoe at large❤ but investing in crypto now should be in every wise individuals list. In some months time you’ll be ecstatic with the decision you made today.

So what this video says is don’t waste your money buying the GT models. Pay a bit on extras for styling but save on fuel etc.

  17. Nathanael Cole on January 19, 2022 at 7:48 pm

13.7 for a 460 hp car?! I don’t care how bad the conditions are, the person cannot drive for crap!

  18. Frederick Isavian on January 19, 2022 at 7:49 pm

1990 called, they want the Manual gear box back! Manual sucks!

  19. coveyuofm15 on January 19, 2022 at 7:54 pm

Absolutely embarrassing showing for the Mach 1.

  20. Mikuláš Berka on January 19, 2022 at 7:54 pm

    German HP > Murican HP

  21. Enzo Mendoza on January 19, 2022 at 7:54 pm

having a base cayman in sapphire blue, I am proud of this performance

  22. T J on January 19, 2022 at 7:56 pm

The only reason you would ever put a heavy mustang against two porches is to humiliate it.

Who will win in a race? Usain Bolt or the heavier more powerful Brock Lesnar?

    Duh.

  23. TheMazCorner on January 19, 2022 at 7:58 pm

It needs the A10, I managed a 12.2@190km/h on the street with my A10 GT EU spec. Did have wider PS4S tires though

The gearing on the manual EU mustangs are shit. Also should use the flat shifting in the manual, no need to lift the throttle during the gear changes when you are on WOT

  24. Vengeful Rat on January 19, 2022 at 8:01 pm

It is said that to this day, we’re still waiting for Mat to tell us why the mustang was in the race.

  25. umiringains on January 19, 2022 at 8:01 pm

My 2014 mustang GT manual does the quarter in 12.7 bone stock…. Something seems off here

  26. Basand on January 19, 2022 at 8:03 pm

Lesson of the video: by a normal cayman, tune it, and use the rest of the money for any other mods you want 😂

  27. DeanoGTO on January 19, 2022 at 8:04 pm

If I was picking one of these cars I 100% would go with the mustang. Purely because I think mustangs are really cool and a big American v8 is just bad ass.

  28. PutThatCoffeeDown on January 19, 2022 at 8:06 pm

All hail Porsche engineers! Getting that performance from the base model is insane. In the real world why would you want to spend so much more?

  29. stuart ellis on January 19, 2022 at 8:08 pm

Shame you cannot order the Mustang as a manual anymore. 5.0l v8 and a proper manual, might not be the fastest but massive smile factor.

  30. Paul Taylor on January 19, 2022 at 8:08 pm

Probably all down to long gearing on the GT4, with PDK shorter gearing and faster changes GT4 would then have won.

  31. ill Eagle Sneaks on January 19, 2022 at 8:09 pm

    That mustang is pathetic

  32. pbbdmedia on January 19, 2022 at 8:09 pm

The gt4 would have walked them in the rolling race if you were in 2nd gear at 50mph.

  33. John Williams on January 19, 2022 at 8:09 pm

Let’s be honest, American cars are pretty awful in most of these tests considering the perception their inhabitants have of their country. Too heavy, not enough power (they can put down) and they never stop quicker than zee Germans.

  34. Rabelani Christopher Tshidada on January 19, 2022 at 8:10 pm

    Mastung power so useless

  35. Josh The Mediocre on January 19, 2022 at 8:10 pm

I grew up in a Ford family and this would anger the 18 yr old me to no end, but at 40 i have learned to love everything but Matt Watson..I’m shocked at how well the base Cayman did but then again i’m not. Fords are fast until you start lining them up against anything else, truth is truth, i can accept that.

  36. Luka Talan on January 19, 2022 at 8:11 pm

The weather changed like 5 times😂

  37. bateslabel on January 19, 2022 at 8:12 pm

Mustangs have been the same numbers practically since the inception of the coyote. The engine has gotten better, but the rest of the car has lagged behind. The auto is nice, but on paper it should be so much more.

  38. Hillbilly Mike on January 19, 2022 at 8:12 pm

  39. hquwx on January 19, 2022 at 8:14 pm

😂😂😂😂there was a mustang in this race???? Anyways gotta love porsche!! That flat 6 revving to 8,000 rpm😋😋😋

  40. Vinesh Naidoo on January 19, 2022 at 8:15 pm

    US cars are USeless as…..

  41. Richard Docherty on January 19, 2022 at 8:16 pm

The Mustang is a proper embarrassment

  42. HyPeRiOn X on January 19, 2022 at 8:17 pm

Carwow absolutely needs driver mods 😂

  43. Br33zeKooL on January 19, 2022 at 8:22 pm

So the big v8 performed as well as a basic civic type R.

  44. Tam Brody on January 19, 2022 at 8:23 pm

Same car A true manual VS a modern 7+ spd auto tran you can’t beat it from a dig doesn’t matter who you are

  45. Devilish Devil on January 19, 2022 at 8:23 pm

Got me curious… how would a 10 speed GT fare against the 718

  46. Movsar Naculchanov on January 19, 2022 at 8:26 pm

    Does the Mustang really have a 5.0 V8 Wirth 460hp?? I guess I waighs more than 1.800kg

  47. Austyn Velasco on January 19, 2022 at 8:26 pm

    300 hp to the wheel

  48. Hillbilly Mike on January 19, 2022 at 8:30 pm

Imagine a 4 seat track focused “muscle car” with a usable trunk losing a drag race to a pair of 2 seat sports cars? 🙄 GT500 would’ve been a better comparison. But we can’t have Porsche lose a race in Merry ol’ England can we? The Mach 1 is a Mustang GT with a handling package and body kit.

  49. Rosco on January 19, 2022 at 8:30 pm

You need an American driving that mustang because 13’s is terrible.

  50. mickey Suede on January 19, 2022 at 8:32 pm

they call the cayman the poor mans porsche… I’m cool with that
