Ukrainian Newborns in Bomb Shelter Get Oxygen Pumped by Hand

Desperate Ukrainians are scrambling to train stations and highways to get out of large cities. Their attempts to flee come as the Russian army on the outskirts of Kyiv make their way closer to the capital city. At a maternity hospital, newborn babies were moved to the basement and placed on cots in the hopes that doing so would keep them safe from any potential bombings. One nurse kept a child alive by pumping oxygen into her lungs by hand.

This still doesn’t convince me we should go to war. It doesn’t justify putting more financial strain on Americans. Besides, our government does nothing to protect our southern border, so why should we care about protecting Ukraine’s?

  32. Lynn L on February 28, 2022 at 12:04 am

They need places to sleep, get food, medical attention, you can’t just pack and go to a shelter… a lot more is coming up.. depending on what the F$&@?! Putin the S?&/:;@ is going to do. Really enfuriates me that this is happening

*"A true war story is never moral. It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behavior, nor restrain men from doing the things men have always done. If a story seems moral, do not believe it. If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if you feel that some small bit of rectitudeΒ  has been salvaged from the larger waste, then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie."* – Tim O’Brien

  49. Kei Kei on February 28, 2022 at 12:28 am

Can we get an update on these babies? Can an NGO step in and help get these babies critical care and transported somewhere safe where they can receive access to vital life saving instruments. This is a crisis. Governments around the world need to do more for the most vulnerable and protect the young and elderly during these conflicts. The very least Putin could agree to do in his diabolical invasion of Ukraine, is to stop the bombing of hospitals, show a little humanity for god sake even during times of war! Targeting infrastructure that supports vulnerable and defenseless civilians is inexcusable on every level. It should be a violation of Geneva conventions. This is heartbreaking, all these young souls born to turbulence, war, and strife. Leaves you gutted. How can we help?
