Cannabis News: Washington, D.C. Allows Senior Citizen Residents To Become Medical Cannabis Patients

Legislation has been enacted in Washington, D.C. that allows senior citizen residents to enroll as medical cannabis patients without the need for a physician’s referral. The legislation also stretches the timeframe for medical cannabis patients to update their certification and establishes a medical cannabis tax alleviation holiday that aligns with 4/20, the informal cannabis celebration.

The emergency policy is intended to encourage patients in the District to purchase cannabis from certified distributors instead of illicit sellers operating in a legislative gray area linked to D.C.’s law permitting adults to “gift” cannabis to others.

Senior citizens over the age of 65 years will not be required to receive doctor prescriptions and recertifications in order to maintain accessibility to medical cannabis due to self-enrollment through September 30, according to the legislation.

What implications will this have on Washington, D.C.’s medical cannabis system?

Don’t get me wrong I’m glad they helping out senior citizens, but in any other instance this would be considered ageism. But I also to believe you shouldn’t have to pay for a medical card either…

Hypocritical of DC to legalize but the fed won’t. Isn’t it discrimination against the rest of us if senior citizens have access but the rest of us don’t?
