The Hidden Dangers of Legal Weed | News on Drugs

2022 might be the biggest year yet for legal weed. But there are problems.

After decades of the War on Drugs, the cartels are not giving up their hold on the market – and the new legal business is in danger of being taken over by giant corporations.

Meanwhile, many of those most harmed by the drug war – like people of color and medical patients – are being shut out.

Who is doing best, and who is doing worst at managing these issues. We decide who gets the News On Drugs trophy for best legal cannabis system.

The key when doing a documentary spot on a "serious issue" is to constantly underscore the gravity of the topic discussed with a relentless anxiety-provoking muzak track. Bonus is that it totally masks the lagging quality of your Zoom audio.

These guys sit around drinking beer and talking about how marijuana is a gateway drug. The biggest lie ever told. The gateway drug is alcohol and that is a fact. People loose their inhibition and do things they wouldn’t normally do when drunk. I can’t tell you how many people say when they drink it triggers them to do coke. Stop the lies and hypocrisy

  3. kobbii i on April 16, 2022 at 6:39 pm

There shouldn´t be any laws that protect people from themselves. Good or bad it´s your life and you should do with it as you like

  4. Aaron A. Aaronson on April 16, 2022 at 6:40 pm

Selling of all drugs is still illegal. Charities are the only ones who can sell them….. TELL ME THAT IS NOT GENIUS??? (obviously with regulation)

  5. Lefty Keys on April 16, 2022 at 6:40 pm

It’s common knowledge (to anyone paying attention) that alcohol & tobacco are way more dangerous. I’m tired of being gaslit by prohibitionists. Time to move on and give this one a rest.

  6. Randy Stevensmom on April 16, 2022 at 6:41 pm

All drugs of potential addiction need to be provided to existing addicts, at cost of federal governments. That’s the only way.

  7. Jessy Havron on April 16, 2022 at 6:43 pm

Say welcome to our future drug addicts, might as well sell it at Walmart and grocery stores because these medical Marijuana shops sell it to anybody. If you don’t have a medical Marijuana card just let someone that has one buy it for you.You might as well grow it in your garden.

Legalizing marijuana is great idea specifically when one can grow there own and not worry it’s laced with fentanyl. So definitely a yes for myself.

I try to imagine how different things might be if weed was never made illegal, scheduled one, which sadly it still is, and expensive as hell, I remember when one could buy a four fingered baggy for $20., but allowed the marked to evolve naturally without any control, decriminalize it, so anyone could start a business, it sad how everything had become political, and corrupt, just like alcohol during prohibition, when organized conservative mafia gangs made millions running, booze, etc..after it was legalized again, the mafia moved into gambling casinos (Trump) and started nascar…it sad how corrupt everything has become, and organized…

  16. Steve Olson on April 16, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Trying to stop trafficking? Maybe you can lower the prices that might stop the cartels! But that is who are the cartels! The ultra rich are driving the illegal markets!!!! !!

The title of this video is misleading. This video is about social, legal, and financial issues regarding the legal cannabis industry, not about the product itself being dangerous to consumers. All the vintage footage of cars driving around and people doing stuff was interesting, yet distracting to what was being said in the interview. Just my two cents worth…

0:53 shows what looks like a Peruvian Apple Cactus (Cereus Peruvianus), with the caption "mind-altering substances". WHY? This plant is not psychoactive.

  21. John Talmage on April 16, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Legally let people grow it, and KILL the black market.

    Simple

  22. Steve Olson on April 16, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Only rich and tourists that’s who can afford it!!!! !!

  24. Hugs4drugs20 on April 16, 2022 at 6:59 pm

This sounds quite a bit like the dangers of illegal cannabis and not the dangers of legalization. One of the main focus points towards legalization was removing funding from the black market, why is this now being presented as an issue?

  25. Limerick's Finest on April 16, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Access to medical cannabis in Ireland is ridiculous the government insists that people have to be prescribed every manufacted pharmaceutical pain killer first before finally being granted access to a plant

It costs a million dollars to open a pot company in Hawaii. Security guards and fencing are expensive

  29. Adam M on April 16, 2022 at 7:04 pm

The problem in America is that people who have no idea what there talking about are allowed to make laws. IM TIRED OF BEING LIED TO USA IS A LIE WE HAVE NO LIBERTIES OR FREEDOM WHEN GATEKEEPED BY ALL THE HURTLES THEY PURPOSELY MADE TO HINDER AND SWAY YOU FROM DOING ANYTHING.

We can buy a 5th and poison ourselves legally, We can destroy our livers and kidneys with p;hamra. But a plant is evil and needs regulation. That is how stupid this whole thing is. Also, Vice sucks.

  33. Miguel Barrios on April 16, 2022 at 7:12 pm

Weed is a cure for seizures and stress because it relaxes your brain.

But it makes you too relaxed that it reduces your thinking.

  34. badfoody on April 16, 2022 at 7:12 pm

i think the problem with weed isn’t really the drug itself. it’s the attitude people have towards it, like the drug is some kind of magical elixir. for fuck’s sake man, it’s a downer, that’s all it is. you pop a joint, steam it or whatever. have fun. do weed responsibly

  35. John Doe on April 16, 2022 at 7:15 pm

i can already tell you and predict the outcome just by saying, you wont be able to take over a market when you charge more than the market players youre trying to compete against. simple economics. i think its mostly so users dont go to jail.

Did big tabacco tell you to do this

  40. Gerardo G on April 16, 2022 at 7:19 pm

Hailing from Uruguay, the system works quite well but the problem is compromise and requiring registration to get legal weed puts off some people from quitting the illegal market. still a lot of improvement has been realized on fighting drug dealers and so on. I just can’t understand why weed was ever made illegal in the first place…..there’s no longer any question that making weed illegal is only good for the drug traffickers…

living in corpus, when someone says "legal weed" I am under the assumption of that is K2/spice, which is what the crackheads in corpus call "legal"…

Canadian bud from legal dispensaries is TRASH

  46. Ralph Cantrell on April 16, 2022 at 7:26 pm

The "War on Drugs" is the single most stupid, destructive thing that has ever happened to Americans. Period. It has cost us a trillion dollars. It has imprisoned an entire generation of Americans and ruined their lives. It has completely eroded our civil rights and left us living in a bona fide "police state". It reigned in the era of ruthless drug cartels and caused the murders of thousands of people. And worst of all, it didn’t even work. There is about the same percentage of Americans hooked on drugs today as when it all began around 50 years ago. If it doesn’t make you mad, you are either a cop, a drug kingpin, or an old white republican.

  47. gonz palacios on April 16, 2022 at 7:29 pm

I disagree with this video n i agree with @Laura Cornwell 100%. The fact that I can go buy or sell really good weed legally makes it alot better than buying or selling against the law.. Can you imagine doing time for WEED? And the weed from mexico cant compare with canadian weed and the weed has become way cheaper with the legalizing of it … now i can be wrong but this is the case at the bottom of the totem pole

  48. True Anonymous on April 16, 2022 at 7:29 pm

  49. Caillou The Annoying Brat on April 16, 2022 at 7:30 pm

Don’t or do legalize it. I’ll still grow it everywhere and get high AF, I don’t care if it’s legal, just like a crack addict don’t give AF if crack is legal. You cant change my mind either. I’m getting high man.
