SIDE NOTE- The writing staff of MN1 runs out to research the “hunch” that Burger companies are heavily lobbying Federal and state governments to legalize cannabis marijuana. Its a Munch Hunch. Cheeseburgers and cannabis investing are same buying demographic. HMMMMM.
Now the Story—
THE CHEESEBURGER WAS INVENTED BY A TEENAGER IN CALIFORNIA
(We know what you’re thinking: WTF? Bare With Us and Read On you cannabis mogul, you!)
The legend has it that a 16-year-old working in his parent’s sandwich shop slapped some cheese on sizzling beef as an experiment and the American cheeseburger was born. The restaurant was called the βRite Spotβ in Pasadena, CA and the kid’s name was Lionel Sternburger. Yesterday, September 18th was National Cheeseburger Day, and jeepers, if we are writing about Cannabis, we are subliminally writing about food.
An early example of the cheeseburger appearing on a menu is a 1928 menu for the Los Angeles restaurant O’Dell’s which listed a cheeseburger smothered with chili for 25 cents. Other restaurants also claim to have invented the cheeseburger. For example, Kaelin’s Restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky, said it invented the cheeseburger in 1934. One year later, a trademark for the name “cheeseburger” was awarded to Louis Ballast of the Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Denver, Colorado. According to Steak ‘n Shake archives, the restaurant’s founder, Gus Belt, applied for a trademark on the word in the 1930s.
Cheeseburgers are uniquely baby boomer, but the target market for cheeseburgers aims low at teenagers and high at 60 – 70-year-olds, who recall the drive-ins of their youth. I can also tell you these are the 2 segments of investors who are buying cannabis stocks.
JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs know these polarized investor groups come together when they are choosing growth stocks, and they land on cannabis, blockchain, and Bitcoin. Oddly, the technology-driven youth of our nation are picking the same cannabis stocks as their grandfathers according to industry experts who follow cannabis. The experts also think CBD is a huge factor in the current demand cycle appealing to both age groups.
Many public companies are listing in Canada and launching businesses in and around cannabis derivatives for the first time, and investors are digging deep learning about smaller companies who are developing niche businesses.
Our writing team concluded that acquiring this research made us hungry, so we are heading out for burger – a quintessentially – American thing to do, no matter your age.
Happy belated Cheeseburger Day, and Thank You Lionel Sternberger.
Notes: The editor has not seen the Market News First writing staff for several hours. Issuing a ‘Hamber Alert’ for the staff. Last seen in someone’s car hidden in plumes of smoke. Believed to be at any burger joint; especially if it is called burger joint.
