Cannabis retailers say they're being pushed out by B.C. government stores

Private retailers in B.C. say government-owned dispensaries could force small mom-and-pop shops to shut down. They accuse B.C. of using tax dollars to subsidize the government stores, allowing them to sell products with slim margins.

That is the plan to take over the drug dealing, using their muscle (POLICE) to take out the street dealers and regulation to take out the "legal stores" – the BIGGER GANG usually wins it all 😉

I didn’t know BC operated differently than most other provinces. Odd that they didn’t just hand it over to private retailers.
Edit: Looks like I’m wrong, only a few provinces went strictly private whereas most blended the two.

Wait, BC government stores have a low price? Are you kidding me?

  5. Associated Blacksheep and Misfits on July 28, 2022 at 3:21 am

Would support local business, only way to compete with the suits.

  6. Spongbobz on July 28, 2022 at 3:21 am

Almost like the government doesn’t want small businesses to succeed… imagine that.

  7. Bobby Daniel on July 28, 2022 at 3:22 am

The way I have seen it, when the government got involved my suppliers got cheaper. Keep up the good work Canada. Still not contributing tax.

  8. Andrew Skipsey on July 28, 2022 at 3:23 am

    Okay, I’m fine with this.

Oligarchs in Canada get a break.

  10. rsss on July 28, 2022 at 3:31 am

It was always going to be more cost effective for the province to sell directly to the public. It’s cruel that they set up the system to lure people into business ownership just to take over the market.

I won’t buy from Government stores.

  12. Paul Allen on July 28, 2022 at 3:40 am

    Not surprised

  13. Shawn David on July 28, 2022 at 3:41 am

Pretty hard to compete with a government corporation with a huge overtaxed tax base!, Remember, this government fought tooth and nail to prevent legal cannabis for decades. Liquor sales also. Casinos were a ethics question also, now look at them, laundering money like nobody’s business, without consequence!, and they were concerned about ethics!, 😆 🤣 😂 lol.

  14. random on July 28, 2022 at 3:42 am

    Weed not greed 😂🤪

  15. Lssck Worthington on July 28, 2022 at 3:43 am

Sorry I don’t wanna pay more! We’re paying enough with everything going up.

  16. phaed .tingley on July 28, 2022 at 3:44 am

not sure what people thought would happen, the biggest source of revenue since casinos and you thought you would get a piece of the pie. the house always wins

  17. K H on July 28, 2022 at 3:47 am

Not sure why everyone is acting surprised, it BC that has had only NDP and Liberals as provincial government..

  18. ROAD DOG GYPSY on July 28, 2022 at 3:47 am

Government makes it so government makes money only.

Its pointless when they want it all lol

  19. ScreamingReelsTV on July 28, 2022 at 3:50 am

I wonder how many of these shop owners illegally sold weed for YEARS. Either for profit or to pay for their own supply. It’s not like someone wakes up one day and figures they’ll open a weed store. They were probably already deeply involved in the subculture. Never paid taxes on that income and were involved in organized crime. No sympathy from me.

  20. Lunar Wuffy on July 28, 2022 at 3:54 am

Seems like a huge conflict of interest having the Government supply the weed to private stores, and at the same time sell directly to the consumer.

  21. Progressive Canadian on July 28, 2022 at 3:56 am

So far, Vancouver only has independent stores, no BC Government owned stores as of yet (unless you include Burnaby).

  22. Nick Will on July 28, 2022 at 3:57 am

The stores should have been set up like the LCBO. Why are we having all these random pot shops opening on every corner and now they complain. They heard get rich quick at the start, thats when only a few handful of dispensaries were open.

  23. DaKrawnik420 on July 28, 2022 at 3:58 am

    lol @ $46.99+tax for 1g of shatter.
    No.
    Sell online. Stores are wack.

  24. test40323 on July 28, 2022 at 3:59 am

The black market cannibis offers no standard of quality, dosage and safe access. Why are legal shops trying to compete?

  25. Brandi Minor on July 28, 2022 at 4:05 am

Is it normal in Canada for the government to open for-profit businesses that compete in the economy?

  26. Jack Jardine on July 28, 2022 at 4:06 am

Legal doesn’t mean fill yer pockets boys. After the “shake out” more economic weed stores will emerge. Love the green market, keeping it real.

  28. mine own on July 28, 2022 at 4:14 am

The consumer gets low prices, the government is bringing in revenue …. I’m failing to see the downside .

  29. Cathy Debolt on July 28, 2022 at 4:15 am

The government wants ALL the money!!!!! Bc hydro. Bc ferries. 🙄
