Thailand becomes the first Asian country to partially legalize Marijuana | DW News

Thailand plans to give away 1 million marijuana seedlings to encourage growers — getting high, however, could still be punished. A legislation allowing the cultivation of cannabis in Thailand came into effect on Thursday. The law, also allowing the use of cannabis in food and drinks, is a first of its kind in Asia. Although Thailand is not following the Uruguayan or Canadian models of legalizing recreational marijuana, it is seeking to boost hemp agriculture and medical tourism.

Grow but don’t smoke
Thailand is strongly promoting growing cannabis and using it for medicinal purposes, but it is still encouraging people not to smoke pot. The government is not allowing the possession or sale of cannabis extracts containing more than 0.2% of its psychoactive ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC. That’s around 20 to 40 times less than modern recreational cannabis designed to influence people’s state of mind would likely contain. In a warning against recreational use, the government said smoking pot in public could be considered nuisance, due to the smell. That’s punishable with up to a 3-month sentence and a fine of 25,000 Thai baht ($780, €728).

The only regulations should be is no harsh intoxic chemicals being used to either extract or as they’re growing nutrition either way concentrates as well should not be illegal there are many people who need concentrated medicinal medicine and even in Recreation standpoints there’s nothing to actually worry about when you actually cultivate and use extraction methods such as water bubble hash and ice or dry shifting but I believe in living soil growing and living with a biodiverse environment

Why prices are so high 🤤🤤🤤🤔? I thought that Thailand will have honest prices…lower than Canada at least…usually almost everything is cheaper there…is it taxes???

  24. Àdrienne Marie Rozario on July 31, 2022 at 4:05 am

Well technically India culture has a historic ties with the Ganja in Asia but, also specifically connected to Shiva shakes. Good to see a Thailand honoring the Sacred herb of Pi ratio in the Fibonacci sequence.

  26. Rolly Jr. Lim on July 31, 2022 at 4:07 am

I think marijuana can be legalized but only for a limited access and its use should be controlled by our government and science department. It can help a lot especially in the treatment of serious illnesses. The only cure that can be found is from here, which has been proven in countries like America where it is legal. And it has been legal for a long time. But it must be thought and planned well how to operate it well and not be abused, because it is of great use in science and the field of discovery. I hope you don’t criticize me, because this is just my opinion. May God guide us all ! 🙏😇🙏❤

Its not cannabis that creates mess, its the person. Privacy loving sharp personalities will smoke it alone/with closed ones for mental relaxation whereas rookies will smoke in public create the mess. Congratulations Thailand ! India is far less educated & corrupt(mediocre’s business) to legalize it in near future. People will slowly understand that THC & CBD can positively impact medicinal, psychological & self-centric (for every individual) needs.

  34. Ron Robinson on July 31, 2022 at 4:13 am

    Free the THC.

  36. Oxford Trenter on July 31, 2022 at 4:15 am

    Congratulations to Thailand, Respect.
As a user who been smoking for 20+ years i must admit Cannabis is completely harmfree,
There is nothing dangerous with it all. Even when i stop using it i have 0 addiction from it like example tobaco and alcohol.

Should we ban alcohol? The future might hold this, it depends, it’s a serious drug that harms the humans a lot and is classed as one of the most harmfull drugs in the world.

  37. Peter Kavanagh on July 31, 2022 at 4:15 am

This message from the giver requires greater discussion. The salughterof animals require the maruqanna relaxant. Then the cannabis reuretn to stability after eating needs stablizing. This maintains better work productions and self control. It is the plant that is opposite to the plant that gives a high. This is antipsychotic.

I switched from high potency THC to High Potency CBD Delta 9 Moon Rocks. I get pounds of CBD and the same effects for 1/8 of the cost.

Legalization leads to regulation. People know what they smoke. More research is better than making it a taboo.

A great step in the right direction, hopefully in the near future the government can create more concrete and clear laws as to avoid misunderstandings and abuse of these "grey areas" by the police for a quick buck. As a neighbour from another ASEAN country, I can only hope that this trend can spread around the region. I also understand why they don’t allow the consumption of it in public, not that different from laws in some states in the US, that also doesn’t allow consumption of marijuana in public space. Also Keep in mind that this is still the at its beginning stages, so as time goes on and the stigma around marijuana lessens, we could see more lax laws on percentages of THC in extracts and places where consumption is allowed.

  50. Alec Nevaeh Hunley on July 31, 2022 at 4:30 am

Regardless of use they don’t need to regulate the strength of the cannabinoids such as thc most of what they have is cbd or hemp not something of huge value an they teach they out dated information on cultivars an how you can grow is absolutely ridiculous
