Brian Ross is joined by NORML Executive Director Erik Altieri to talk about the federal challenges faced by legalizing marijuana at the state level. Currently, marijuana is federally illegal in the United States and a schedule I controlled substance. Although many states have legalized marijuana for both recreational and medical use, there are many challenges that come with the divide between federal and state laws.

BS, state the references!….you guys are no better than the people denying that tobacco has adverse effects until after 60% of people got cancer

  4. Joe Smartballs on October 17, 2022 at 7:39 am

We speak english in English Common Law. So all marijuana laws are nule and void. Marijuana is a Spanish word. Every word in US laws must be legible in english or it’s automatically VOID. The J in marijuana is not pronounced in english, but spanish. Cannabis is a arabic word. So NORML is full of it. They never been to college and studied government.

Why don’t they tell everybody drinking alcohol in the bars to drink alcohol away from other people and if drinking and driving is so dangerous why do bars have parking lots in the first place

I didn’t pay a lot of attention to the legalization that took place in Canada (where I live) and it sure didn’t turn out the way I thought. I assumed it would have no impact on me, my two sons grew up hating cigarette smoke and I figured that would keep them away from it because it’s mostly what kept me away from it. So it becomes legal and within a few months my back yard (where I have lived for 20 years) is unusable because my next door neighbors have marijuana plants in the back yard and the stench is overwhelming and makes me sick to my stomach. So my pool, my deck and my back yard have sat empty for 2 years plus. The next thing I know my sons have both tried it, one was made sick by it and stopped but the other uses it and I will only say, it has not been a healthy thing in his life. There are always more aspects to any issue than we might think but this sure hasn’t turned out the way I thought it would and I’m pretty bitter about it, I’m probably going to have to sell my home because of it and I really can’t afford to do that so it’s either stay here and let my pool and deck go to waste or relocate and take the economic hit.

If it weren’t for certain cannabinoids I’d be nodding out on opioids right now.

Ridiculous something like cannabis something so minor so inoffensive is categorized as a dangerous substance
It’s a silly game in order to keep the NPC human cattle heard in line consciousness-wise for if they were activated to a higher level controlling the tax slave masses would prove to be much more difficult.

  9. Andra Book on October 17, 2022 at 7:47 am

IT is STILL a gateway drug, there is a ton of evidence and him just saying otherwise doesn’t change that. He;s just making up facts/stories. There are zero facts in this, it;s just his opinion.

  14. MrCdnBeef on October 17, 2022 at 7:53 am

Unfortunately, there is unreasonable pressure to legalize recreational use. The medicinal benefits of from the plant are easily derived and can be distributed in oil and tablet format. There is no need to change the laws around recreational use.

  15. M on October 17, 2022 at 7:54 am

George Jung said I loosely quote –
β€œI am going to jail for bringing a plant over an imaginary line”.
    Judge β€œwell that’s the law”.

The laws against Marijuana is crap.
    Especially in the South.

It should be made legal everywhere. How is alcohol legal which causes people to become violent and obnoxious, yet Weed isn’t legal.

People who smoke cannabis will continue to smoke it …. Those who don’t partake, will continue to do just that…. Regulate it and help the economy… very obvious WIN for all … I definitely don’t understand the hold up …

    Legalise cannabis in the UK.

  36. F B on October 17, 2022 at 8:23 am

It’s been legal on a federal level in Canada for 4 years now. Nothing is better than being able to do a cross country road trip without worrying about getting arrested for possession. As someone who lives in Quebec, i would never go back to the marijuana prohibition years. You can roll a joint anywhere you want and smoke it peacefully, even in front of a police station. This feeling of freedom is something every human being should be able to experience. The only real challenge that the Americans are facing is the fear of change, also known as "conservatism".

  37. Ida Alexander on October 17, 2022 at 8:24 am

Guess what I learned? Once the federal government puts a matter into the states’ hands, it is then no longer a federal matter. So the federal government is in criminal mode as I type, because the law says they had to remove cannabis from the drug schedule when they turned the legalization of it over to the states. It’s either a state matter, or a federal matter, but it cannot be both.

  38. Brooke Hornback on October 17, 2022 at 8:24 am

Commenting on this has shown me why it’s not legal for medical use in every state .Sadly there’s too many bad humans in this world.πŸ₯Ί

I live in New York and I don’t even know what the laws are I truly think it’s in limbo. I don’t even know if it’s legal to grow that’s what I want to do because it’s all about the money and all I want to do is have something for me to smoke without paying all that money cuz the price went up on the street after it was legalized which is ridiculous freaking greedy people! I could get a medical marijuana license if I want to take away rights to own a gun. I have to be afraid to grow a plant and it used to be a big felony.. the people selling it in the legal states like this one New York they have to wonder how they can get money out of you they don’t care about if it’s good for you which it is for certain people and they don’t care about the healing qualities all they care about is getting money. Who’s going to buy weed from them if it cost more than somewhere else illegal? Say say it’s legal in New York but there’s nowhere to buy it it’s so ridiculous I can’t even stand thinking about it anymore

  44. ROT A. LOT on October 17, 2022 at 8:32 am

Try using no caffeine, no alcohol, no tobacco, only using cannabis, and vaping not smoking it, and eating good fats, and getting active outdoors, and you may be able to quit the cannabis, but this world is so inflamed I think everyone needs the power of the plant. Or some similar catalyst.

  49. CryptoCrypto on October 17, 2022 at 8:35 am

It should be legalized with guidelines on safe consumption. Long term use in high amounts will cause you to create paranoia, anxiety etc. pot does not help with these ailments but exacerbates it.

  50. blk hemi392 on October 17, 2022 at 8:35 am

Marijuana will be finally legalized when it is politically beneficial to those in power. (I.E. to boost poll numbers right before an election)

    Not before.
