just read this in my class and I was like "THIS IS THE MOVIE AUSTIN WAS TALKING ABOUT"
Well I gotta ask – what’s the name of the second song? I recognize it but I can’t quite place it
one detail i liked from an earlier scene, the one where Sister Aloysius and Sister James first speak with Father Flynn in the office to ask him about Donald Miller, was that when Father Flynn was sitting at the desk, the sun was shining in his eyes through the window, making him visibly uncomfortable, and just before the women confront him about the boy, he gets up and closes the blinds and stands with his back to the window. idk if it’s significant or if i’m reading too much into that moment, but it seemed like it was meant to communicate that he was uncomfortable being on the spot and wanted to hide.
Very unfair comparison with the music, given you didn’t play the beginning of the original composition, just the bit that was cut out and made popular.
" And cut your nails."
I remember Megaman 10 PhilipseymourhoffMan stage and he is banging dope asking me not to leave like he is in a Chris Farley Biopic telling me he is gonna bang me so hard. Needless to say I never got to the Dr. Wiley stage on that one.
There was a clip on psychology I saw a long time ago that makes me think of one of the interesting scenes in the movie. When she questions father Flynn on whether or not he gave donald wine, he says no, but shakes his head up and down, almost acting as a non-verbal confession
I dont know how to tell you this but the first song made me emotional. Stop calling heavy metal bad music. this movie is great.
what if I told you I emotionally connected with both equally?
well really I connected with the first one marginally more but close enough so we will call it a tie.
This is also one of my favorite films. Personally I think this is Meryl’s best role, highly “overrated”.
Each time I watch another incredible performance by PSH I get angry 😡 at him for his selfish act of Over Dosing and leaving us. Hoffman, u left us much too soon 💔
This is such a great movie
NO. not the second music. the first one because it’s fucking slipknot.m/
You are so smart, shit!
I’ve never heard such a poetic analysis before!
Great job man!
I had no idea how subtle and important the nuances of acting are, including the setting of the scene and the verbal and visual language of the actors as well as the sound effects. This all came together beautifully to create a wonderful piece of theater. Thank you for explaining this to us.
Amazing video for a Masterpiece of a film, you should do more analysis about this film, the symbolisms you mentioned
One of my favorite films too.
Awesome video, loved it
The second piece of music is from the first movement of a Mendelssohn Violin concerto in case anyone is wondering…
Streep does a lot of stock mannerisms in her roles…so much the same. She is overrated.
i love this video & this movie so much
What if you were neutral to both musical pieces? Am I dead inside? In which case… who cares?
I bought the Tron: Legacy OST and Halo series OSTs. Some of Silent Hill’s OSTs seem to fit as well. (There are more, but…)
I really enjoyed your observations. Lots of respect! Interesting to me is that I never heard any reviewer comment on the other character in the room. The wise and inescapably obvious choice of GREEN as the choice of color which symbolizes neutrality. Brilliant. Whose choice would this would have been? Also, I never saw the Broadway version. Was it also green? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Too much information. Let the audience member decide.
I don’t know, I would much rather listen to more of that metal song than the classical one.
I liked the first song . . then moved on . . goodbye .
I’m a metal head. I was by far more emotionally connected to the first piece of music
I read the play in my drama literature class. Very powerful read.
Thank you so much. I just needed a small refresher on tension for my GSCE coursework.
The scene is good, but overwrought, and NOT the best in the film. You are mistaken.
The best performance in the film belongs to Viola Davis, and Amy Adam’s’ quiet chaos is mountains more engaging than Hoffman vs Streep— and this is coming from someone who recognizes Meryl Streep as his favorite living artist.
Okay, I was expecting more Tommy Wisseau than was provided in this video. Honestly, I feel cheated.
This os amazing
I remember Doubt being pretty darn awesome. Mind you anything with Philip Seymour Hoffman usually was.
As an idea for a future film analysis, please explain just how Val Kilmer kills it utterly as Doc Holiday in Tombstone? I can’t for the life of me figure it out. I mean, he was pretty good in The Salton Sea, but Tombstone? Surely more than just good accent work and fake sweat.
The music comparison was like, _"Well, which film are you more emotionally connected to,_ *"The Chronicles of Riddick"* _or_ *"Schindler’s List"?*
I get the point made… but those examples?😂😂😂😂
thank you for the analysis
I stopped watching when you said "curves like a lady." Annoying, to say the least.
I liked the first song. Lol
I think the sister is the true revolutionary!
I saw this movie back in ‘08, wasn’t too impressed by it, but you made some great points breaking down this scene.
I have always considered this the greatest scene in movie history, It’s Satchel Paige and Babe Ruth in the bottom of the 9th tie game and 2 outs. Edge of your seat film history.
nope, it was the first one
Fine, I’ll stop and rent the film.
Austin: "She has the high ground"
me: instantly connects to star wars
You explained this PERFECTLY. Thanks Bro
I like both music
Excellent analysis!
Your analysis of this scene is as surface level as your knowledge of music..
Me: [p] [asks question]
She: [pp] "Why does it matter?"
Me: [p] "Why it matters will be revealed as a consequence of your answer.
Me: [mp] [re-asks question]
I was more emotionally connected to the metal THANK YOU VERY MUCH! lol one of my favorite movies of all time also. Do Quentin tarantino movies like you did in this video. You may have and I don’t realize it.
