German Cabinet approves bill to liberalize cannabis use | DW News

A controversial draft bill on legalizing the recreational use of the drug cannabis was unveiled on Wednesday by German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach after it was approved by the German Cabinet.

The draft law would make it legal for people over 18 to possess up to 25 grams (0.9 ounces) of cannabis and to cultivate up to three plants for personal use.

There will also be approved so-called cultivation associations. Often referred to as cannabis social clubs, they provide their members with home-grown cannabis products.

Yes – regulating this medicinal herb is the answer. What an ideal model – cannabis doesn’t harm anyone. I agree that children shouldn’t be allowed to use it.

The pediatrician argument is easily shot down when you ask them, "couldn’t you say the exact same thing about alcohol?" Watch how quiet they get, that or start tripping over their own words trying to search for a justification or argument to the contrary.

As a weed user I couldn’t recommend the entertainment use of it, only if doses and you use it under a medical follow up, don’t play around your brain chemicals try not to make a Conditional connection between your happiness and using supplements

  18. peter harlowe on November 23, 2023 at 5:13 pm

well done from UK Germany. Very forward thinking of you. Although it is yet to be de criminalized here the police here are quite tolerant as long as you are sensible and respect other’s space when smoking

  24. Bogdan Zaharia on November 23, 2023 at 5:24 pm

I was thinking that if Germany was going to legalize weed it will snowball to other countries and make them realize that it is not as bad as alcohol ,nicotine and gambling which are already legal for decades… Meanwhile in Romania, starting a month ago when Germany made it legal they began being even more against it putting more drug test in traffic stops, doing more searches, making it look really really bad on TV on EVERY single chanel they can like never before, putting people in jail for like at least 1 year for as little as 1gram … Looks like my country is WAAAY behind the rest of the world much more than I thought and it’s sad.. They could at least consider the medicinal part of it and do something about it cause for me, a person with hemophilia which has acute and sever pain every single day it will be a game changer for the quality of life. I’m not saying that I do smoke but for the past 4 years of not smoking it I’ve cut out all the opioids painkillers from my life that were making me fiscally sick and miserable and I can live a decent life..

  29. cmjxh on November 23, 2023 at 5:31 pm

to be honest I think weed is way better than alcohol. But alcohol is only legal due to the cultural impact it has on all of europe. i would have rather had a pothead parent than an alcoholic one.

  30. adrianmardari on November 23, 2023 at 5:32 pm

Good for Germany! In Romania they just raised jail time for posesion only 😢

  43. Anja Albrecht on November 23, 2023 at 5:47 pm

Psychedelics saved me from years of uncontrollable depression, anxiety, and illicit pills addiction. Imagine carving heavy chains for over a decade and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. Believe it or not, in a couple of years they’ll be all over for treatment of mental health related issues.

Mostly it’s just lobbying and big business that made them change their decision. How can it be that no small companies will be allowed to organically grow their business.
