Can Weed Help With Brain Injury in Football? | WEEDIQUETTE

While many NFL players treat the pain from the game with weed, some believe it may also protect against deadly brain injury, yet the league is vehemently against its use.

This episode of Weediquette first aired on VICE TV in 2016. Weed laws in the US have since changed.

In memoriam: Dr. Lester Grinspoon 1928-2020.

Didn’t the NFL announce they would no longer be testing for Marinuana? If so that is a huge step forwards!

Alot of former NFL players have advocated for the league to lift the ban on cannabis. It’s the most natural form of medicine there is

YAY! Brain Damage! 🀨 And in response to "DRUGS!" = Alcohol aka. Ethyl Alcohol IS A DRUG! Which causes a great deal more brain damage that most substances that are "illegal". And CBD (even though it may not benefit players) is NOT Psychoactive!
Got with it. Get with the medical literature please. Hallucinogens (of which THC is one of them, CBD is not) can help massively with brain transmission being Neoplastic to rewire how certain areas of the brain can correspond with each other. Passively reversing brain-damage.

If the research is good, and shows that it prevents cte, then great. But I can’t help but wonder, why is it fine to let all these players and everyone around them to suffer so greatly simply because it’s entertaining? It breaks my heart that we can’t just change the rules so there’s no headfirst tackles or something, or use flags? How can you watch Brian and his family in so much pain and just dismiss it as part of the game. Change the goddamned game.

After 6 brain surgeries from a car accident 22 years ago, I now smoke marijuana because it’s the only thing that stops my seizures.

  14. @bradaleakz on February 12, 2024 at 1:49 am

not easy to talk about the effects of concussions after football especially after college football before the rules of no two a days and concussion protocols lol you can’t deny it’s there after hitting your frontal part of your brain for years and settling into the real world.

  15. @michaeltaylor4271 on February 12, 2024 at 1:50 am

The issue is the leagues don’t care about the players. And that’s in any sport. They all would sweep this right under the rug if they could. And they even have before in the past numerous times. They don’t put rules in place or anything untill they are pressured to do so. And it dosent matter what it is really the league just dosent care about the players, they want production, and these teams know that in 3-5 years they will be able to go out and find another player for that position that’s just as good so why care if they last 20yr? And they have the mentality that β€œthe strong survive and the weak give up.” But not when your pushing your body to that limit, and some peoples bodies can’t hold up during that. But yea this is a real issue in pro sports no doubt.

I stopped playing football my sophomore year of college, after I had a petite mall seizure. I got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and I woke up on the floor. Covered in urine and my head had missed the toilet by only a few inches.

That was my wake up call that something was going to give. I got out before things went South.

Cannabis helped me with stress and the pains that still linger. I’m thankful to live in a state that has legalized it.

  18. @Caleres on February 12, 2024 at 1:52 am

Should we let kids play a game that gives them traumatic brain injuries that change their entire personalities for the rest of life, or should we let them play a sport that doesn’t involve injuring your central nervous system permanently? Hmmmmm tough choice but I think they should stick to tennis/soccer/swimming/literally any other sport that doesn’t ruin your brain

  19. @PrivateJellyJose on February 12, 2024 at 1:53 am

    Weed can help with ANYTHING!!!!

  20. @auroraboobiealice6352 on February 12, 2024 at 1:56 am

More to the point, playing football, pro or otherwise while knowing the risks of certain injury, brain & otherwise is ignorant & not worth any amount of money or fame.

  21. @jdkgcp on February 12, 2024 at 1:59 am

Can weed treat CTE’s? Go ask Antonio Brown. There’s your answer.

Sure weed can treat CTE’s… about as much as alcohol or cocaine can I suppose. Weed is great but it never has been and never will be some magical cure for….checks notes… anything and everything? Apparently?

My brother played baseball like a maniac, never stepped out of the way of a ball, no matter how fast it was going, took a lot to the head. There was one point he wasn’t just stuttering, he couldn’t even talk. He smokes, and he’s about as normal as anybody else. I’m sure he’s got his issues but watching him going from being unable to say a sentence, to being one of the best car salesman where he works, it’s absolutely maddening, that they aren’t looking into this.

  23. @adamphillips2254 on February 12, 2024 at 2:03 am

Sweet let’s give them a greater chance of seizures, memory loss/development, and impaired decision making. But yeah other than that yeah give them marijuana πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Seems more than likely that the beginning of the end of football for the player is the end of truth for its players, or whatever the kids are saying these days 🀦🏿 Tragic. Sports sure ain’t how it was. Once they started freaking all of the kids out, it was GAME then πŸ˜…πŸ˜… πŸ˜‚

The fact that weed is illegal in most parts of the world is telling sign of how retarded every government is when alcohol is legal. Ain’t no one on weed gets aggressive while some folks on alcohol picks fights and beats their spouses.
