10 things I Wish I'd known before Growing Cannabis!

10 things I wish I had known before I began growing cannabis

How many cannabis growers have you spoken to who will admit that they only discovered some extremely useful facts once they had already started growing cannabis?

In truth, it is not really anyone’s fault. Often it is just a case that we all have a habit of making assumptions about things we don’t really know enough about.

As an example, contrary to what you may have assumed, growing cannabis outdoors isn’t difficult. The only reason most people don’t is because they don’t want to get caught growing cannabis!

If you choose the right plant, growing outdoors can actually end up being a lot cheaper.

Next, keep a grow diary.

Record everything you do for two reasons.

If it all goes well, then you have something really useful to refer back to for your next grow, and if something goes wrong, you have a list of what you have done, which will help identify any mistakes you have made.

Don’t assume that because you managed to successfully grow some cannabis the first time you try, you’ve got it all sussed. Lady luck can be your best friend at times, but she won’t always be there to protect you.

Be prepared to always listen and learn from others.

If you buy some cannabis and find a ‘bonus’ seed in the pack, don’t assume you can grow a plant from it that will give you a free harvest.

Chances are the seed will be a ‘hermie’, a hermaphrodite with male and female parts, and you’ll end up with a small yield.

Always buy your seeds from a reputable supplier.

Check your pH levels every day. If the pH level of the soil is wrong your plant or plants won’t feed, and we know what will happen when that occurs…

Read up about vapour pressure deficit or VPD.

VPD involves getting the perfect balance between humidity and temperature and is key to the best results.

Morning is the best time to feed your plants.

They prefer to take in oxygen through their roots at night-time, and soggy fertilised soil will stop that from happening.

Next, be attentive.

Cannabis plants aren’t the same as houseplants – they can’t be left to their own devices for days at a time.

Cannabis plants can be remarkably sensitive and you can kill them within 48 hours if you don’t act smart.

Think about investing in a drip feeder. This means that the plant gets a regular supply of food without drenching the soil, but it also takes pressure off you to always be there to feed it, or them.

Finally, use microbes.

They will help break down the soil and enable your plant to take up more nutrients, not just the ones supplied in fertiliser.

Microbes tend to result in juicier buds and healthier plants all round.

Of course that’s just ten things – there are bound to be other things you wished you had known, but this vid will at least have ticked a lot of them off your list!

1.30: So you are saying that extra bonus seeds are always Hermies!!?? What kind of B.S, is that? I has as much chance as the others do to be hermie.
PS: How do you know which one is the extra seeds by the way? Is it labelled : ‘Last Seed?’

  2. @GMT439 on March 14, 2024 at 3:32 am

VPD is bad advice and will get you bud rot. Ignore anyone who talks about it.

To much wild hemp around here to grow outside!

  4. @windowlicker_4207 on March 14, 2024 at 3:35 am

Bwah hahahaha grow diary. Yep. Totally had one of those. Had a few actually. 30 years worth of grow diaries to be specific. My laywer said it was very detailed and specific and that it didnt help my case in the slightest. He said not to do that ever again or he would start charging me more 😂😂
To be completely transparent here, I’ve never referred back to a single grow diary unless im looking up weights from previous grows so theyre pointless. He was right. Dont do that unless you wanna leave lots of evidence behind. 😂😂 it was a costly mistake and i dont recommend it.

Chemdawg was a bag seed. Now its a master breeding phenotype. G13 was basically a bagseed. I only wish i had some of the bagseeds from back in the 80s and 90s.

Dry ash is amazing for growing

  11. @kx1260 on March 14, 2024 at 3:44 am

1:30 do not believe this. Some of my best ever plants have been bag seeds.

  12. @ItsRobbieRob on March 14, 2024 at 3:45 am

Last year, I successfully grew a cannabis plant to harvest using a planter pot with drainage holes, and a plant trolley. I got them for a $1.25 each at Dollar Tree! I filled it with (moist) soil, planted the seed (germination technique optional), watered it from the top ONCE, and kept the trolley filled with water at the bottom and viola! I just kept it outside the whole time and let nature do its thing. No pH checks or anything. Hope that helps.

Some of the biggest strains of all time came from bag seeds

No Money in Cannabis, was involved in legal recreational market in 2015-2019 in Washington. Its a mess. This is where the money is growing something at home now. https://youtu.be/_BpJQ0U7Dpw

  15. @GMT439 on March 14, 2024 at 3:50 am

0:47 : NO!! Only keep a grow diary if you are growing somewhere it is legal to grow of course & never put the information on a computer or phone.

Use more Microbial life amd nutrients more just nkp

  17. @PoshMurder on March 14, 2024 at 3:55 am

When growing multiple strains, don’t forget to check how each cultivar is described to stretch during flower (if this information isn’t available on the product page, contact the breeder – they’re usually very helpful, and feel proud that someone is considering their strain).

Some strains could have a similar height during veg, yet really shoot up soon after the lights have been flipped. Even when the canopy is managed, and you have the branches growing horizontally after a top, they could stretch right over some less stretchy cultivars.

Indica/Sativa won’t help, because with hybridisation you could get many varying heights and qualities from either at different stages of growth. Best to get all the information you can.

Hey i got a question. If the plant is turning the leaf’s yellow at the bottom with brown spots and the others are starting to do this what could it be. I’m only using Alaska fish fertilizer should i add something to stop this or is it a bug?. *Its a outdoors bucket plant*

  19. @keychange5364 on March 14, 2024 at 4:03 am

You also have to run around naked around a fire chanting to an Aztec satanist god….then and only then will it bud 😂😂certainly feels like it with feminised ones.

  20. @davidtucker9460 on March 14, 2024 at 4:03 am

Biggest killer for your plant is overthinking. Give water only when needed and check ph. Give plenty of light for certain hours. Trim when needed. Top if needed. Let it thrive. Towards the end of flowering the plant will take nutrients from itself and begin to wilt and yellow. It’s harvest time. Good luck

I have planted a seed founded in my weed it is growing well. Its on pre flowering stage but there is a question am I going to get qualified buds or not?

  24. @Dougles_prospecting on March 14, 2024 at 4:07 am

One thing this video missed is you NEVER tell your friends the reason they left that out was so they catch you easy NEVER tell friends or family only the people who are going to be in the room with the plants

  25. @NotaBlackGuynamedRicky on March 14, 2024 at 4:08 am

Nobody goes to London for their weed😂. Come to Canada we do it right.

I have some 7 gallon fabric grow pots coming should i just do 1 plant per pot or is it ok to go 2 or 3 per pot?

  28. @wayneanderton4953 on March 14, 2024 at 4:12 am

Inside growing costs way too much and too much trouble. Outside is much easier but I have no isolated land that gets enough sunlight where no one can see it

  29. @KazooieX1 on March 14, 2024 at 4:12 am

the first thing you mentioned is that outdoor growing is cheaper and easier and this is pretty much untrue. whne growing outside you have to deal with bugs and wildlife and even thieves who have their eyes on your crop. its muuuuch safer to grow indoors

Too hot to grow outside here this year. Got a green house (6′ x 6′) and when the temp is 105 outside it gets up to 120 in the greenhouse with side vent, roof vent and door wide open. Plant is burning. This is the mid west.

  40. @fullTimeVeganinOhio on March 14, 2024 at 4:21 am

That’s not really true about the one seed. If you find just one and not several… chances are it’s a stress seed which is most likely female. If you find more than one then yes go ahead and assume it’s a Hermie

  41. @F4Insight-uq6nt on March 14, 2024 at 4:22 am

Some of the best strains originated from bag seeds. They do not always hermie, you have just as much chance of getting a female plant. If grown from bag seeds the plant will be an F2 Hybrid and probably be a little less impressive than the F1 Plant it came from.

  42. @PoshMurder on March 14, 2024 at 4:22 am

    Getting a good timer plug.

For years I would get timer plugs that would just have the right numbers stating they could ‘handle’ my light, and they did for a good while… Until the timer function on a plug just stopped working, and I had to manually turn the lights on, and off, until I forked out about £10 on a quality, heavy duty timer with all sorts of guarantees.

  43. @F4Insight-uq6nt on March 14, 2024 at 4:27 am

0:46 NO!!! Do not keep any paperwork at all that links you personally to the grow!!! FOR OBVIOUS REASONS!!!

  44. @joemartin2242 on March 14, 2024 at 4:27 am

Good lighting will be helpful like growers choice, HLG’s, Chilled LED, Photon X.

  45. @dalibor8397 on March 14, 2024 at 4:28 am

If you are growing outside don’t tell your friends where plants are 😂😂😂😂

  46. @scottyoung7852 on March 14, 2024 at 4:29 am

That seed BS isn’t true grow dispo seeds yearly and hav grown some straight fire!! White cherry cheesecake, pie dough both grew huge got a LB off every one of my 5 plants outdoors ITS LEGAL!!

  47. @outcome2715 on March 14, 2024 at 4:29 am

hermaphrodites are actually useful in breeding so it’s not really a bad thing to end up with one, simply collect the pollen and seeds and you can start your own strain orrr a better idea ,make your own feminized plants cause hermies when put with other females plants will pollenate them and sense there isn’t any males genes actually present , those female plants you pollinated with the hermie will produce “feminized seeds” in which will return very good yields when grown right ! 😂🎉

  48. @DavidSchinke-nu1lf on March 14, 2024 at 4:30 am

Growing indoors gives a way higher quality when done correctly because you can control the climate and promote that sticky weed by adding co2 ( smoke weed in the plant room for better nuggets ) in the air and keeping it clean . Growing outdoors gives way more bud tho.

  49. @traviskeith3802 on March 14, 2024 at 4:30 am

Raise and lower the light not the pot of pot plant.

  50. @theblobfish9614 on March 14, 2024 at 4:30 am

Grow diaries are only for those in legal countries. You do not want to keep an inventary of your crimes next to them.
