  2. @benwindbag on April 7, 2024 at 7:54 am

That fact was known way back in the late sixties.

  3. @Ciathos on April 7, 2024 at 7:57 am

Still pushing the “gateway drug” messaging eh NBC?

  4. @pattibyther5802 on April 7, 2024 at 7:58 am

I’m very sorry for her loss, but it isn’t the cannabis, she has blinders on about it. Her son died because he suffered from undiagnosed schizophrenia, which it is possible the cannabis exacerbated, but it didn’t cause it. He had no issued with it until he was 17, when schizophrenia is known to start manifesting (late teens, early adulthood.) The "voices" are huge giveaway.

  5. @BaMerRox on April 7, 2024 at 7:59 am

These kids are doing more than weed. Weed don’t do that to people. No matter how “strong” it is.

  6. @djkennd2 on April 7, 2024 at 8:01 am

It wasn’t the weed. This is propaganda.

  7. @strandeddeep8745 on April 7, 2024 at 8:02 am

Quit giving them weed nbc😂 let them have your choice alcohol 😂😂 you bunch of drunken freaks how many people get killed per year from drunk drivers again😂

  8. @TheHalfworkShaman on April 7, 2024 at 8:03 am

Stop blaming weed he overdosed on a different drug

  9. @tajeshkalia1293 on April 7, 2024 at 8:04 am

There’s nothing wrong with hearing higher beings if you believe that was in your religion and he couldn’t face it probably and that doesn’t have to be skitzophrenic.

  10. @frederik666 on April 7, 2024 at 8:05 am

She just needs something to blame lol

  11. @apl99999 on April 7, 2024 at 8:07 am

why is it still at the 0.83% instead of the 1% rate it was if marijuana causes psychosis wouldn’t the rate be a lot higher and if it is why hasn’t it been updated this is just propaganda

  12. @mopthermopther on April 7, 2024 at 8:09 am

    We need STRONG
marijuana. It increases your brain power. Makes you handsome and smart.

  13. @GnosticMindTrain on April 7, 2024 at 8:11 am

It’s been documented that I have weird beliefs but I don’t hear voices, been like that for years, so I don’t smoke because I don’t want to trigger full on schizophrenia, for now, I don’t seem to fit in any mental disorder.

  14. @heh2k on April 7, 2024 at 8:11 am

10x more powerful than the 90s. 😂 That fool in the bowtie is straight up lying. The 2% came from wild ditch hemp, a bogus sample from DECADES ago, that was never valid. Also 20% is mild weed.

  15. @jackiekerns9944 on April 7, 2024 at 8:13 am

Sounds like he was coming into Schizophrenia which is normal during teen and and early adulthood. It makes you hear voices and believe in other beings not smoking pot. I’ve done since I was 14, so stop blaming the most harmless thing for a mental disorder that the mothers and doctors failed to see

  16. @michaelschweitzer410 on April 7, 2024 at 8:14 am

U dont od on pure weed he was laced ive been smoking 8 years and ive never heard another voice or anything he chose to try another drug he wasnt forced

  17. @Chocolattedee on April 7, 2024 at 8:17 am

The age old Gateway myth has more to do with individual susceptible to addiction partaking in things that they know could be potentially adverse for them. The choice to take pharmaceutical opioids that took the young mans life had more to do with the failures of the people in his life than the initial decision to ‘self-medicate’. I’m noticing a single parent household, a youth who didn’t share the full picture with his parent, and many many choices over an 8 year period that led to the unfortunate conclusion. But fearmongering, rage-baiting, and more will be the tools used to spin a narrative devoid of the whole truth. I hope the individuals tired of being fed story after story decide to take in as much research as possible before making decisions or taking in unnecessary anger or hatred. Be well and I hope kindness finds you all.

  18. @creameedwards9518 on April 7, 2024 at 8:20 am

So she bought weed for her kid but she blaming the weed. She allowed it but lets blame the weed my kids know if i catch them with weed we gonna throw down even though i smoke every day almost .. people who want to blame anyone but themselves are the reason we have a ex president who wont shut up

  19. @OrificeTorture on April 7, 2024 at 8:20 am

in those studies where they found psychosis in MJ users they probs fail to realise that these ppl dont have psychosis bc they smoke pot, these ppl smoke pot bc they have psychosis

  20. @SA-ho1mu on April 7, 2024 at 8:22 am

    correlation does not equal causation

  21. @derekangel7845 on April 7, 2024 at 8:22 am

This sounds like a desperate scramble to identify the current rise in teenage homicides/suicides. Ultimately, this would be such a small factor contributing towards these episodes violence. We need to identify the much deeper rooted problem, which is their daily overload of information. A majority of that information (provided by social media and the internet) is typically negative or non appropriate for their current point in life development.
We need to learn how to shelter our children from the world better, because when you hand a child a device… you’re not allowing your kid access to the world… you’re allowing the world access to your kid. I encourage you parents to focus on spending more time with your children, as much as possible, and sheltering them because obviously the world is tormenting our children and pushing them over the edge out here. From the schools to social media to television and "woke-ism" ideologies corrupting their young minds, we’ve gotta be as involved and proactive as possible to positively influence our children to see through the garbage their looking at everyday.
    It’s imperative.

  22. @suffer4fashion on April 7, 2024 at 8:22 am

Terrible parenting. I don’t care how potent something is, you shouldn’t just abandon your role as a parent when you learn your 14 year old is smoking pot.

  23. @minoxidilbeardandhairprodu4598 on April 7, 2024 at 8:22 am

Yup, happened to me, though I was crazy but I found what was bothering me my whole life and that was being held at knife point as a child by thieves. it gave me flashbacks

  25. @TheTanman412 on April 7, 2024 at 8:24 am

This has been happening as long as people have been consuming hash and cannabis. Those who are susceptible to schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or have a history of mental illness in their family, are always going to have a level of vulnerability that others will not. I agree that cannabis is far too strong, but there’s something else that people don’t talk about enough. The fact that we genetically modified these cannabis plants to be all THC and almost no CBD-the very thing that counteracts the negative effects of THC, let alone an excess of it. People only cared about the part that got them high. Not only did weed back in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s have less THC, it had way more CBD – the non-psychoactive component of cannabis, that needs at least less than 1 % THC to have a synergistic effect (like adding black pepper extract to turmeric, to increase absorption by 900%) CBD from Hemp, without any THC at all- will do little to nothing compared to Cannabis-derived CBD w/ a little THC. This won’t stop someone with a history of schizophrenia in their family tree, from getting triggered. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was much less likely to happen with cannabis that has CBD in it.
If you ever get too high, take CBD oil, or like Neil Young recommends eat black pepper.

  26. @jacobsnewadventures on April 7, 2024 at 8:25 am

There’s just not been enough marijuana scientific research and it shouldn’t be legal anywhere.

  27. @johnsmith7140 on April 7, 2024 at 8:25 am

This is pathetic. Shame on NBS

  28. @Typical.Anomaly on April 7, 2024 at 8:27 am

    Don’t blame weed.
    Blame our sh!tty healthcare system.

  29. @Zentinel_85 on April 7, 2024 at 8:29 am

Which types of weed exactly are causing the most forms of psychosis? I’m asking for a Doctor. A doctor wants to know so you need to tell me now. 📝

  30. @jayyswrld2464 on April 7, 2024 at 8:29 am

Don’t blame it on the weed because you’ve got a weird son

  31. @Devonellah on April 7, 2024 at 8:30 am

They need to stop making it more and more strong… They should go back to the genetics from the 90’s….. Also they have taken out the CBD too much and that protects you from getting too spun out on it…

  32. @FickleTarts on April 7, 2024 at 8:31 am

They always blame the weed but never try to have a better connection with the person. Ok.

  33. @js6728 on April 7, 2024 at 8:34 am

you dont know how to do it

  34. @hifiphono887 on April 7, 2024 at 8:36 am

    NBC News lies!

  35. @michaelcharlesthearchangel on April 7, 2024 at 8:36 am

Blaming marijuana or mushrooms is weak and wanton for a frivalous law suit by a "bad-mom" neuro scientist. I agree that teens should not be intoxicated on marijuana or mushrooms, with an age limit at 18 or 19 for marijuana and mushroom purchases.
I do believe in medicinal use for all ages especially epilepsy patients who benefit from curative properties of marijuana and mushrooms.
But, she did little to parent the boy in that regard. I experimented with pot as a kid like any American today, but at age 21-22, I cut it off for over a decade until I was looking for it again for medicinal use to deal with stress, physical ailments, and mental fatigue.

  36. @koda3967 on April 7, 2024 at 8:37 am

#Teens are not supposed to be accessing #Marijuana. We *know* it messes with underdeveloped brains. 🤷‍♀️

  39. @moonshoes11 on April 7, 2024 at 8:38 am

    Still, less harmful than religion.

  40. @tomtroy3792 on April 7, 2024 at 8:40 am

Marijuana was not less potent you just weren’t getting the good stuff

  41. @TuxBurrito on April 7, 2024 at 8:42 am

Alcohol is the real gateway drug. non smokers will smoke cigs if they drunk enough. They won’t say nothing about alcohol though because of prohibition. Well tabacco and Alcohol taxes are probably the main reason. This is most likely what really happened your son didn’t tell you everything he was doing because you look like you worry to much and jump to crazy conclusions. So he probably was doing other stuff you just didn’t know about like pills maybe others. and trust me even if it was illegal it will still be every where. Which is one of the reasons why they started making it legal anyways so people don’t go get shot in the street and robbed trying to buy it on the streets.

  50. @MrMajid070 on April 7, 2024 at 8:50 am

My question would be, why are you letting your 14 year old child smoke weed?
