The key is that their water has a very low ppm. Which means it also has very little (pH) buffering capacity. Which means that it very quickly adopts the pH of the medium. Even if they use water with a pH of 8.0.

  2. @me53914 on May 10, 2024 at 11:47 am

@ImAnonymoos It would be best to test both but if you buy distilled/purified water the you shouldn’t need to test the water but the soil is CRUCIAL to a good grow, hope this helps.

Thanks Jorge, Studying soil science this year and have an assessment next week (groan). Interesting regarding how soil micro organisms like beneficial bacteria, soil fungi, actinomycetes, algae and protozoa may act as a buffer to the introduction of a high pH water. As the saying goes "the answer lies in the soil" Love you man..

The water may test at 8.0. However,Pure water doesn’t have a PH, It will take on the PH of whatever is in it, ie. that 80ppm. Since 80 ppm isn’t much, the water will take on the ppm of the fertilizers.

  11. @janeseamore1370 on May 10, 2024 at 11:57 am

organic soil is alive. you can find recipes for super soil that all explain each ingredient. you can go without a single liquid fertilizer or ph adjustment entire seedling through harvest.

  12. @NGT4LIFE on May 10, 2024 at 11:57 am

you should actually experiment like i have.when i used synthetic nutrients in the past,i put lime in my soil,i didnt ph adjust my 8.5 ph tap water.i didnt have any lockout problems, but i did in the soil i added no dolomite lime too.
i now grow organically, its even easier.

Jorge, thanks man you’ve helped me from the beginning to where I am now three years later, I still considers myself a novice . I appreciate your help.

  21. @kylegreiwe2483 on May 10, 2024 at 12:06 pm

It simply challenges our understanding of the relation of ph balance- to nutrient uptake. Iv been watching your videos since i was a teenager. I have learned so much from your viddos and your books thanks George. 👍

  22. @franciscohernandez6163 on May 10, 2024 at 12:06 pm

Does the waters ph affect the reading of the ph of the soil reading?

  23. @pac6010 on May 10, 2024 at 12:09 pm

Really the PH of your water just doesn’t matter in soil as much. The soil will always have microbes in it that adjust it to what the plant needs to take up nutrients. As long as you are organic and are not using chemicals that kill off the soil biology. I grow a garden every year with my 8 PH water and clay bound soil, everything from tomatoes to herbs. They all do well and produce huge yields with no problem. Cannabis is no different but like he said indoor pots would need to be watched.

  24. @alekseifinageiv6761 on May 10, 2024 at 12:09 pm

i think why jorge dont pull the fukll water in the pot after my third time seen this video i see that the water was going to strong and if he put the full water wopukld jumo water in his face, jorge is experience!

  25. @whothefoxcares on May 10, 2024 at 12:10 pm

Watch out where the huskies go, and don’t drink melted chem-trail snow …

  26. @rockyta21 on May 10, 2024 at 12:10 pm

Ground oyster shells (ground or crushed) also help to buffer/balance ph. Too bad they are so hard to find in the mountains 🙂

  27. @ImAnonymoos on May 10, 2024 at 12:11 pm

So instead of pHing my water, I guess I should pH my soil?

  28. @Benswan187 on May 10, 2024 at 12:12 pm

Wow! Some people just bang on and on……

  29. @rockyta21 on May 10, 2024 at 12:12 pm

    Great video Jorge! Thank you

  30. @TheCrunchymango on May 10, 2024 at 12:13 pm

im pretty sure that water (the one that had the PH of 8 was used?) would of not given you the correct reading ????

  35. @TheGrowCave on May 10, 2024 at 12:19 pm

The pH of the water doesn’t affect the media’s pH. People often do not realize this. To get a better idea of what is going on you need to do a lab test of the water to measure the Alkalinity. Think of Alkalinity as the amount of lime in the water. The higher the Alkalinity of the water the more lime is in the water thus, raising the substrate pH. Usually with high quality water (with medium 2.0 alkalinity) the acidity of fertilizers is enough to keep the pH from rising (you may even need supplemental lime). However, with bad water quality that has 4.0+ alkalinity you will have too much lime to offset the potential acidity of the fertilizer. That is when you need to inject acid into your irrigation or in very poor quality waters may even require iron drench of the substrate/media (soil) if the irrigations alkalinity is raising your soils pH too high.

For example a 8.0 pH water with 2.0 alkalinity will not raise the substrate pH but a water with a pH of 6.8 and 4.0 alkalinity will raise the substrate pH much quicker

  36. @overtonesnteatime198 on May 10, 2024 at 12:27 pm

There’s a lot of life I that soil…. as I compare the trunk of the marijuana tree to his head lol no doubt

  37. @MrShizzy1337 on May 10, 2024 at 12:27 pm

    EXCUSE ME

You didn’t understand what Jorge was demonstrating..
Jorge tested the PH of the water they were using to grow those plants. He was surprised to see it was 8.0 He said the PH of the soil probably neutralized the PH of the water.. Therefore, Jorge correctly used the H2O they water with, mixing it with their soil and just as he predicted, the PH was damn near perfect. 😉

  38. @177988 on May 10, 2024 at 12:28 pm

The main purpose of lime is to increase the pH level of garden soil (making it more alkaline or "sweet"), ultimately correcting the acidity of soil. And, since plants are not able to get the nutrients from soil that is too acid, lime helps vegetables get needed nutrients and grow.

  39. @bazbonehead on May 10, 2024 at 12:28 pm

and thankyou, without your clear, concise and non-patronisng youtube videos, my spanish crops wouldn’t get all the attention deserve. last year i merely ‘planted’ them and left them to it with some irrigation. this year they are getting the full Jorge treatment, fencing for those damned Jabali who just want to dig them up and a completely organic plot with lots of variety and hopefully some fantastic yields come october!

  40. @jimitona7976 on May 10, 2024 at 12:31 pm

    EXCUSE ME..
you are checking PPM.& PH of the water? 8.0
then you check the PH of the soil with tick tack container & pill..? rite.?
soil + Pill powder + water = accurate ph of the soil.. rite?
Did you just use the Alkine water to mix it all up.?
how can you get an accurate reading if your using non neutral water?
my guess is that the soil is a very good drainage soil with all the perlite & vermiculite.
therefore letting exsess alkiline water drain off & not effecting the plant in a harmful way.

I’d like to know your life story too Jorge your a very wise and interesting man and I’d love to see a compilation of pics or old vids from baby to now I know your a writer so you may have already thought of this but your like the superstar of the growing community across the world and I know you have a good story to tell

  42. @Swayzeo on May 10, 2024 at 12:33 pm

could you have used your ph pen for measuring the runoff?

  43. @williamgarman2031 on May 10, 2024 at 12:34 pm

ok its like this; Im growing for my BIG BROTHER, he called me and suggested I add molasses during flush, so I did it…I flushed his plants and poured molasses on all his buds.

I RUINED ALL HIS PLANTS… then he comes over all mad and stuff, and yells at me and called me a stupid dumb ass and then he broke my arm.

now my arm hurts like hell because they had to put a bunch of metal pins in the bones, and they gave me this cement cast that’s itching like crazy

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about what dolomite does in soil and soilless mixes, according to wikipedia (google dolomite) "In horticulture, dolomite and dolomitic limestone are added to soils and soilless potting mixes to lower their acidity and as a magnesium source. Home and container gardening are common examples of this use" dolomite buffers acid only. it does nothing with high pH because it is alkaline"

"In horticulture, dolomite and dolomitic limestone are added to soils and soilless potting mixes to lower their acidity and as a magnesium source. Home and container gardening are common examples of this use" just google dolomite on wikipedia that is where I got this quote. dolomite buffers acid only. it does nothing with high pH because it is alkaline. Hope this helps.

it would of been funny if after drinking the water, he was just like "shit, that was terrible, i shouldn’t have done that"
