DEA proposes reclassifying marijuana as a Schedule Three narcotic

Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officials have proposed reclassifying marijuana (or cannabis) as a Schedule Three drug. Despite a majority of states having legislation allowing for medicinal and recreational use, marijuana it still classified as a Schedule One narcotic along with heroin.
Curaleaf (CURLF) CEO Matt Darin sits down with Catalysts Hosts Seana Smith and Madison Mills to talk about how long cannabis businesses has been waiting for a change like this and what it signifies for the future of the industry and the SAFE Banking Act.
“It’s a long time coming, but I think the findings are really backed in science and backed under a very detailed review that the government did to evaluate the medicinal benefits of cannabis,” Darin says, “and that it truly does belong as a Schedule Three, a substance versus Schedule One on par with things like heroin and fentanyl which all Americans have known for quite some time, just was not right.”

  4. @I_Am_Data_Dawg on May 13, 2024 at 12:51 pm

All they’re doing is turning production and sale over to big pharma and the health care cabal. Schedule III classification would mean without a prescription it would be like getting busted with a jar of Oxy. Cannabis doesn’t need to be re-scheduled, it needs to be De-scheduled. Once again the Biden admin bending over we the people.

  5. @joesphreiley7757 on May 13, 2024 at 12:52 pm

The DEA had 8 months to reschedule Cannabis from a schedule one to a schedule three, it’s ridiculous they are taking this long to get this done.

  6. @MoneyMayle1 on May 13, 2024 at 12:56 pm

Why is it a schedule anything? Alcohol is a schedule 0 and I can get way more wrecked on it than i could smoking. Btw this is coming from someone who drinks and doesn’t even smoke🤷‍♂️

  13. @user-hj5ge6wk3t on May 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm

So make up your mind is it a drug or a herb but it’s legal in DC it’s all a money racket and tobacco is a whole lot worse for u and really addicted but they r legal and cost tax payers $$$$ and take people lives slowly but that’s OK for $

  14. @Brsrafal on May 13, 2024 at 1:01 pm

This means absolutely nothing it should be treated like alcohol and tobacco.

ZThe Fed should just , Make pot Legal recreational in all of the States!

  20. @worryphree on May 13, 2024 at 1:08 pm

The DEA is part of the EXECUTIVE branch, and has no business proposing any change in law, which is the purview of the LEGISLATIVE branch. Also, cannabis is not a narcotic.

  21. @SpOculus33 on May 13, 2024 at 1:09 pm

The fact that Alcohol causes WAYYY more deaths and problems than this; 100% proves, that the government just wants to control us. Those government officials who could change this and take it to legal status, a lot of the use alcohol themselves so that’s why it’s legal.
Plus it’s about money, medical weed is highly taxed… they just want to make sure they control the market 🤷🏼‍♂️

    What about sugar or caffeine?

  24. @Robert-zh1vw on May 13, 2024 at 1:12 pm

Marinol has been schedule 3 for many years. Same active ingredient and is much stronger. It shouldn’t be scheduled at all, this is just money given to a failing industry. Can’t tax like a schedule 1, but will there be generics and will pharmacies carry it. Once legalized like this, look for dozens of pills like marinol and a price increase.

  25. @youngblood2 on May 13, 2024 at 1:12 pm

Marijuana is not a narcotic. Caution to the wind!

  26. @DMAC1301 on May 13, 2024 at 1:15 pm

Well it’s about time. This is a long time coming. Alcohol is way more dangerous.

  27. @jaysmusic7729 on May 13, 2024 at 1:15 pm

After watching generations in my community be villified and go to jail because of this substance to see these types of people talking like this about it lets me know the news should never and will never be trusted by me. I remember just years ago stories by these same types of business dressed folks talking about how the country is being ruined blah blah blah

  28. @DeusVolo on May 13, 2024 at 1:20 pm

This is because student loan repayment has bought enough votes so now this idea might appeal to the youth.

This kind of progress doesn’t come about when conservatives are in control.
    That’s why I’m voting Democrat in 2024. 🙂

  31. @TalkingGIJoe on May 13, 2024 at 1:22 pm

They had no right to classify it in the first place… Should the federal government allow states to legalize pot?
I laugh whenever I hear the “experts” debate this point.  Let me make it very simple for you. The federal government has absolutely no legal authority whatsoever to say what type of drug you can or can’t have or take. None. It isn’t about how dangerous it is.  It has nothing to do with running it through the laughably UNconstitutional FDA. There is really NOTHING to argue about. It is about the simplest argument in the world to understand. And that is precisely why you have never heard it. They don’t let it circulate because they can’t defeat it.
The constitution says Zero regarding any type of regulation or outlawing of “drugs”. Alcohol is a drug. Nicotine is a drug. Pot is a drug. Heroin is a drug. The feds needed a constitutional amendment to outlaw alcohol, and they need one for every other drug. They have no authority without one. If they don’t need one for pot, then why did they need one for alcohol? Why?  There is no “constitutional exception” for dangerousness or anything else. That isn’t law, that is made up nonsense. Laughably absurd in your face foolishness.  Case closed.  Thank you, I’ll be here all week, don’t forget to tip your servers.

Think about it. When “the people” were supposedly “clamoring” for alcohol to be outlawed by the all powerful Oz back in the early 20th century, why didn’t the federal government just outlaw it?  Oh yeah, the inmates weren’t completely brainwashed at that point. The people KNEW the feds didn’t have the legal authority to do that without an amendment. So what did they do?  The overlords waited till the whole world was immersed in a giant war they caused and that’s when they went around and got their Constitutional Amendment passed. Here are the pertinent provisions of that amendment. Note the date.
AMENDMENT XVIII
Passed by Congress December 18, 1917. Ratified January 16, 1919. Repealed by amendment 21.
Section 1.  After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.
Section 2. The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
When the people had had enough of this utter absurdity, which I suspect was foisted on them like every other supposedly “organic movement by the people”, and they were on the verge of revolt, the overlords took a step back and reversed the decision with ANOTHER constitutional amendment. Here it is.
AMENDMENT XXI
Passed by Congress February 20, 1933. Ratified December 5, 1933.
Section 1.  The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.

They’re proposing to have marijuana, a plant, rescheduled to the same schedule as THC… which is derived from that same plant. They’re still nuts.

  33. @Colossus-Tone on May 13, 2024 at 1:25 pm

Never should have been classified to begin with.

  41. @vhoffman1000 on May 13, 2024 at 1:33 pm

It should be schedule 2…medical use, highly addictive, and creates massive effect on social productivity and hault in mental maturation. Look at groups in general that have used it and are known to use it regularly. See their general social status, educuational achievements, and what the consistent long term side effects of those who have and still use it cronically, habitually overall. If you look you will see this drug is as detrimental to high level intellectual pursuits that are in no way comparable to alchohol but rather hard drugs.

  42. @iwalkincircles2960 on May 13, 2024 at 1:34 pm

What does this change? Nothing. It’s still illegal and still an arrestable offensive. It would be no different from having pills without a prescription.
