Boom in investments to the legal cannabis shows it has 'the potential to become a huge industry'.

There has been a boom in investments to the legal cannabis sector.

A new report suggests it could potentially benefit patients in the long run from improved access and affordability of cannabis-based medicines for their conditions.

Gloria De Piero and Liam Halligan speak to George McBridge, CEO of Hanway Associates, who says the sector could bring in more than one billion pounds to the Treasury every year.

Chronic severe pain due to bone disease (Melorheostosis) and having two ribs amputated.

I had to walk past the police with 3 massive kilner jars full of weed, just to make oil to treat my wife’s cancer Why should I be criminalised for treating my wife’s cancer? (PS it worked by the way).

  4. @stevefox8605 on May 23, 2024 at 2:47 pm

Just bloody legalise it FFS!!! Ridiculous, illegal just because its easy to grow and hard to tax. Would much rather be around stoners than drunk people…

  5. @Martin-88 on May 23, 2024 at 2:47 pm

It should have been legalised a long time ago. We’re so far behind other countries on this issue. Sell it at approved shops where people know what they’re buying, tax sales and put the money into drug education and rehabilitation. As it stands we’re leaving the industry in the hands of organised crime. Legalising it is win-win for everyone.

  6. @farawayfindlay4775 on May 23, 2024 at 2:51 pm

Take cannabis out of the hands of the gangs and criminals. Cannabis is the easiest and cheapest plant that anyone can grow. The uk domestic/hobby growers is worth millions already.

  7. @rogerwilson6367 on May 23, 2024 at 2:52 pm

Be interesting to see if Matt Hancock has any investment in it. After all, he was controlling the supply.

  8. @mrboyban on May 23, 2024 at 2:53 pm

Would crack be the next step then?

  9. @ross951 on May 23, 2024 at 2:53 pm

I’ve been selling it to high school kids for years and some of them have managed to achieve great things. Time to legalise!

  10. @liamsmith1812 on May 23, 2024 at 2:54 pm

I smoke weed for my Mania which really does help but really upsets me it helps me more than the doctor’s with all their screwed up meds

  11. @liamsmith1812 on May 23, 2024 at 2:55 pm

They predicted 6 billion pounds to the economy if it was legalised btw

  12. @InimitaPaul on May 23, 2024 at 2:56 pm

I’m not sure there’s as much profit, initially, as they think. This is just me but given the choice I’m growing my own so I know what’s in it and can grow any strain I like.

  13. @richtea615 on May 23, 2024 at 2:58 pm

    Stop taking drugs.

  14. @esme68 on May 23, 2024 at 2:58 pm

    Only a million? Hahahahaha.

  15. @cordyone on May 23, 2024 at 2:58 pm

Better check my investments then, cus the last time I checked they were all in the red.

  16. @Pange3 on May 23, 2024 at 3:01 pm

Legalise for medicinal purposes and with the same as for alcohol. Driving and using machinery.

  17. @ddp2659 on May 23, 2024 at 3:03 pm

It’s legal in my house nothing like home grown

  18. @61shirley on May 23, 2024 at 3:03 pm

As a long term ex user myself I would disagree with legalisation.
I’ve seen many lives ruined and stunted because of cannabis.
It has little to know benefit when used recreationally.

  19. @colinandrew7423 on May 23, 2024 at 3:03 pm

They will make it legal but your 20 bag will cost you 40

  20. @cf3619 on May 23, 2024 at 3:04 pm

Say no to drugs people. Cannabis stinks & leads to mental health problems. Drugs ruin lives, families & communities.

  21. @Jack-fs2im on May 23, 2024 at 3:05 pm

And the cost of mental illness to the NHS

  22. @nickbutler7935 on May 23, 2024 at 3:06 pm

As a Chronic pain suffer of many years I would strongly support this. None of the prescribed pain medication brings much noticeable relief, it would also save the NHS a fortune over the many pills I am currently having to take.

  23. @headshot6959 on May 23, 2024 at 3:07 pm

The problem when people go on a ‘march’ for the legalisation of cannabis, it degenerates into a ‘wander’ after about 200 yards.

  24. @raymondglaser8481 on May 23, 2024 at 3:10 pm

You need some level of education for any position in medicine. Don’t let people who don’t know weed control a medicine.

  25. @GBNationalist on May 23, 2024 at 3:11 pm

Tobacco and Alcohol kill millions every year. Marijuana has never killed anyone, someone being dumb while smoking weed and being run over isnt weeds fault, its the idiot taking it at fault.

So why should Marijuana be illegal when you can smoke tar sticks around kids in public?

I suffer from debilitating anxiety, depression and insomnia. I have used Marijuana for years and it helps me function, it allows me to leave the house, it allows me to have a life. Ive tried over 10 different anti depressants and anti anxiety tablets, they do nothing but make me far worse, sure though your nicotine addiction is totally a better reason.

Who is anyone to tell me what medicine works best for me? Or whether I should be allowed to use it or not? Again, millions of you smoke tobacco around kids in public spaces but say I cant smoke my plant because it "smells bad". There is no scientific evidence against it while there are hundreds of reasons not to allow cigarettes just by looking at their chemical ingredients.

The culture that the governments in the western world has created around Marijuana is utterly disgusting.

    Legalize it.

  26. @Will-vs5kp on May 23, 2024 at 3:11 pm

No illegal drugs = no black market = no associated crime

Legalize it, regulate it’s quality and tax it. Upstanding members of society won’t turn themselves into meth heads just because of its legality.

  27. @parko1965 on May 23, 2024 at 3:12 pm

Companies drug test for cannabis use going back 21 days, so we have to have 3 weeks off after a smoke.

  28. @seanpidduck on May 23, 2024 at 3:14 pm

Many like myself dream of becoming an independent cannabis grower and running my own shop but no doubt the state will sell us out to the American corporations. The fact they offer you fentanyl over weed is evidence that stuff is destroying the US

  29. @Planet-Bertie on May 23, 2024 at 3:14 pm

The pharmaceutical companies don’t want it legalised unless they can control and make huge profits from it. Pharmaceutical companies lobby politicians. It’s so obvious that British politicians will say they will fully legalise cannabis next time they want our vote.

  30. @cashkitty3472 on May 23, 2024 at 3:15 pm

They are already sorting increases in mental health issues in States in US where it’s legal. Not sure this is good idea. Maybe do some more investigations first

  31. @Pange3 on May 23, 2024 at 3:16 pm

What about driving under the influence of cannabis?

  32. @christinemary7101 on May 23, 2024 at 3:19 pm

For medical use, I agree with it

  33. @leofriel4556 on May 23, 2024 at 3:20 pm

IT ALREADY IS A HUGE INDUSTRY.

  34. @tinotreloar8251 on May 23, 2024 at 3:23 pm

Only a hundred years too late 🙄 just legalise it

  35. @djackson006 on May 23, 2024 at 3:24 pm

    Let’s keep it small plz.
Friends and family license, medical license, sellers license, weed bar license.
There’s no need to all w corporation to extract this wealth.
I think only allowing the over 50’s to grow is worth a look too.
    Retirement money for all.

The multiple uses needs to be examined.
Hempcrete would solve the highrise flat cladding problem for example.
Or carbon neutral fuel. Biodegradable plastics etc.

  36. @DJItchyBoo on May 23, 2024 at 3:24 pm

    In other news from 2006…

  37. @giorgoc5915 on May 23, 2024 at 3:26 pm

If it is legalised the greed of the corporations will make sure there will still be a black market.

  38. @majmat on May 23, 2024 at 3:26 pm

Legalize 100% for everyone over 18.

  39. @matthewsmith2787 on May 23, 2024 at 3:27 pm

Alcohol is statistically more dangerous than cannabis

  40. @imputaniumAAQF on May 23, 2024 at 3:29 pm

Tourettes for me, cannabis has been a life changer after removing myself from a strong psychotropic medication for 20 years

  41. @captainbuggernut9565 on May 23, 2024 at 3:30 pm

As someone who lived next door to a daily cannabis user. I hope no one ever has to put up with it. The stink is all pervasive. The VOC’s cause illness and trigger allergies in people around them. Then there is the erratic, paranoid behaviour that accompanies it. The absolutely huge issue of people driving while under the influence of it as well. Before someone mentions alcohol, it would never be legalised today, if it were illegal.

  42. @haroldmerewether1224 on May 23, 2024 at 3:31 pm

Cannabis is an estrogenic plant, it will kill your sperm and give you man boobs. Studies have been done

  48. @Warren2490 on May 23, 2024 at 3:38 pm

    Get that shit legal! 🤯

  49. @kwhufc5769 on May 23, 2024 at 3:40 pm

If I had the finances I would of invested about a 5 years ago. For some it may be worth it but for some it may be too late for a retirement plan

  50. @petersmith6974 on May 23, 2024 at 3:42 pm

Uh huh. Canada legalised it 5 yrs ago. However most folk who got from dealers if they couldn’t grow their own still go to their dealers.Legal pot is more expensive and not as good. Many times batches have had to be recalled and grows scrapped due to mould and pesticides found on that product.
