420 Day highlights need for cannabis industry policy changes in Canada

It’s April 20, also known as 420, or World Cannabis Day. Across our region, people are marking cannabis culture’s high holiday by visiting pot stores to stock up on supplies.

But, experts say there’s still much that needs to change to keep the industry safe and sustainable.

The origins of the celebrations are cloudy, but it came to symbolize calls for legalization. Here in Canada, that battle was hard-won in 2018, but advocates say the fight’s far from over.

Ppl need to grow their own. store bought, mass produced is GARBAGE

  23. @SPitt-gq9xc on June 27, 2024 at 6:22 pm

the black market should have been folded into things from the very beginning. The majority of people trust those who have been growing for decades VS the government growing facilities where sometimes all that was required of an employee was to read a book for 2hrs. In B.C, if you don’t own your own home, you have to ask your landlord’s permission to consume cannabis. Disabled people will never be able to afford their own homes & have to ask their landlord’s permission to consume cannabis medicinally. What other medication do you have to ask your landlord’s permission to use? By removing all cannabis consumption lounges, it left cannabis users who can’t consume at home, having to consume outdoors instead. With limited places to sit, because cities don’t want homeless people sleeping on benches, it makes it challenging for those who are disabled to consume cannabis outdoors. Now, some cities are banning outdoor cannabis consumption in certain areas, once again discriminating against those who are disabled.

    Hey, that’s me! 💚🌲🔥💨

  28. @deanfelker3854 on June 27, 2024 at 6:31 pm

If i pay $36 a ounce does that mean $28 goes to tax and only $8 goes to the farm? That’s pitiful for the growers😢

  29. @chrishince8947 on June 27, 2024 at 6:31 pm

    Tax makes it taste bad!

  30. @Tjd1982 on June 27, 2024 at 6:32 pm

My dealer is still cheaper, has better quality, calls me up when he has sweet stuff, smokes me a testor, delivers, and opens 24/7.

The best part is I don’t have to hear some guy whose only personality trait is "I smoke cheeba," trying to upsell me at the store.

  31. @darthdaddy6983 on June 27, 2024 at 6:33 pm

I only buy from the natives , FJT

  32. @Bergamot88 on June 27, 2024 at 6:35 pm

As yes 420 day… serves as a good reminder of when everybody sold out the country for legal weed

  33. @yougoof on June 27, 2024 at 6:37 pm

The weed is bunk and burns black.

  34. @michaelperry49 on June 27, 2024 at 6:37 pm

Native shops have better selection than governemnt shops here in Nova Scotia

  35. @WW-qc6hc on June 27, 2024 at 6:44 pm

And the legal products have chemicals put in them. Maybe to stop burning if you pass out. But this product is always harsh. Grow your own just like food.

  36. @levicnall on June 27, 2024 at 6:46 pm

    Puff puff pass

  37. @johnwattdotca on June 27, 2024 at 6:46 pm

Humanity doesn’t need a new legal drug setting precedents about distributing drugs as everything from edibles to drinkables.

  38. @jasonsamms6661 on June 27, 2024 at 6:47 pm

I’ve never once had a good experience buying government weed. It’s all trash unless you want to spend well over 200 for an ounce. I’ll stick with the black market.

  39. @rulesR4foolz on June 27, 2024 at 6:48 pm

the entire cannabis act needs to be rewritten. allow us to grow twice as many plants, even though we still do, let us do it legally.

the max ml in edibles needs to be raised to 1000mg for a pack.

better packaging, should all be biodegradable, and more minimal.

we need indoor smoking cafe’s like in Amsterdam. it’s fun to hotbox inside with strangers.

  40. @brandonatkins1593 on June 27, 2024 at 6:49 pm

That’s bs I want some of that jet fuel or wedding cake lol

  41. @ianmillar7785 on June 27, 2024 at 6:49 pm

Increase on thc to edibles would be great and with lower taxes I could see more people buying from a store than elsewhere

  48. @barthalomeowthegreat8470 on June 27, 2024 at 6:55 pm

If this is what caused trudeau to be in power, perhaps we should reverse the decision and ban it once again

  49. @nyak5969 on June 27, 2024 at 6:55 pm

Edibles are a complete joke, and storefronts are selling products 6+ months old and ignoring package dates. And yes cannabis cost 3 dollars a gram for consumers not 10 😂

  50. @Egzoset on June 27, 2024 at 6:55 pm

So many half-truth$ and lie$-by-omi$$ion everywhere. Take the water in 28 g sealed bags, i calculated the tax actually also applies on water sold 221 times the cost of bottled water… What for?? Or "concentrate" oils prove some ~33000 % more expensive simply because it’s cannabis instead of canola. Etc., etc.

Ever heard of our huge Pest Control Products catalog? Now try comprehend the implications from an absence of combinatorial C(n, r) restrictions amplified by a concept of NON-DETECTION while myclobutanil was just BANNED previously – reminding the customers how twisted iat actually is, considering our own favourite consumption method turns it into hydrogen cyanide (HCN), better know as « Zyklon-B » in extermination camps: a Level-3 item of the Chemical Weapons Convention… No wonder the « LPs » discussed using it for sick client$ and the news only reached us between Christass and new Year’s Eve! Etc., etc. The pile of abuse is so huge it would shame the average "criminal" who used to be no more than a talented green-thumb gardener.
