Tough sh-t , you’re in another country under their laws
Japan don’t play on Marijuana. Addto the fact he’s US working over there, most likely military or DOD,and they won’t tread lightly on punishment. Not agreeing with it,but you weigh the options of getting caught and decide if it’s worth it.

The Western world is very lax towards drugs compared to the Middle East and Asia. Asia learned a long time ago the dangers of legalizing drugs. Their laws concerning drugs can land you serious time, sometimes even life for the most minor possessions.
