5 Hidden Risks of Investing in Cannabis Stocks | Trade to Black

On our latest Trade To Black Podcast, host Shadd Dales breaks down the five hidden risks of investing in cannabis stocks.

While the cannabis industry presents exciting opportunities, investors must consider the ongoing uncertainty surrounding marijuana rescheduling, regulatory hurdles, and the lack of access to safe banking.

Federal uncertainty continues to impact the industry, with Congress struggling to pass essential banking reform that could bring legitimacy to cannabis-related businesses. Meanwhile, Wall Street remains hesitant, limiting institutional investment and contributing to market volatility.

Oversaturation has led to price crashes in certain markets, while regulatory red tape drains company profits. Without major legislative changes, cannabis firms may struggle with liquidity, taxation, and expansion strategies.

If you’re investing in cannabis stocks, understanding these risks is essential to building a solid portfolio.

Nice summary, Shadd. We appreciate what you do for this ever-changing market. I believe one of the greatest risks to the cannabis market is hemp, specifically hemp-derived cannabinoids. As you know, the Farm Bill of 2018 has allowed for direct cannabis (THC) competitors to exist in a "quasi-legal" market, unregulated and untested. Distribution of HDD9-infused products at gas stations and convenience stores is having a tremendous deleterious effect on the highly regulated cannabis producers and retailers. Maybe this is included in your point #1: federal uncertainty?

Thanks for putting us on to Coach Mary Sarres Nelson in one of your videos. I started with just $2,500 a few months ago and now I’ve crossed $9K. Nothing crazy—just steady flips and clear signals. Honestly, I was tired of watching other people win while I stayed stuck. This was the switch I needed.
