Should the UK Legalize Cannabis? Exploring the Controversy! | Trade to Black

On our latest Trade To Black podcast, host Shadd Dales explores one of the most pressing questions in international cannabis reform: Should the UK legalize cannabis? As the global cannabis industry continues to evolve—with countries like Germany embracing adult-use reform—the United Kingdom remains in a legal grey zone.

In this episode, Shadd breaks down the current state of cannabis policy in the UK, the growing public support for legalization, and the economic potential of a regulated cannabis market. Despite being one of the largest exporters of medical cannabis globally, access for British patients remains limited. The episode also dives into the concerns raised by health officials, the role of law enforcement, and how UK policymakers compare to their counterparts across Europe and North America.

Whether you’re a cannabis investor, policy analyst, or advocate for cannabis reform, this episode offers a balanced and timely look at one of the most controversial topics in the cannabis space.

  16. @grem007uk on August 27, 2025 at 3:40 pm

cannabis is a racket ran by our government all our former drugs ministers have managed to give their spouses a licence to grow it for medical use so have a vested interest in keeping it illegal for us and there for eliminating any competition by use of our now corrupt police farce

  17. @SeanPowellonemanband on August 27, 2025 at 3:41 pm

Yes to safe guard users. People could tamper with product spray stuff to add weight and god knows what else.

  18. @rlf1989 on August 27, 2025 at 3:41 pm

I hope they legalize it simply for convenience but I’ll continue smoking it regardless, like I have been doing for the past 20 years.

Please uk legalise shiva juice , so that 13 year old kids dont have to stab each other to death in its cause .

  24. @foxtailhxc on August 27, 2025 at 3:47 pm

Don’t legalise it the government will make less money if this happens, only they should sell it to make profits. Also there would be less crime this is not good for paying our judges and lawyers. Most drug dealers will be straight out of business. This is not good for the government 😂😂😂

  25. @chrisohara248 on August 27, 2025 at 3:48 pm

    Yes

  26. @marcuskrieger9387 on August 27, 2025 at 3:48 pm

  27. @ronniefreedom1918 on August 27, 2025 at 3:52 pm

Anything that grows naturally is a gift from God and no man has the right to stop its use. It is one of the most healing plants on the face of this planet which is I believe one of the main reasons for the UK banning it, the NHS can’t have people healing themselves without making a ton of cash out of it!

  28. @stevewillis8317 on August 27, 2025 at 3:55 pm

If the UK government were to enjoy the increased tax income from legalizing cannabis; then maybe their political opponents, wouldn’t have enjoyed seeing the chancellor in tears yesterday.

  29. @ionelmarculescu4554 on August 27, 2025 at 3:56 pm

they will go to war first😊

  30. @Bobby-t2n on August 27, 2025 at 3:59 pm

It’s only illegal because the USA told them it was.

  31. @brianwalther6491 on August 27, 2025 at 4:01 pm

Legalize it everywhere it’s absurd that a plant is illegal. There are other plants that are actually deadly and no one ever thinks about regulating them…. Kinda strapping on a seatbelt, whoever needed one except for when they’re pulled over and the authorities want extra money. If there’s heavy traffic on the road, then slow down but honestly speed limits are OK but not needed for sensible individuals.

  32. @soton5teve on August 27, 2025 at 4:01 pm

Next government in 2029 is likely to be Labour, Lib Dem, Green, coalition.

  33. @WDYMVenumB on August 27, 2025 at 4:02 pm

Its been legal since 2018 here in UK under medical prescription

  34. @misterknite on August 27, 2025 at 4:02 pm

As a Canadian you Brits gotta get your heads outta your asses on this one. Just look at us and look at the United States. Guess which one of us has nationwide legal weed? Hint: it’s not the one that’s turning into a fascist dictatorship of nazis.

  35. @jayritz5876 on August 27, 2025 at 4:07 pm

Make it legal and tax for systems that need money that the people really need and with the reduction in money into the legal system it can be put into sectors in its department that need it as well like new equipment and such.

  36. @RobertBrown-u7o on August 27, 2025 at 4:07 pm

The authorities could stop drugs in society if they wanted to,si may as well kegalise it,it will make people insane but they are already,it would cut diwn on hard drugs as if youve been to holland natural weed there us very very strong two joints u was kaughing fir iver a gour and i dont kniw what i was laughing about everything was funny, three joints i had to walk around with hands in pocket for eight hours,i never smoked again in next two weeks,a smoke once a year at just obe hoint would be enough, its stronger rhan cocaine according to lits if oeople much stronger, its si strong you dont want to do again,so e will do always but they xan orobably function on it without the sude effects, but if nationalist oarty git in,then we would stop drugs fir goid, vut as it atands kefalise ur,uts better than criminals getting rheir naxhine funa etc

  37. @StonedUnicornPersonManThing on August 27, 2025 at 4:07 pm

UK has had medical cannabis since 2018 if I’m remembering correctly. The reason you don’t hear more about it is cause its private. You can’t get it on the NHS, which is how majority of the country gets their medication and those that do go and get medical find out, it can get really expensive just to get registered. Then you have the other expenses on top. Yeah, the bud may be cheaper, but its usually pretty low quality to what other countries use for medical cannabis. So you’ll find most UK smokers will stick to getting their bud from their local guy around the corner. Instead of having to travel hours (depending on locations) and spending what could get you a ounce or two from the street on a mere few grams for the month.

Personally speaking it’s what keeps me from going medical. Too many hoops, far too stressful. Expenses can add up. Subpar quality bud.

  38. @dean5195 on August 27, 2025 at 4:08 pm

Yes who are they to tell us what to do anyway.

  39. @petersmith2522 on August 27, 2025 at 4:10 pm

We shouldnt still be just debating this it should be legal its actually cruel that its not legal bad for the population who have to smoke some terrible horrible stuff from the illegal market

  40. @iidjkg on August 27, 2025 at 4:11 pm

The horrible smell alone should be a good enough reason for it to remain illegal.

  41. @gallantscotland8590 on August 27, 2025 at 4:12 pm

The snp tried to fully legalize it but of course the absolutely fair union government rejected it independence now ALBA gu brath

  42. @Jack_2004 on August 27, 2025 at 4:13 pm

Here in Germany its legal I take it cause it helps with my mental health alot more than any prescription drug ever could, but yes i agree it should be made legal in the UK

  43. @carlosbooovy1174 on August 27, 2025 at 4:14 pm

    Yes it should,but it won’t,ever!
Who cares anyway..Just grow it or buy it ,fk the law 👍

  44. @gabrielcalderon3048 on August 27, 2025 at 4:14 pm

Yes it should be legal everywhere

  45. @mallong7532 on August 27, 2025 at 4:14 pm

It’s legal for GM to grow and sell tons, so why not the same for all.

  46. @JB-yo1fo on August 27, 2025 at 4:15 pm
