Why Canadian Cannabis Companies Are Dominating Germany’s Medical Market | TDR Podcast

On this episode of the Trade To Black podcast, host Shadd Dales explores how Canadian producers like Village Farms (VFF), Aurora Cannabis (ACB), and Tilray (TLRY) are quietly leading the charge in Europe’s largest medical cannabis market.

While Canada’s domestic market remains saturated and cost-constrained, these LPs are leveraging Germany’s pharmacy-driven system, where EU-GMP compliance, insurance reimbursement, and regulated supply chains create stronger pricing power and real growth potential.

Village Farms, widely seen as the most efficient operator in the space, continues to expand its international footprint. Aurora, meanwhile, is doubling down on its medical strategy in Europe. Tilray still holds significant volume in the German market, but competition is heating up.

Germany’s recent cannabis reform is starting to shift real momentum toward imports — and Canadian players are positioned to benefit from first-mover regulatory status.

Takeaway: Canadian cannabis isn’t fading — it’s going global. And Germany may be the first chapter of the next growth cycle.

Aurora’s turnaround has been amazing. Will be watching ACB’s earnings next week. Not sure why you never have them on the show?

Canada is in a race against time as domestic production ramps up in Germany, and eventually U.S. exports will become legal (someday!). There will always be demand for Canadian cannabis in Germany and beyond, but the winds of change challenging Canada’s dominance are picking up.

Mr Dales, I’m proud to be a subscriber and utterly disappointed at the ratio of viewers/subscribers! Your content is 1st rate. Although not an investor myself, I rarely miss an episode. Dont be discouraged by the numbers, your professionalism and articulation of the information is compelling. Thanks again for all you do, Eric Geerken.

You mentioned Tilray twice. Anthony Varrell isn’t going to like that very much. If you guys talked about Tilray more often, you’d reach 100K subscribers much faster.

  18. @micklockwood9953 on August 29, 2025 at 4:17 pm

you dont think much about Curaleaf, you didnt mention they are 12 countrys international

  19. @DatenschutzMartinProch on August 29, 2025 at 4:37 pm

  20. @fashiondee on August 29, 2025 at 4:38 pm

Then how come you didnt mention any Canadian LPs on your top stock list. Is there a bias there?

  21. @IslandGeorge on August 29, 2025 at 4:40 pm

I have been buying shares of Avant Brands the past few years. Good company, very undervalued like most of them. Canada really needs to work on their excise tax. Great show Shadd.

I could try some Germany hemp, just for research purposes only.
